Do you have to change MCN's more often than disposables?
I seem to have to change my MCN's after only a couple of hours (max), whereas I could go 3-4 hours with sposies.......... Does this sound right?

It varies...I change every wee so of a morning thats every hour but of an afternoon he wees less so every 3 hours is about right.
I could get longer out of my nappies but I prefer to change them straight away as we dont use covers at home.
I can quite easily get 6 hours of a MCN with a cover and a liner....I have left them on him that long before. :o
Oh and at night 12 hours.
Many ppl feel they can get away with a disposable on longer as it draws all the moisture away into the crystals. However, too many disposables are left on way too long.
Did you know nappy rash actually sky rocketed when disposables were introduced?!
Depending on what type of material is used in the cloth nappy will determine how often you'll need to change it. If it cotton your going to have to change it sooner than a bamboo nappy.
Many ppl like to change as soon as it's wet, helping to prevent nappy rash. Others will leave it on a bit longer.
Dd2 spends 1/2 the day nappy free (no carpet), but generally I'd say we change about every 2-3 hrs or so.
HTH:)
eta: dd2 has a BB bamboo, bamboo foldup and wool cover/soaker on for night time. It's on from about 7:30pm until 6:30-7:30am. Sometimes quite wet, other times not overly wet at all.

Thanks!
DS spends a large amount of his time at home nappy free too.
But it's when we are out and about that he will be in cloth (and at day care), and I feel like I am changing twice as many nappies:rolleyes:
I was worried I wasn't doing it right, but 2-3 hrs sounds right, so I guess I am!:)

I change every 2-3 hours sometimes in the morning, the first nappy I'll change after half an hour.
I don't NEED to change that often but I like to change whenever wet.
Some of my nappies I vould easily get 6hrs+ out of them in the daytime.
A BBB would prob last the ENTIRE day if I left it on that long :barf:
Some ppl seem to leave nappies on until they are full. Which is just gross and prob really bad for poor little bubba

What sort of nappies do you use? Can you boost them while you are out?
If we are out sometimes DD's nappy gets left on for 4-5 hrs accidentally and we never have any leaks

I am using swaddlebees during the day, and am trying to avoid boosting them cause I prefer a trimmer nappy so I can still fit his clothes over them!!:D

I use mostly AIO's now, and some AIO's I can get by without changing DS for 4-5 hours.
I've never had a problem with nappy rash either!
Swaddlebees leaked and didn't seem to absorbent to me- I was shocked at how fast his clothes got wet! I prefer BP's, Ittis, Bumgenius AIO, Fuzzibunz...(PS all these nappies are VERY trim!) Sometimes I change DS morning, midday, poo late arvo, then night nappy. Usually 4/5 nappies a day. But when I was using fitteds, it was 6-7...
Maybe it was just me, but I know that these (and this Dry Baby AIO I have too) will last 3/4/5 hours, because if I forget to change him and remember later, his clothes still aren't wet; but the nappy sure is!!
I use BBB both day and night as well as other fitteds and pockets for day or going out. I can get 4-5 hours out of each nappy...especially the BBB.
At night DS can be in BBB for 12+ hours.
Because we use microfleece liners, we have never had any dramas with nappy rash.
We change nappy asap when ds does his number 2 though.
I change my DD proably every 4 hours or so. Generally when she gets dressed in the morning so around 8ish, then before she goes for her nap, so around 1ish, then when she wakes which is around 3ish, then not again until bath time which is 7. Sometimes I don't need to change her, but feel better for doing it. The nappies always wet, but she isn't at all.

I change slightly more for my 15 month old than sposies, but not significantly so that
its a problem.
One when he gets up, one for after his poo, one mid morning.
One after lunch, one after his sleep, late afternoon, after dinner, then bed.
It depends on the day for me. Some days I seem to change more and other days not. For me though I am not worried about changing with MCN like I did with disposable as it is not wasting a nappy or money so changing more often doesn't bother me.
I definitely realise I left a sposie on too long at times and changing more often is better.
I do have AIO's DS has had no leaks with after 3-4hrs.
Channy that's what we find with sposies ( the couple of times we've used them) Once we were getting the kids ready for their bath, and we realised that we hadn't changed Maddi all day. Because she didn't feel wet, we just didn't think to do it :o :o we felt terrible, and don't think she's had a sposie on since.
time/how often isn't relevant - I change him as soon as he wees, so 10mins? 3 hrs? it varies all the time. I would do the same with disposables, so makes no difference, it's just cheaper and easier to know he's wet in cloth. Plus he tells me when he goes now too ;)

Thanks for this feedback, cause the swaddlebees I have have been very leaky too, which is why I asked the question! Maybe I have to investigate some other brands of nappies:rolleyes:
So maybe it is time to try other options- as it seems that most of you can get several hours out of a nappy if you need too.

Definately! I can even take DD out in just her BBB (no cover etc) if I add an extra booster & not have to worry for an hour or so about it leaking through in even the slightest. If we have a cover as well it will last hours & hours- 4-5 hours easily up to 12 over night with the same = wooly soaker over the top. We have to change DD v regularly though or she gets bad nappy rash- she has v acidic wee.
hmmm
it depends which nappy we use.
GK´s are fantastic and last around 3 hours-
rumpsters are in second place
and
magic alls have to be changed every 2nd hour
mind you we are talking about a mega heavy wetter here LOL
he wees through everything with ease
nights are a drama at the moment (we use GK´s megastuffed with lots and LOTS of things...), as i felted my wool cover (and it doesn´t fit anymore GRR)
well, i knitted a new one, so lets hope we soon have weewee free nights again, without needing to change bubby in the middle of the night...
how long it 'lasts' really depends on how much absorbent material there is in the nappy.
Something like a BBB or well stuffed GK pocket is going to last longer than a SB with minimal stuffing, because there is simply more material in there to soak up the wee. It has to go somewhere!
It would depend on the nappy on how long it would last for going out.
I change bub as soon as he wets or dirties. This would be the case with any nappy. I try to boost when we go out cos we may not be able to change straight away.

I can only leave a MCN on Ethan for about 2-3 hours otherwise he does come out in a rash, whereas, I'd easily only use 3-4 sposies per day/night with no sign of a rash.
