Hi,

There is a very real possibility that I will have to go and get a night job in a pub or stacking shelves so we can make ends meet (I won't work outside the home during the day and leave DS).

I would love to do something from home that would enable me to still be with DS most of the time but I just don't know what to do. If I tell you a little about myself and my experience perhaps you could help me?????

Before falling preggers I was a personal assistant. I can type fast and do anything admin based. I don't know anything about bookkeeping.

I did a nail course 2 years ago (acrylic nails) with the view to doing that at home when SAHM, but now that I'm here the thought of all those chemicals around my bubs doesn't sit too well with me, plus we have a REALLY small house and no spare room in which to do this and no escaping the fumes.

That's about it - I dabbled in hairdressing for a few years but never completed my apprenticeship so am not fully qualified.

Any suggestions or any ideas where I can get some direction?

We need the money, but if I can avoid having to leave the home to find work I would prefer that.

Thanking you in anticipation.......

Larissa

hey there Riss .... what time does DH get home from work?? could you go to people's houses of a night time and do their nails?? Offer a home service of sorts of minicures, full sets and acrylics ... coming up to formal times you could be run off your feet if you can get yourself established.

I too am looking at doing SOMETHING from home as after this c-sect (next month .... ARGHHHHHH) i'm going to need quite a bit of re-coup time or so I've been told!!! Unfortunately my skills are teaching (but I suck at tutoring) and data entry work ... not in high demand unfortunately.

Unless we both sign up for Mystery shopper and go SHOPPING for a living together!! LOL

Rissa Rissa Rissa ok let me think

Slap on the wrists for not finishing a hairdressing apprenticeship! I have found it invaluable as you know I can work from a chair outside my house in the bush :D
Nails , well I have to agree with you there, the smell is disgusting, what about doing that mobile and leaving Oz with a friend...and don't tell me you have none.Leave him with your parents and he can make sandwiches in the deli :p

or you do a massage course and work from home.Just put client on your dining room table pmsl kiding..have you got any room to do this?
or maybe be a undercoverwear consultant....i love their clothes!

maybe tupperwear, you would only have to sell one bloody saucepan a week and you'd be a squillionaire in a year!

Do a bookeeping course, I have dabbled in admin and bookkeeping prior to gst and i love it but i would need and have considered, doing a course and working from home.

My g/f does mystery shopping but she doesn't make money as such as they just reimburse you for what they tell you to purchase etc

Or stick with the original plan and sell Adam's bod:D

PMSL - shopping is part of why I'm so bloody poor. Could you imagine me being a 'mystery shopper' I'd be bankrupt in a week, lol.

Our house is so small that I can spit from one end to the other ;) so no room to set up anything!

Thought about the bookkeeping as SIL was doing it from home but has now gone back to work ft so i could pick up some of her work - but nature of the business that i would have to register and be legit - would prefer some cash in hand (slap, naughty girl).

could do nails outside in backyard. hmmm dog hair acrylic nails. could be a new trend, lol.

I thought about being an ironing lady. do they make much? probably not.

it's so bl@@dy hard isn't it.

Jen - I'm coming up there - our own salon sounds like the way to go. i'll have to leave adam at home - mummy's apron strings don't go all the way to darwin, pmsl

if you are good at ironing, it can be a great way of making extra money, there is always demand for a good ironing lady, and if offer a pick up and drop off service, you will get even more clients. another thing to think about is setting yourself up as a family day care provider, you might have to make some slight modifications to your house,(maybe, depends on the rules in your area) but if you contact your local council, they will provide you with all the info you need, child to adult ratios, if you want to take in babies, what you have to do, payment etc. i have a cousin who does it, and she loves it. no formal training is required, although im pretty sure you have to get your first aid certificate, and there are all sorts of courses and resources to give you ideas for activities etc. you get to stay home with bubs, and he gets some friends to play with each day!!
good luck :)

You could mark assignments for TAFE or other training institution. I used to work at a correspondence TAFE and we had a lot of external markers. Might need to check out the correspondence training centres though.

I do mystery shopping - and being in the country - certainly doesn't make me rich! they do pay you for each assignment and reimburse you for what you buy if you need to - most times I don't buy anything (must be with diff company that above). ie shop at a bank is $20.

A friend of mine does house keeping and can charge $20 an hour as she is sooo busy (hate cleaning myself...)

Good luck
