Hello

Can someone please tell me approx how much a 5 month old drinks?

I'm going out for a night on the 23rd o may and will be away from bub for about 10 hours i don't want to give her formula as i've given her breastmilk from day 1 and would really rather express milk for her while i'm gone. Also does anyone know where i can buy the breastmilk ice cube trays? i've looked everywhere and can't seem to find any.

Thanks:D

How many feeds would she normally have in that time? If it were me, for a baby that age, I'd like to leave the carer a good 200mls per feed... better too much than not enough

There is some way to work out how much they need - (some amount I can't remember) multiplied by their weight, divided by their age in months? Something like that. (What a good help I am :p)

Ice cube trays - I've not frozen EBM in ice cube trays - but I think Tupperware sells trays with lids? Otherwise from the chemist you can get specific breastmilk bags.

A tip for expressing - while she's feeding on one side, express from the other. And if you're expressing when she's asleep, have a newborn photo of her to look at, and maybe even read through your birth story (if you've written it down) and look through a photo album of those first few precious weeks. It really does get the milk flowing

Oh and *seethes with jealousy* I want a night out! You're so lucky!!!

Yes the Queen is quite right. The CHN should be able to help you work it out exact

maybe a call to ABA (Australian Breastfeeding Association) would help, they would know how much to express for sure
