............ ????
What's the one thing you would warn people against buying?
For me it was the Kia Carnival. We hired one and it was.. ****! (sorry to anyone who has one and likes it). No power, excessively thirsty on fuel and a single baby seat rendered the back seat totally useless.. so much for being a 7 seater!

Totally agree with you. We had one for a couple of days (test drive from the dealer) and it was a piece of cr*p.
Ended up buying a Toyota Kluger...oh what a feeling!:smiliedance:
babylove nappies
a few of other mums i spoke with said it leaked and they left crystals on the bubs only after a couple of hours...
this is just in my own experience and fyi i've tried over 200 of these so its not just a dud pack
tommee tippee nappy wrapper - i know some people love them but it did zilch to mask any odours and just takes up more space in a room. i'm trying to offload it to preg friends at the moment.
(Generally not mentioning brands)
Disposable nappies! (jmo)
Too much plastic in baby things also. And toys.

Freedom furniture...
we bought Jesse's bed from there and it's the most horribly dangerous thing we've ever bought.
There is nothing on the side of the bed to stop the mattress from sliding off - so if he goes to jump onto his bed (which kids do!) the mattress can literally slide off the base. Also, the slats move. You can go to sit on the end of the bed and end up almost on the floor because the slats have moved up the bed and there's nothing underneath the mattress to support it.
When we called Freedom about it they sent over various people to 'fix' the problem - we didn't bother calling them back after they sent a burly woman armed with velcro one day. Her job was to stick the velcro onto the mattress and the base and attach the two together to stop the mattress from sliding!!!
BTW - this wasn't a cheap bed either.
We were told by a delivery guy 'in the know' that Freedom is renowned for never giving you your money back on an item deemed faulty or not up to scratch. They will send over copious amounts of employees to 'fix' the problem but will never refund your money. He said everyone ends up just forgetting about the problem to stop them coming over.
So a word of warning...
if you buy a furniture item from Freedom make sure that it's exactly what you want/need and that it does what it's meant to do otherwise you'll be up sh*t creek without a paddle!
We can't wait to get rid of this piece of cr*p!

I agree 100%.
As for the Kia I used to work at Vicroads (RTA) and they would come in all the time for an engine change, there was soem fault in a big production of them. I would never ever get one. Bad News!!
babylove, huggies or aldi nappies....

My brother is the manager of a car sale yard and when I was looking for a people mover, he point blank refused to sell me a Kia. He said he felt bad flogging them off to unsuspecting folk and he'd never ever subject his family to the non-stop hassle that is a kia.
And my own "don't buy a..." - I would never buy one of those inferior baby carriers - you know the ones that suspend the baby from their genital area? I'm talking about ones like the baby bjorn etc.

Oh my DH would agree with you there after a major pooplosion!
Okay, here goes:
Disposable nappies
fluffy nappies - please, please, please don't be turned of off MCN (modern cloth nappies) if you've tried these. They should be banned!
NEC HDD recorders: We are on our 3rd replacement and it's crapola. Df works in the audio/visual industry and knows what he's talking about, so NEC have had no qualms in continually replacing the piece of sh!t. Df is now going to demand our money back and get a Pioneer (which is what they use at his work).
The change table we got off of ebay - can't remember what it was called, Aussie Joeys or something like that. Very wobbly and the draw doesn't fit properly. Would have been better of not buying one anyway as we rarely ever used it.
Hmm, can't think of anything else atm
Instant mashed potatoes.

IPODS!!!!
Beware! DH and I got each other one for Christmas last year... JB Hi Fi got us to sign a waver to say we wouldn't bring them back if they broke - to go direct to Apple. Within 2 weeks, both were broken. Try to call the help line and you get stuck in the phone with a man who hardly speaks English, and expects you to be a computer whizz! Nope. Ipods do have a bit of a bad reputation for bunging up. There are other brands that are cheaper that work better. IRiver is one, can't think of the others.

Yep iPods got the award for worst product in regards to them breaking & then needing to have them repaired, replaced was a nightmare.
I agree also with the dont buy those horrible baby carriers that suspend babies by their groins. Not only that but they kill your back too !!!! Get a Hug A Bub or ring sling !!!!
A lot of the stupid so called easily operated baby gates . Pfffft load of cr@p ! We got one because it was meant to be one handed operational. You seriously needed to use two hands, your knees & a hammer to get it to work ! Was a Safety First i do believe !
Stupid sippy cups that say "non-drip" ... Ok fair enough they dont drip they release Niagra Falls !!! Then there are the ones like the Heinz that have a valve to stop them spilling but hey they work because not even i could suck anything out ! We ended up chucking them all out & buying the really cheap $2 ones from the supermarket !

I've had my Ipod for over 3 years - no problems. Love it.
Stay away from
Snugglers nappies
Phillips DVD recorders
Ikea furniture - furniture we bought had chunks out of the corners and bits missing (no we didnt put it together wrong
Peugeot 206 - ours has cost us a fortune
i can usally figure electronic gadgets out fairly quickly but my younger brother got an ipod from a friend and i just for the life of me couldnt figure out the click wheel thingo. then i finally figured it out it wouldnt let me upload songs onto it....it was a pain the rear end. i would never buy an ipod. i would rather spend my money on a normal mp3 player.
and snugglers nappies are the best for us....dont see why so many people dont like them ive had way too many problems with huggies and wonder why people like them nappies. each to their own i guess.

I have that same baby gate. We now use it to keep our dogs oustide..... at least it came in handy for that.
I agree on the ear thermometer - my $12 one under the arm is much more accurate than the $70 in the ear number.
I would say - the "amazing V-slicer" - DH bought me one after watching too much day time TV once - we used it once and it has sat in the cupboard for the last 3 years until I gave it to Vinnies with a pile of stuff. It came with the classic bonus knives - which bent in half - and cost him over $100 - boy have I never let him forget that one!

Must be man thing! DH bought me one of those cyclonic vacuume cleaners from the same place and it is seriously the worst thing i have ever owned. Its not even strong enough to get sultana's off the floor.
DH is banned from daytime tv now!:o

Haha, i second the v-slicer, used it once then the novelty wore off i think it is actually just getting mouldy from sitting on the bench not being used! And yeah, cost me $70 too, waste of money!
I love our ear thermometer! I always do it twice (just to double check the reading JIC but it's never given me a different reading) and it's always accurate (I've done it myself before going to the doctor's to check it and temp has been the same).
I can't think of anything to add though. We usually research things before we buy them so we don't get stuck with duds.

Not wanting to add any controversy...but am I allowed to say that I wouldn't buy MCN's??? It's been ok for others to say they wouldn't buy disposables. Outside of BH, I do not know anyone that uses cloth and it would certainly not fit any of our lifestyles. *ducks because I fear flack may come*

I think that the point is that people are talking about disposables that they have had problems with, whereas it appears that you have never bought an MCN that you have had a problem with. Please don't turn this into a MCN vs cloth thread.

DO NOT buy a Dishlex dishwasher.
Mine is under 12 months old and it sux.
It does not dry the dishes. If I put it on before I go to work, when I get home at night, everything is covered in condensation.
To get any chance of it drying, I need to use the longest pots cycle every time - 123 minutes.
I've had the service man out 3 times to it under warranty, and they claim it is working as designed.
Buy anything else, just don't get a Dishlex.

That's funny about the V-Slicers. I have 3 of them (not V'Slicer brand but the same thing) which have all been gifts and I used one of them once to cut up some onions when I was making meatballs. It took so long to work out which piece to use and then to clean it. I just stick to using a knife now:laughing:

zappy nappy MCN from the Eumundi markets...i had been thinking about starting to use MCN for some time and hadn't researched it and didn't know there were so many choices to make when it comes to MCN. so i jumped in and bought 5 of these nappies. i would sit there and watch Ds wee through them straight onto the floor.
unfortunately i'm stuck with these now and it has put me off outlaying again for other brands of MCNs. which is a pity - maybe one day i'll change my mind.

I used to work in a homewares store. I hated selling these things to people. One good quality knife can do everything a V slicer can.
Also on that topic I would never in a million years buy Scanpan cookware. I used to have at least 2 or so pieces returned EVERY WEEK due to the coating peeling off. I was appalled at how dodgy they were and NEVER tried to sell them to anyone! Swiss Diamond cookware all the way I say!!
The only Nappies my boys don't have an issue with are the Aldi ones.
-Huggies, they got rashes when they were wet
- Baby Love, Snugglers, Lullaby, homebrand of Coles and Woolie leaked after one or two wees..
However, we were using the Huggies Pull Ups for the older when we were TT him.
I had a Peugeot 206 in Switzerland, for over 5 years and no problems at all, broke my heart, when I had to sell it..
Have a Kia Cerato here for about 1 year now and no problems at all. Wouldn't say it's the best car, certainly it's not but it does its use for me.
Have a Tommy Tippe nappy wrapper, works fine.
I would never recommend Beds from Ikea, we bought one for our older but it was completely useless. The holes didn't lay up properly and it was all wobbly and not safe at all.
I'm just crushed that the V-slicer is a bl00dy useless piece of equipment - those ads always make me feel like I could be some sort of super cook.
I am loving the fact though that a few men have bought these useless items.....

I'm amazed at how inaccurate these things are. But my biggest lesson was to not leave it next to my sick DH as every time I walked into the room I recieved an up to the minute update of how high his temp was:rolleyes: .
Snugglers & Huggies don't cause probs here & never have(unless I leave em on too long:eek: ), can't afford an Ipod but even so refuse to buy one for DSS!
The thing I don't like is my Toshiba dvd player , if the remote is lost we can't watch a dvd , or is that with all dvd players? Oh & my Chef gas cooker. Seal fell of so many times from around the oven I've given up on it. Oven stopped lighting itself after 12 months, Grill is NOT hot enough and it allows mice to move into it's insulation... dirty thing:mad: .

i agree with the mass potato, it is perfect to use if you need you casserol (sp) a little thicker.
i dont really have too many regrets,
i had a lemon of a magna but it might have just been that car.
S26 toddler formula, DD hates it, she does not have a very sweet tooth and it is just way to sweet for her to drink.
my lounge i love by i regret buying it from havey norman, the one i went to really are not that bright.
i guess snuggler and the new huggies nappies, snuggler just dont work for DD, they just leak and huggies.....tabs rip off, rash, and i find they smell pretty bad of a morning when i get DD out of bed....i just stick to my aldi, pampers and MCNs
oh and for me DVDs i always regret buying them becuase i watch them once and then dont bother with them again, even if i love the movie, to hire one would be a better option for me.
WAIT i have a good one......my computer tower...its good never gave me any problems except that the power would sometimes cut out. the people who i bought it off had a look at it and said it was fine, (oh and when i got it back the cd drive thing-o did not work, so i had a look and they didnt plug it in again) a month later it would not turn on so i got a guy down the road to look at it, and in his opinion it was one of the monst dangerous pieces of equipment he had ever seen.
the power plug did not go in right and power was arking between the prongs of the plug, the who tower gave off static (i did notice but it never bothered me as i did not realise what was going on). he refused to let me take it home with DD living here, he had to replace the power pack.
never buy a computer with a cheap power pack in it.
I'd be curious to know which year/model you guys drove as I just purchase a brand new 2007 Kia GRAND carnival and love it. Sure it's heavy on petrol however it's an 8 seater which can transport 8 adults very comfortably. Also the GRAND carnival is a long wheel based car so it's boot is longer and also goes down below the floor level allowing to put groceries etc in a cavity.
We researched them thoroughly before purchasing and were skeptical as the earlier models (1999 - 2002) had major engine problems due to engine size not being large enough etc. Now the Grand has a 3.6L engine - and we've taken it off road with much sucess!
Oncea . . .how could 1 baby seat possible render the whole back seat useless? Each seat in the middle row has it's own anchor point.
Anyways, far better value for the growing family that others like tarago's & 7 seater Toyota Klugers & Ford Terratorys etc - heaps of extras makes for a super comfy car JIMO.

Worst thing i ever bought for baby would be the baby bjorn.
it kills my back and it even has the back support! And DS is only 7kgs
i wish i did a bit more research before i bought it.

I used to just keep things too, but a while back (when I bought some dodgy yoghurt and was just going to chuck it -- $4.30!) I'd decided I'd had enough and would be returning from then on.
My lemon was/is our Whirlpool washing machine. $1200 piece of front-loading #$%^! It broke two weeks after we bought it and it took them a month to get the part to fix it and then they realised that wasn't the problem after all (had to laundromat it... so much fun with kids). It's since broken again. Am glad I forked out for the five year warranty as I don't usually buy them. Also had a dodgy LG vacuum cleaner that they wanted me to lug into their service centre three times (a one hour round trip) before they'd give me a new one. In the end, I told them I was 38 weeks pregnant, wasn't lugging it in their again and where they could shove it. Even sent a letter to LG and they did... nothing. Just offered to fix it again!
Thus endeth the vent... :D

I bought an LG vacuum cleaner around this time last year, and I was seriously going to ask it to marry me!! I was soooooo in love with it. I now kick it when I walk past it - stupid thing is useless. (Just thinking about it now, I was the same with my DP in the start and now I like to kick him when I walk past him too :detective: ). It's funny though because we have an LG tv which has a fault and LG were falling over themselves to fix it....weird.

tommee tippee nappy wrapper - i know some people love them but it did zilch to mask any odours and just takes up more space in a room. i'm trying to offload it to preg friends at the moment.
No way did it mask odours! It's a total waste of money. And seriously... who wants to spend $15 a month on PLASTIC BAGS to hold nappies in? One of the little plastic arm things kept falling off mine too... Now I just use it as a regular bin (without the lid). lol. A $70 bin...
snugglers nappies:thumbsdown:
Yep, I agree with that one too. COMPLETE waste of money. I even have a pack of HOMEBRAND nappies (you know, white with black writing from Woolies) for emergencies that last longer and work far better than snugglers! (And are like, $7 a pack, so super cheap! lol).
I'd also advise everyone never ever to get the Desperate Housewives computer game. I'm a big nerd, and bought it coz I had a demo and wanted to play more... as it turns out, there's only 2 brands of video cards it works with... (they rushed to get it out by Christmas, so it sucks) so most computers can't play it! I returned it and switched it for a Sims 2 expansion pack (again, I'm a massive nerd...lol).
I'd also advise people never to buy HAPPY BABY dummies. Every single one DD has ever had has been deflated in a matter of days. No other brand ever does this.
Hi  have to agree with you about the Kia Carnivals. We were so close to buying one recently as it was the only one that fitted us in properly but after much research and speaking to NRMA and a number of mechanics definitely decided against it. Also told cause of their bad rap resale will always be bad. Got a new Mitsubishi Grandis and love it, so do the kids!
Also agree about Snugglers. Had enough one day and rang Kimberley Clark who then told me that they were their cheap brand of nappies with much less absorption and if I didn't want them to leak to buy Huggies (which I do usually but decided to try and save some money) but they did send me a small packet of Huggies as compensation even though I'd bought a large box of 144.
Steelcraft Acclaim Reverse Handle Pram
Even worse to steer than a trolley! As soon as you attempt to do a normal paced walk you get terrible speed wobbles.
i think thats the pram i have...but i have never had that problem. is a bit difficult to steer when you compare it to other prams but its not that bad really. i have never had speed wobbles.
We have a Fisher&Paykel dishwasher that does the same (doesn't dry the dishes) but seeing as it's our first dishwasher I just assumed that was normal. Are they actually meant to be dry when you open that door?

Oh we absolutely love our scanpan cookware we have the whole set of fry pans and sauce pans!! Never had an issue with any of it and best of all have never needed to use any oil in then since we have had them. :yelclap:
Yep I agree maybe the issue the previous had was a fault??

We have to order our wrappers from interstate since moving to the country and now use those smelly bags. Pew-weeee you should smell DS's bedroom. Bring back my wrapper!

DAMN DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES GAME :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: ! I got screwed over last week! It was one of my anniversary presents from DH (who is the computer nerd not I lol) We can't get it to work on any laptop or even the real computer which DH uses for all types of computer gaming. And being a computer game means you can't return it! We have since found lots of upset people on the net too. $50 literally flushed down the drain...
we have a electrolux dishlex and absolutely love it to bits!!! and yes they are meant to be dry hehe
Are you kidding? All this time and I just thought it was normal!!

Maybe baby or any other saliva microscope for detecting ovulation.. OMG, It was so hard to use, and never got a + fern result (Nor did half the users I spoke too) Or it ferned at the wrong time.. Grrr. OPK's def worth more than those stupid useless Inventions
(Only My opinion!)
I loved my Maybe Baby and after using it for one months I fell pregnant straight away. It showed me that I was ovulating on day 11 which I never thought I would. I know a lot of people, who are very happy with it as well. But it says in the product description that it is not suitable for everyone, e.g. people with lower hormone levels. Then the reading can be inacurate and does not show the ferns. But I guess you don't know that until you try it.
I would never buy again:
- a Valco pram - wheel fell off
- a Vaco change table - only suitable unitl 10kg but it does not say it anywhere. You read it on a tiny sticker on the metal, once the table is set up. And then it is too late to exchange.
- Nappy Wrapper - good in the beginning, but it get's really expensive
- crawling knee pads - don't stay on the knees
I am sure there are lots of other things that I would never buy again, but I am too tired to think of them now..

hmm, never had speed wobbles (not on the pram anyway  ), but yeah, its rubbish. I thought it was lovely until i tried to walk on a surace that wasnt completely flat and horizontal. The stupid double wheels end up bowing to each other! Dont get me started on turning and getting wheel lock...
Um, An older Hyundai Excel. No idea about the new ones, but boy did they use to suck.
LOTS of daft toys
ANY furniture made of covered chipboard
Dell computers - can do so much better for less if you shop around
 snugglers and babylove = bad. Havent tried Aldi, I like Huggies and Woolies Select, but I like MCN more.
Oh yeah, and whatever you do, dont buy your own engagement ring!

I agree, we bought this pram thinking it would be fab being able to have bub facing us or in front. We lived in a hilly suburb and would walk over to my FIL's place and everytime we went uphill or downhill the speed wobbles would get so bad that poor DD was nearly shaken out of the pram.
AND it took me forever to figure how to lock/unlock the wheels depending on which way bub was facing.

We returned an anti-virus program coz it didn't work properly on our computer (kept disconnecting the internet and locking the computer so we couldn't do anything), we got a full cash refund too. You just gotta push a little, especially if the game doesn't work at all. Call fair trading or something and speak to them too, they are always helpful.
I don't think we have brought anything too dodgy, all the stuff we have had probs with have been cheap and nasty (eg our computer desk from The Warehouse), so we didn't expect much else.
I cannot use any disposable other than huggies on my 2 as all the others leave crystals on them and they are allergic to it. Really should get off my backside and use cloth like my sis...
Valco Runabout pram - could not figure out that locking wheel and it was so heavy trying to lift it at 8 mths pregnant.
I wish I had known about other baby carriers as I have the byorn and have back issues to start with and it just made it worse.
I will never ever buy an LG DVD Player or recorder we have had 3 in the last 2 years, one of which only lasted 1 week now I have a Sony and it is fantastic.
About the dishwashers, with all of them trying to conserve water and energy it is the drying process is what is affected in doing this.
A 3 wheeler. The one we bought from Valco was dangerous. It fell over a few times with bub as a newborn in it. I hated the thing.
I love my 3 wheeler Valco!
