No, I'm not good enough to make nappies to sell, but I can dream can't I?
What do you think of...
Nothing Butt Cloth
Do you like it? :D

Love it Phin!!
Although I like it better with one 't' in 'nothing' ;) :p
It's a great play on words which I like in a business name, and it isn't so damn cutsie... so sick of cutsie names containing the words toosh/tooshie/cutie/cheeks, you get the drift... Well done, now you just need to register it so no-one else nabs it! Or.... even better... you register the name and then SELL IT (and the .com) to whoever wants it!!

Oops I can't spell! The nothing is meant to just have one T! fixed now :D
Maybe I should register it in hope of one day being able to get good enough at sewing!

Oh, from reading only the first post, i was going to suggest registering it but it sounds as though it already is. Did you search business names or just a google search in general?
If it isn't registered, you can do this. Doesn't mean you have to set up business as such, just gives you the name if you decideto do something with it.
ETA- The site I found is an American one so maybe it doesn't exist in Aus yet?
ETA AGAIN- I just checked it out for you and NO, it isn't registered-at least not in VIC. I can't get through the NSW site (too complicated at this time of night!)

Ah, bugger.... I had this problem too! So hard to come up with something witty and original.
Something encouraging to remember is that some of the best/well-known MCN brand names have nothing to do with nappies- think Cherub's Kiss and the like.. Quite nice really and has the potential to have some sort of personal significance and be somewhat sophisticated at the same time
phineas~have you checked if they have actually trademarked/copyrighted the name??? its an american company...would there be an issue if you started making nappies under that name here in australia....
maybe you can be nuthin butt cloth....lol

Phin, buy the .com.au!! Soo cheap! Could be worthwhile?! :detective:
Shanaynay
27-04-2007, 21:17
Maybe I should.... but would it be confusing with two MCN brands (if I ever sold anything:laughing:) the same?
Hey look at my latest nappy! click! (http://picasaweb.google.com/superstitiouspigeon/NappiesIVeMade/photo#5058023394501798210)
and holchajam's chubba bubba modelling my second laest! click again! (http://picasaweb.google.com/superstitiouspigeon/NappiesIVeMade/photo#5058025091013880162)
can't you just imagine a "nothing butt cloth" logo on them :D

Moooooooooooooooo and Toot Toot!
Great nappies! Well done.
As to being confused over two labels the same? I wouldn't be concerned as the other site is American and most of us here in Aus would buy from our own WAHM's before we would look O/S. In fact, I never look at O/S nappy sites.

Just as a helpfulness....
$113 a year (cheaper for 3) to register a business name - and you can be no more than 2 months out from starting. The name can not be the same as any in YOUR state - unless they have registered it nation wide... It also can not be confused with any other business similar...
Im looking at domains now - The one im interested in is an australian hosted - and for the package id need is $19.90 a month, can get cheap than that tho.
i hate to burst your bubble, rain on your parade and any other cliche i can think of, but why would you deliberately set out to choose a name the same as someone else's business, even if they are in a different country?? even if you may technically be able to do so, don't simple business ethics tell you that this is not a good thing to do???

I didn't deliberately set out to choose the name of someone else's business..... if you read beack you'll see that I had thought of a great name then after posting found out that somebody on the other side of the world also happens to have the same name.

Those nappies look great. Why not go for the option of an Ozebaby store? I have an oze store as well as my online store. It may be cheap to register, but you then have to build your site, maintain it and advertise. Google ranking takes ages. I have pay per click with them so I come up in the first page side bar. The costs all add up, and making your own MCN isn't going to bring in the kind of money you need to maintain your advertising etc etc at first. I would highly recomend getting an oze store, Janie has great ranking with google. and probably a much better return for your dollar as far as sales go.

i've just read a string of posts saying don't worry if it's the same, it doesn't matter if it's the same, register it anyway, obviously i've misinterpreted if you have no intention of using the name afterall.

Bek - not only that, I actully have no intention of starting my own business either. Just an idea :(
Foxy - you wouldn't be saying that if you saw the nappies up close!! haha! I've actually never sewed in my life (I think I made an apron at school once actually!) before a month ago, so they are quite dodgy  Total lack of any basic sewing techniques.... but I've just started sewing lessons.... hopefully I will get better with lots of practice :smiliedance:

Sewing lessons are good value, I had some last year. Thinking of heading off to advanced lessons this year with my ideas for my own MCNs... I want them to be good quality.
Shanaynay
28-04-2007, 11:04
Advanced lessons.... cool!
At the moment we are learning how to make pull-on pants in my sewing lessons. I'm going to make fleece longies for DD :yelclap:
I can't wait till we learn how to put zips in, I really want to make DD1 a winter pinafore, but I think every pattern would probabably need a zip in it.
Foxy, I took my MCN's I made to sewing lessons last week, they were all amazed!

Sounds good Phineas. It does sound a lot like 'Real Nappy Week' though.. did that have some influence ?
Dont listen to what Zoe says. The nappies that she has made for James I use for especially going out so ppl can see them. They are great...

 I don't think this is meant to happen for me!
How do people come up with business names that aren't taken and aren't stupid?!
ETA: What about "Fluffybutts"
ETA again: there is no "fluffybutts" as far as i can find. there is a "fluffybums" but they aren't MCN, they make special occasion diaper covers! hehe
fluffybutts is a doggie website:D

Can I make a suggestion that you move away from the buttz/butts/bots/bumz type names?

Yeah TBH all the nappy makers with that in their name just confuse me!!! And ones with toosh/tushies/tooshies!
M&M- where do I get one of those patterns?
Jammin' Tots
Cruising in Bamboo
PandaBumz (this one returned NO MATCHES) ( I thought panda.. coz pandas eat bamboo... )

Lol, My DH was reading over my shoulder and suggested Poo Packets! He was deadly serious
Re the pinny pattern: Just from spotlight. Have a look thru the butterick pattern book and you will see the pictures of it #5095. There is the pattern for 9 different Pinnies in there, It was only about $5 too!
I've got a great and funky business name but I'm not telling... till the store opens at least! ;)
But a friend of mine suggested: Bum Fluff!

I'm just laughing and laughing at this thread - there's already a commercial pattern called "Poo Pockets".

ETA: Weird, I just got a post notification by email with a giant sledge in it, but the post is gone already. No, it wasn't a sarcastic or mean-spirited laugh. I'm sorry that you think I do nothing to contribute to cloth nappy threads here in bubhub.
Curiously enough, one thing I've been doing over the last few weeks is helping out a new WAHM setting up her web store, so you were mistaken about that bit too. If you have any question about the tone of a post in future, you're more than welcome to PM or email me to ask.
