Either the regular terry or the flannalette, does anyone here use them?
Would you recommend them or are they no-good?
Or would i be better off just geting the old fashioned flats?
Not wanting to go online for nappies as this way I can just pick up a couple at a time cause they're less than $5 each :)
Oh & one more thing, how often do i need to change cloth nappies as opposed to disposables?
Thanks

No-body :(
Cant anyone answer any of my questions, please
RB
RB, I'm glad you asked because I was going to ask the same question!
I picked up a Fluffies (I think) fitted terry nappy from K-mart because it was $6 and I figured it was worth a try. I just have it in my pile of other nappies (MIL has picked up a couple for me and I have ordered some online) and will try it out when bubs comes.
My cynical mind is thinking if it is so cheap there must be something wrong with it. I guess it can't hurt to pick one up and try it on MJ!

I haven't used them, but was told that the wadding in the crotch is actually dacron - which won't absorb anything much.
Perhaps someone can confirm this? Maybe the dacron component is listed on the package?
sorry RB - I haven't used that type of fitted ...
I have bought some fitted nappies for Jack - but only two of them fit him at the moment ... so I am using mostly terry flats (folded) ..
I change Jack whenever he is wet (which is CONSTANTLY at the moment!!) - I find that when we go out and use sposies.. he needs changing just as much... I hate leaving a wet nappy on .. even if it isn't full to capacity though... I should imagine that the change times are about the same (although I do know of a few mummies who leave nappies on a bit too long - to get their moneies worth :( (I would hate to have a wet or dirty bum myself...)
xxx
Aardvark, that's what I was worried about... I wasn't sure what was actually inside that middle padded bit - nothing listed on the packet from what I can remember (I've thrown it out now).
I figure you don't have to buy too many dodgy nappies for $6 to make it well worth spending $20 on a good one! (or sticking to plain old reliable terry flats). ;)

The packaging says "super absorbant liner" & "cotton outer and polyester inner have excellent breathing qualities" :)
Oh & what fold for flats do you recommend for a tiny bum :p We're talking a bum that still has room in a 000 ;)

I always used the chinese fold for my girls. It fit them from birth through to toilet training with a flannelette nappy.

Is Flanalette more or less absorbent than terry towling? And would it be a bit smaller?
Oh and one more thing, where do i get flanalette nappies?
Thanks

Oh I can answer your question about what these nappies are like. I would say please do not waste your money on them they are useless, to begin with they really don't stay done up at all! If you are still desperate to try them I have some here that I would be more than willing to send to you if you pay the postage but then again I wouldn't waste my money on the postage!
For a little little bum I would use myself probably the zappy nappies or the eenee nappies which I found to be brilliant for newborns.

Flannelette is less bulky than terry toweling, so it will fit under the clothes better, even though I think the nappies actually measure slightly larger. Last I knew, Target still sold the flannelette nappies in a pack of a dozen, they areBig Softees brand, and in a predominantly red pack.
I've never used terry toweling nappies - I took my grandmother shopping for all my baby stuff with #1, and just bought what she suggested, which was flannelette nappies among other things. I'm glad I followed her advice, the things she suggested were all much better than what the shop assistants were advising me to buy, and her suggestions for quantities and sizes were spot on, too.
I just bought a pack of 6 Target brand "fleecy nappies" (they look like flannelette to me).
As for folds, I can't say I've tried any, but I do hear the Jo Fold get raved about on these forums and it's super easy. I'm thinking it would be very easy to do smaller for a little bum by folding over the middle bit (you'll understand when you see it) - anyone who has actually tried it, do correct me if I'm wrong!!
If you do a google on Jo Fold you'll find it - I believe it's The Nappy Lady who has it on her site.

Thankyou muchly Aardvark :D I'll have a look in target for the flannalette flats in the next couple of days.
And thanks Oscar's mum too :D MJ is a pain undoing her disposables when she's in dresses already so i've always got little pants on her, or pretty pilchers. That should help them stay done up right?
Thanks for the links too but unfortunately funds will not allow me to buy them at this time :( If I would have known about them when i was pg then i would have gotten them instead of stocking up on disposables.
Thanks again

I think that the Jo Fold is great with a little alteration I am still using that fold on my 10 month old!
My favourite fold though which DS is too big for is the chinese fold, it is very simple and great for containing those runny breastfed poos!http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/Advice/Instructions.asp?InstructionID=2&index=4

Ok, well i've been using terry flats for a day & so far its not as hard as i thought. Though I must admit I have to re-learn how to hold MJ. Her bum is soo big & she weighs so much more :p I'm using the Origami/chinese/butterfly fold & so far so good.
Also when I was out i purchased a 6pack of Flannalette flats at Kmart as it was 15% off store wide so only cost me $9.35. They are Fluffies brand - is that ok?
Also the wool pilchers people think of, are the the Fluffies Baby Pilchers ones also? They say that they are made from machine washable acrylic?
Thanks so much for all your help with this, now just have to re-train DH on putting on a nappy :p
RB
RB, I heard some people on another forum say they love the Fluffies wool covers but apparently are hard to come by these days. If it's the same ones, lots of mums swear by them.

I hope these are the right ones then. If they are i'll go back up tomorrow & layby a bunch. They look like wool, they just dont say that they are wool IYKWIM
I just wish i knew about the prefolds when i was pregnant. Oh well, i know IF (thats a BIG if) there is a next time ;)
Thanks

Im still currently trying to convince my partner that its a good idea to swap but mind you i wanna use those other ones a few mummies have shown me on here expensive versions of the fluffies !!! Anyways will be writing down all the costs to set us up & then hopefully he will se it saves us in the long run !!!!
I think he is just worried about how he will cope with them heheheheheh :p

They are not wool, they are synthetic, but they were really good when we used them for DD#1 and DD#2.
I've been looking for them for baby #3, and have not found them anywhere. Where did you see them????
The only problem I had with them is they are bulky, and most chilcren's clothes these days don't have much of a nappy allowance - I think it is a conspiracy to further encourage the use of disposables.

K-mart sells the ones you are talking about Aardvark.

Kmart near me only has plastic pants, not the fluffies covers - nor anything else worthwhile by way of nappy covers for that matter.
The supermarkets used to have them, now they only have the Fluffies Booties.

Thanks for your input Oscar's mum - I am doing the research on cloth nappies now and am completely overwhelmed by the choices out there - the eenee nappies look pretty good - reasonably expensive - but I'm happy to pay it if they are worth it!!
did you use their eenee snibb thingy with small pads for Oscar? How many did you buy and at what point did he grow out of those and into their nappy pant thingy's.
did you use any other brands
or has anyone else tried others and found them good / bad or otherwise.
The 'bubbaJ' ones look quite good as well but I don't want to go buy just one or two of each type just to find one is a clear winner!!
Cheers

Im getting some pocket nappies from Sandra's stuffables when she reopens soon ! & ive also been told to try Greens nappies so will purchase a few of those probably only 2 to start with to see how they work & then ive purchased a pocket nappy off ebay to see how that goes got it for a bargain $15 & 2 hemp boosters that fold up for extra absorbtion for $5 each. I think im going to become addicted to buying them also :o
They are all just so cute though !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :D

I'm with Oscar's mum. I have 6 fluffies that I bought when DS#1 came along 7 years ago. They are pretty useless. The sides tend to leak and the velcro isn't very sticky. The worst part is drying them. They take sooo long to dry due to the wadding.
I'm glad I only bought one of them! I had a feeling being so cheap it wouldn't be any good.
Just as a matter of interest, when I was putting in my order for Tots Bots yesterday (www.cleverpants.com.au) the lady there asked me what else I had and when I said I have 3 x Baby Beehinds (one size fits all) she said "Oh EVERYONE loves those!" so I thought that was good feedback, given they are her competition! :)

thanks for the update Cosmic
I checked out the clever pants website and noticed they have a 'babytrekker' sling advertised.
Has anyone used one of these? Or maybe the 'hugabub' which I have heard some nice reviews about but 'choice' didn't particularly like it? A friend is going to give me her Baby Bjorn (she can't carry her 8 month old in it anymore) but I was interested to read on the babytrekker site that older babies can be carried!?
more suggestions please!!!:)

i used the fluffie towelling fitted nappies for daycare and found they were pretty good if teamed with a set of pilchers. the towelling ones soak up more than the flannellette ones.
however for simple ease of use i would recommend the eenie weenees as they are easy to wash, look nice and you can either use disposable inserts in them or use folded up nappies.:) :)

Hi Trish,
I've ordered 4 x size 1's in the Tots Bots (rainbow bots actually - cute colours :p) and a couple of strawberry PUL covers. :) I didn't want to stock up too much on size 1's because bub will grow out of them but if they are a really good fit I might get some more. Tots Bots are supposed to be good for fitting a range of baby's body shapes and quite a neat fit - not too bulky.
Apparently baby's can fit into size 1's up to around 8mths so if that's the case it might be worth getting some more - but I might not need them since I have also got some Baby Beehinds and Fuzzibunz.
I have also ordered a size 2 which can be used for newborns just by folding the front down - just a bit bulkier that's all, but obviously will fit bub for a lot longer.
At her suggestion (can't remember the lady's name) I chose one of the Fluffles in size 2 just to try it out. Not a natural fabric which might put some people off but it's supposed to be better than standard Tots for some reason (??) so I thought I'd give it a whirl. :)
PS. Deanbean I'm not a sling/carrier expert but I hear the Ergo carrier is absolutely fantastic and can also be used as a sling/pouch thing for littlies. I'd check it out before you buy anything else. And for standard slings, apparently hotslings are very good. You can see both (and a whole lot more!) at www.carryingaway.com. :)
I've got a BabyTrekker and loved it. I used it continuously for the first 12mths without a problem. It adjusted to fit DS well at each stage and was just as comfy for me or DH to wear. The shoulder straps distribute the weight well over both shoulders and the advantage it has over the BabyBojrn is the waist strap. I've used a BB when DS was just a wee bub and it was horrid compared to the BabyTrekker. The other handy thing is that I could just wash it in our frontloader when it got a bit grotty and then I would line dry it.
A frined has an Ergo is and is very happy with it. Looks comfy to use and is less bulky than a BT but only marginally.

I have ordered 2 of the bamboozles to give them a try.....they look great. I also ordered 2 tots bots and 2 fluffles...I figure I can try them all and see what I like the best. I can't wait for the package to arrive so I can check them out! Sad huh!:D
I am also getting on the Green Bums site now for a look thanks to the other thread......if I get any of those though they will have to wait until next payday.:(
