Hello,
Our son Charlie is just over 3 months old and virtually since day one he has had a feed at 6.30pm at night and in bed by 7.00pm. At 10.30pm, we feed him again (even though he never wakes up at this time) and put him straight back to bed. He then sleeps through to 7 or 8am.
Based on the people we've asked, it appears to be 50/50 on whether or not to continue this. (Health nurse says if he doesn't wake by himself don't feed him, paediatrician says it's a good idea).
We only started doing it because it was in the routine we were following (one of Tizzie Hall's) and it appears to be working for us. I am just wondering if anyone else does it and/or what might happen if we removed it.

My bub is 4 months & very irregular with her feeds & I haven't tried to push a routine yet. If she has an early feed, usually about 6pm & goes to sleep after, she sometimes won't wake again so I will feed her at about 11pm & put her back down. She doesn't usually wake up when I do this, but if she does, she is relaxed enough to go straight back to sleep when I put her back down. She will then sleep through until at least 8am. If I don't feed her sometime after 9pm, she will wake at 3am for a feed. I just don't want to have to do that any more if I don't have to!

Saying that, her last feed was at 6:30pm last night, & I didn't wake her for the dreamfeed & I still had to wake her at 9am this morning to go out.

I don't know if I have really been any help here, but to answer your questions, yes, I give a dreamfeed if I think it is necessary, I can't really say what will happen if you cut out this feed. He may wake up in the early hours of the morning.
I say, that if it is working for you, don't change a thing. When he gets older, you could try to skip the last feed or maybe just try it now & see what happens. If you or bubs don't like the change, carry on with what you were doing in the first place. You never know until you try!
Good luck!

I use a roll over feed at about 10pm...and find he sleeps till 7am. My son is 3 and 1/2 months old.

You could try slowly bringing the feed back by 15 minutes till you get to a earlier time ( ie. 9pm). We have tried this....only just this week.

We've found that we need to drop 15 minutes for three days in a row. For example..feed at 9:45pm for 3 days....see how he goes and then try 9:30pm for the next three days.

We are down to about 9pm. Seems to be going ok.

Just a suggestion.....if you drop it back by 15 min incriments...you will see whether or not he'll make it to your morning feed...if he doesn't...he's not ready.

Feel free to pm if you would like to talk more.

Hi,

My DS is 4 and a half months and bottle fed from about day 4. We have never given him a dream feed. If he woke at night, we fed him otherwise we let him sleep. He pretty much slept through from about 3 weeks. Since he has been on 5 feeds a day he has a bottle at 6am, 9am, 12 noon, 3pm and 6pm which I just give him unless he is asleep.

Have to agree with Len.If bubs is asleep, i don't touch him. He has slept thru from 8 weeks ,6-6. Why wake a sleeping baby, sorry folks don't understand.

You feed your DS the same way I feed DD - have been since she slept through the night - will continue indefinatly.

I have done the dreamfeed since I can remember and I loove Tizzie Hall's and have purchased heaps from her website.

I am going to continue the dreamfeed till Brandon is on solids 'I THINK'as I find if I cut out that feed he won't be getting the correct amount of milk ( although he has been a piggy lately... heehee )

In the Gina Ford book 'The Contented little Baby " she also does the 10.30 feed and says once your bub is sleeping though soundly to 7am, bring the 10.30 feed back to 10.15pm then 10pm the 9.45 then 9.30pm then 9pm etc and give less milk so you wean then off the dreamfeed.

Pm me if you want more info

I've always done a dreamfeed until this week. If he woke up for the feed then he would flat out refuse any food, if he was still asleep then he would take half a bottle if I was lucky. So I tried the other night without it - he didn't wake for it so I've let it go. I guess they'll let you know when it's the right time to change stuff.
