OK I have a 1kg roast beef in the fridge that is wanting to be cooked
Any ideas on what to do with it & how long to cook it for? Thinking kinda baked dinner style.
Oh should add, I have an oven & a slow cooker that has been sitting in my cupboard, never used. Its older than me :o
Help please :D

Well Goose, by the time you get to the airport, buy the tickets, board, check in, take off, land at sydney, get out of the airport & onto a train, change at central & get up here....................that will be about midnight
I will do exactly what you said though  I will post & let you know how yummy it is too. Might even be a really good housewife & make some gravy from scratch with the juices  :chef:

mmmmmmmmm gravy.. You must be feeling nice today.. No sickness??
Im not feeling sick but feeling lazy so we are having good old spaghetti.. :o
Oh yeh.. if the meat is big chunk then those times should be good.. if its more long and thinner you can get away with less cooking..
But you will be able to tell when its done..
Enjoy.. :hugs:

Not much sickness today no. Hopefully its going away :fingerscrossed: Just figure that there is less to do with a roast dinner than staning there stirring, adding stuff etc to normal food.
Know all about the tiredness, i've been up since 1am :( :hugs:
Its a chunk, only 1kg so shouldnt take too long at all.
Just a bit nerve racking, i've done plenty of roast chooks but never a roast beef. Depending on how this goes, might be brave one day & cook a raost posk with crackling :D

Thank you for this thread!! I came on today with the intention of starting one exactly the same.
So this beef? Do I put spices or herbs on it? Just leave it plain???
As for the pork, I rub salt and oil into the crackly bit leave it for 10 mins then do it again. Then I bung it in the oven @200-250.c for 10 mins then drop it back to 180.c for the remaining time....Hey presto works everytime.

I cook our roast beef as follows:
Place 1 to 2 sachets of dry french onion soup mix in a oven bag.. shake it round.. place roast beef in bag and cook in the oven for the normal time...
It comes out so yummy and scrumptious!!!
Beware: may cause excessive rear end gas after you have eaten it!! LOL
We are having the same thing for tea! HMMM smells so yummyy!!!!

I was lazy last night & didnt do it, doing it now BUT
I have just realised I dont have a baking dish. I leant it to my mum when she had visitors :( Should I use a baking dish with a rack on top to cook it, so the juice goes into the dish? Or just cook it in the dish?
HELP PLEASE :o

:hugs: Sorry if this is too late...
Last night I cooked a wonderful roast beef. Mine was huge though, like 3kg:eek:
I put the LUMP of cow into the baking dish no rack. I put beef stock and a few other bits. with some water, covered the beef with Al-foil and put the oven on low for 2 hrs then turned it over poked it with a knife, to let "juices" out. Then turned heat up, for about an hour to cripsy top!!

That was one of the most yummy meals I have ever had (if I do say so myself :D).
I put it on a rack over a pyrex dish, cooked it for about 90mins (I like my meat cooked) in a 180 oven just sprinkling it with steak spice before hand & sprayed it with oil. It was so crunchy on the outside & moist on the inside. Even MJ ate it
Then I put the pyrex dish straight on the stove top while the meat rested, added wholemeal flour, a bit of oil, cooked that, added water & vege juices (from the peas & corn) & sauce & cooked it all till it was a nice thick gravy.
Mesa thinks mesa will be getting more roasts

Yummy. I was bored with the traditional roast and had one to use day before yesterday, so I put it in a casserole dish, poured 2 cups of dry vermouth over it added some vege stock, salt and pepper, a dozen garlic cloves and a drizzle of olive oil over the exposed bits then cooked it for nearly 2 hours at 160. It was delicious.

Another good way to cook roast beef is to cover it in a seeded mustard, spray some oil and place alfoi around it and cook at usual temp and time.
This makes for a fabulous home made gravy afterwards as well!
