View Full Version : another question about washing nappies
sick of me yet?? :D
So we had some success with the GK's, and had our first poopy one, which was well contained. But I just washed them, and the inside is white, and our poops are very yellow... and those stains didnt come out in the wash, is that normal? And of course there is not much sun today, so I cant put them in the sun....
yes this is normal....just hang them out next sunny day and they will come out spotless. Where has all the sunshine gone?
I am having the same problem.
lol, that is so typical, my first nappy wash and no sun....
I'm from Melb, so can't always put them on the line... So we use fleece liners to stop poo stains. I also want to keep them nice and white for my next bubba to use, and if I have to sell any of them in the future, don't have to worry about people being dissapointed because they've got stains on them.

Even if it doesn't seem sunny, a few hours white-side up in the sun will usually help (I've had success on overcast days in Melbourne, Ziggiestar, coooeeeee, can you see me?). Even if it seems the sun is hiding behind clouds, usually the uv that does jump through helps bleach the nappies.:D
Oh and liners are a great idea, I've just starting thinking that, because solid food= sticky poo. Sorry to hijack, but does the poo roll off fleece liners well?:fingerscrossed: Or do I need a little squirt?...
Yep, I see ya Amber! :D
Mitch's poo rolls right off! I just fold the liner, take it to the loo, and sort of let the poo fall in. (Gotta make sure I aim right though.... and watch out for splashes!!!) I don't have a little squirt. We're renting, and I'm not sure that the landlord would like us fiddling with the pipes.
Yesterday really annoyed me! They said it was going to rain by lunchtime, so I hung the nappies on the clothes horse. Then the rain never came! Gee, get it right Mr Weatherman!

Hmm, okay- off to Spotlight for some fleece!
Ta Ziggies!:hugs:
lol, I did have a fleece liner in, but it escaped... gotta love those BF explosions...
Even on a completely overcast day UV rays penetrate through the clouds. So it doesn't matter if you can't see any sunlight, it's the UV rays that matter.
Re: fleece liners - Just watch out when you're using fleece liners on top of fleece/ suedecloth because the liquid can repel or get caught between the layers then leak out the sides. I learnt this the hard way when I couldn't figure out why my fleece-lined nappies were leaking! :o - stopped using fleece liners with them and no more leaks
Although if you don't use the liners, then there's the stains to contend with...you can't win! LOL

Nuddle, did you rinse off the poo before washing the nappy? I find it really helps, and ours do stain when DH puts them in the bucket with some poo still on there:rolleyes: the sun always gets them out though. I don't worry too much though, put it back on DD when it's dry and the stain will come out with the next wash/sun:thumbsup:
oh really... so thats only when the inside is a fleecy material...?

Nuddle you don't need to hose off runny newborn poo, only really the solid clay stuff;)
I only just started rinsing nappies since starting solids at 6 month.... Poo= solid, so kinda need to, or else the other nappies come out with bits of corn on them

lol, sounds like a plan, maybe I can plan to move house in the next 5 months and get a house with a laundry thats upstairs lol. or else will have to get a little squirt I guess, that might be easier and cheaper..:D
