View Full Version : oven lock
Hi - wanting to know if anyone knows where I can can get an oven lock from - but not the plastic clippy type as this does not work for our oven.
We have a big industrial looking Ilve and had seen somewhere oven locks with little chain attachment thingy's....... What do others use on big underbench ovens like this??
This houseproofing is harder than I thought!!

I've found Toys R Us have heaps of child-proofing stuff.... but I think I've only ever seen plastic stuff there.
Maybe try calling the manufacturer of the oven ? Or a hardware store (one of those huuuuge ones with everything).
Sorry, haven't been much help have I?! Our oven is up in the wall. And in our last house, when Vallerie was little, she just never really played with the oven. I kept our kitchen pretty boring so she was more inclined to play in the family room.

I happened to spot this oven guard the other day: http://www.safeaus.com.au/cgi-bin/commerce.cgi?product=KitchenSafety (guard is at the bottom of the page) Quote from the web site:
These Oven Guards provide a heat resistant protective cover for your oven. They significantly lower the surface temperature of the front of the oven, by acting as a heat barrier for the oven door.
The Oven Guards are constructed from a high quality fire-resistant fabric used in firemen's uniforms, and insulated with Australian wool. They keep the oven door at 42 degrees celsius or lower, even when you are cooking at 250 degrees celsius. They fit securely over the oven door and are very easy to apply or remove. No alterations or additions to your oven are required whatsoever.
As an added safety feature, locking clips can be added to the guard on freestanding ovens to prevent the oven door being opened.
Available in 3 widths from 60cm ($108) up to 90 cm ($142), which I guess would cover your industrial oven. I don't know how much of a hassle they are when you want to open the oven door. The guy that runs this web site is based in Perth, very pro on kids safety. I took a kids first aid course from him (but haven't ordered off his website).
