View Full Version : Chicken pox and babies
DD2 has chicken pox :barf: . I am not so worried about myself or dp or DD1 (she has just gotten over them) but I am worried about James who is 6 Months. Will he most definatly get them? And should I seek medical treatment or just keep him hydrated and his temp down and sooth the itcyness??
Any help would be appreciated....
As long as your little one doesn't get to many in his mouth so he can drink he should be ok if he goes a day with out drinking and doesn't have a wet nappy in about a 8hr time limit i would take him to the hospital they can't do much other than give him fluids but it is better than him getting to sick..
:fingerscrossed: crosed he doesn't get it not nice for a little one..
Keep him coved in full cotten all in one and put mittens on hands..

Matthew got chickenpox when he was 6.5mths old and he only ended up with about 2 dozen spots. I just covered them in Paraderm Plus cream, gave him an anti-histamine syrup with some panadol and kept his fluids up.
He was right as rain after 3-4 days.
One other tip, give him showers and not a bath. The blisters can burst in the bath and create more spots. Or so I was told by the pharmacist.

dd9 and ds4 got them about when they were 6months as well they were grizzly and tired but they were fine, just had to keep the temps down and the doc gave me an antihistamene to ease the itching :)
They didnt have it exessively though but it wasnt pretty
DS#2 had them when he was 7 WEEKS old...not a drama atall...only ended up with a few spots and the best thing was, he couldnt scratch them,he wasnt fazed at all.
I just used some lavender oil on them, he didnt get much of a temp but I believe the temperature helps them recover faster so didnt medicate it.
It'll be fine:yes:
DS had them too. We were told just to give him panadol and don't use soap at bath time.
