Troy is 4wks old and has already dropped ALL of his daytime naps.

I am not kidding, for the last week, he has had maybe 90mins sleep a day between 5:30am and 8-9pm at night. It is in about 10mins bursts, 30 tops.

He is still awake now and he woke at about 5:30 this morning (I don't know for sure as DH got up for him), and it's 11:20 and he is still awake. If he was happy, I wouldn't care, but he isn't.

I have tried feeding him, changing him, patting, rocking, wrapping, the dummy, putting him in the laundry with the dryer going. He came shopping before and he slept then, but that was only 5mins.

DH doesn't get it when I say I need for him to sleep. He thinks it is better as it means he will sleep at night. Yeah, he will, but it takes me 2hrs to get him to sleep.
I tell him he will get overtired, but he doesn't believe in the term overtired, he thinks that if they are tired, they will sleep. :banghead:
According to a book I have, 4wk old babies are supposed to be awake 9hrs in a day, but that doesn't mean they have to do it in one fricking stretch like this boy does. Even Matthew isn't awake for that long in one go.

It's so hard.......I can't get anything done because I am constantly trying to get him to sleep or keep him happy. It also doesn't help when an almost 3yr old is patting him and kissing him constantly (I have him out here in the pram as it is freezing in his bedroom).

So if anyone can think of anything to try that I haven't done already, I'm open for suggestions.

i know ure on water restrictions, but maybe try a warm bath with lavender oil in it? Might relax him:yes: Or you could burn some lavendar oil in a room?

hmmmmmmm have been in a similar situation a few times with my bub, and i think it was worse at that stage (4 weeks), my only advice if you haven't already done.........give him a feed, then just a little bit of low stimulating awake time ie; warm bath/massage or read a book in a low voice. Then buddle him up real well (as u said his room is freezing), put him in his cot even if awake, he may be drowsy. leave him there even if he whinges a bit, only go to pick him up if he turns into a true cry. you may very well find he may just put himself to sleep. This is what I learned to do with my bub and usually always works. Hope you get some relief soon as I know how much an overtired baby sucks!! :hugs:

I use the J&J Bedtime bath with lavender at night, but he is still awake 3hrs later......I'm guessing it isn't strong enough?? I have to go into town tomorrow, I'll grab some oil instead, ta.

(BTW, I saw Rutherglen on tv the other day, looks lovely!!!)

Do you have a baby sling or carrier? Charlotte only ever sleeps for 30 minutes at a time during the day. I found that putting her in the carrier left my hands free to do the things that needed to get done.

I know what you mean about the overtired thing. I hate trying to put her to sleep when she is overtired, it is a battle!!!!

Hope this helps.

Yep, I have a babygear pouch, he will sleep in it, but it kills my back if i have him in it while doing other things. If I'm out and about, he is fine in there for hours, I don't notice that he is there, but trying to do stuff around the house kills my back.
But I do it when I am desperate enough.

I just wish he would self settle. My other 3 did by his age and were in a routine, but I am having no luck with him at all.

He fell asleep during his bottle before, by the time I got him into his cot, he was wide awake. I had him wrapped and he had his dummy, but less than 2mins later he was screaming the house down.

6hrs he has been awake for and I know he wont sleep until at elast 8 or 9 tonight. :banghead:

Hey, he sounds a lot like my little one! For the last week he has been a very demanding little soul all day, crying the moment he is put down.
I could only get him to settle in the HugaBub, which is not ideal I agree!
On Sunday I relented and bought him a dummy (actually a few different ones, to trial) which seems to be doing wonders! For the first time in an age I can actually lie him down awake! I do need to be there for quite a while making sure it doesn't fall out, but then he goes in to deep sleep.

I hope it gets better mate! :hugs:

Thanks, I hope it gets better for you too.

He has been asleep for 10mins now.........I'm not holding my breath that it will be a long nap though.

Weird really, he used to sleep for 6-7hrs at a time during the day.

Have you got a sling?
I know Aussie used to bomb out when I'd pop him in it and walk around.

Yep, he sleeps in there (wakes when I put him down of course), but it kills my back when I'm trying to do stuff around the house.

He has been asleep for 25mins now. :smiliedance: He must know I'm talking about his bad habits.

wish mine would take a dummy, she just doesnt like it, if I perservere, she will have a suck, and fall asleep instantly, but it means holding it in her mouth for ages before she takes it.
