I had a stretch and sweep today does anyone know the chances of it workin and i go into labour..?
With DD i had a S&S on the thursday and started pre-labour on the sunday....she was born the following Wednesday.
With DS I had one on the thursday and then the saturday and I was induced on the Tuesday with a firm closed cervix, so it had done nothing.
I think for some it works, others it doesn't. No guarantees.

Hi, My aunty had a one and the next day her little girl was born. With my DD the doc was going to give me one but he did a internal and i was already 3cms and thought i didnt need one and i would go that weekend. :( well i ended up being induced. I hope it works for you though :) So keep us posted with your progress :)

i had one the day before my induction.... then another with gel too... with the last one it happened almost immediately... about 5mins after i needed to "release my bowels" so i knew it was happening:o

I'm 39 + 5 and really struggling. I was hoping I could ask for a stretch and sweep at my next OB appointment, does anyone know if I'll get my request?

Hi
I had a S&S at my Ob appointment at 9.00am, had a show around lunchtime and started getting mild contractions, awoke with full on contractions at 1.00am the next day and my little girl was born at 4.20am.
You harm in asking if you ob would do one I dont seem why not. I was 38weeks pregnant and he did it.
Good luck

I had one at 41 weeks, but I was happy to keep going as long as my baby girl needed until she was ready to be born. I just wanted to avoid an induction (although may have refused to be induced anyway). I don't know if the S&S worked- she was born 3 days later after 2 days of pre-labour. A great gentle build-up to a swift labour and birth  If the S&S contributed to that, then great! But I get the feeling she came because she was ready, and if I had really had intervention to hurry her up, (gel, drip, membranes ruptured etc) I couldn't then expect such a great birth. The best births are generally when the baby is ready to be born, not before. I didn't see the s&S as an intrusive way of inducing birth, but a way to avoid being rushed along in hospital (no birth centres etc out here).
