Hi everyone,
Libby is due to get her 1 year immunisation done on Wednesday, and it seems like she's going to get an awful lot of needles -
* MMR
* Hib
* Meningococcal C
She has developed fevers and been very whingey and restless previously, and I am just really nervous and anxious about the potential reaction this time around.
I have heard that MMR can cause a bad reaction.:(
Can you please share your stories, or at least reassure me?
Nervously yours,
Nickster......
Hi Nickster!
I would think that she would have a similar reaction as she's had before. Neither of my boys have had any worries with any of their needles, maybe a slight temp and a little grumpy but that's about it.
I wouldn't be overly concerned, but watch her afterwards. I also give my boys panadol before we go, my GP suggested it and it's now routine for any needles for them.
Good luck!

You'll be happy to know that when O had his younger ones he reacted badly (very high temps etc) but at the 12 month ones he had hardly anything!
Maybe their little immune systems are better equipped, I'm not sure.
But I was pleasantly surprised as I had been quite worried about it.
Nickster, my little man is due for his too. :( Isn't it awful. Hopefully it isn't too bad.

Noah didn't have much of a reaction until his 12 month needles. He got a rash all over about a week later, and lasted about two weeks. It didn't seem to bother him too much though he just slept a bit more than usual. It started around his mouth and went to his stomach and back. No fever just the rash.
It was a bit scary for me though, but all worked out in the end and it's still worth getting them in the long run :)

My son is due for his soon and the only real reaction he has had to his needles is being a bit irritable the next day and a large lump that lasts about a month though it never bothers him. I think it's the hib that causes the lump. can't be certain though.

Usually at 12mths they can cope with it a lot better but that all being said there are exceptions.
Im lucky with my bubs besides being a little restless & sore on the wound sites he hasnt had any dramas but we are still 2mths off his 12mth lot so we will see how that goes. I had terrible reactions when little so in the end my mum & doctor decided to only give me half doses so it meant i was still catching up when entering school. Maybe if your worried talk to your doctor or clinic nurse about it & see what options you have.
You can just prepare yourself before hand with what to look our for if its serious & stock up on panadol or the like for the fever also a cold compress for the wound sites seems to works wonders for us. Id just make sure she has panadol before she goes for them as Sarie suggested it seems to work wonders for most bubs especially with fevers try not to stress easier said than done i know but babies always pick up on this from mum.
Always remember that this is all for the greater good.
Wishing you all the best :)

Hey Nickster
Petey had his just a few weeks ago and he was ok...he was extra grumpy but that was becuase he had two teeth pop out a couple of days after ... :eek:
Other than being grumpy, he didnt have any different reactions to what he has experienced with the others...dont worry too much! She'll be fine :)

Hi Nickster
My DS didn't have any problems with any of his needles, maybe a slight fever that was gone within 24hrs...but when we went for the 12mth ones I was a bit worried about him having 3 at once, I also wondered where they would put them.
My Dr said we could have the MMR and Hib that day and come back a week later for the Meningococcal C.
I decided to get them all done at once, one in each leg and one in his arm...or was it both arms and one leg? I can't remember, anyway, he onlyhad a slight fever that time too.
I know how you feel tho, my DD is due for her 8 week needles next week :eek:
Good luck, hope Libby handles these ones better :)
It's actually quite safe to delay until such a time as you feel more confident and you can build their immune systems in different ways to help them cope with the added load. If she doesn't have the MMR right on 12 months it's ok. Better safe than sorry, right? And if researching more till you feel it's the right decision, and have a plan of how to support her, makes you feel better about the process, why not?
