Why wide velcro?

I was wondering if anyone knows why most MCN's use wider velcro?
I've made a few with the normal width velcro, and some with the wide and TBH I prefer the normal velcro I think - seems like it would be harder for bub to undo as well...

Why do they use the wide velcro? Do you think it's better?

I don't have any with velcro, but I suspect they'd use the wider velcro as there is more to grip helping it to stay on better???

I like to use the wider velcro (for our home made mcn) as it is less likely to roll & tends to sit better & grip better.

definately for the grip, especially when they get a bit battered and bits of fluff etc stuck in there

My bubblebubs has the narrower velcro - it works really well :thumbsup:

I made a couple of fleece nappies with thinner velcro and to be honest, they went all curly and don't stay stuck all the way to the corners, if that makes sense. I don't like it maybe you can get it to sit better.

It depends how wide, I can't find velcro that's 1.5 inches in real life, only 1 or 2 inches. So If I'm not organised and order online then I have to cut down the 2" or 40 mm down to 1.5. I find this is the best width for bigger bubs (which mine are), but if I were making for newborns or smaller bubs then I'd do 1" or smaller velcro :yes:

Hmmm well I am making some nappies for my nephew when he is born, they will only be for about 0-9 months I think, so I think the smaller velcro should be fine on him then :yes:
It's 25mm wide, so not that small anyhow.
Myabe when I make the next batch for him, when he grows out of the smaller size, I should use the wide velcro :detective:

personally i find the 50mm stuff to be too wide on anything except a large/XL nappy, but then I prefer 'hipster' nappies, so the really wide velcro means that it doesn't sit into that groove under their tummy properly. (JMNSHO)
