Now that we are a family of 3 children and combined income of 55,000 will we be entitled to a health care card?
We didn't have one with just the 4 of us but someone mentioned we may be able to get one now we have an extra child?
Hmm, our combined income is around the same as yours and as far as I know you can't get a HCC unless u get parenting payment(we only get FTB). Between us we have 3 kids, but DSD isn't with us full time, so I'm not sure if that affects it.
Best bet is to ring centrelink and see what they have to say. I really hate not having a HCC :(
According to the centrelink website (and some use of my computer calculator) to qualify for a low income health care card the weekly family income must be below $807 (around there).
Otherwise you have to be on one of the following :
ou can get a Health Care Card if you:
* get one of the following payments:
o Newstart Allowance
o Exceptional Circumstances Relief Payment
o Special Benefit
o Sickness Allowance
o Partner Allowance
o Widow Allowance
o Youth Allowance (only job seekers receive a card automatically, you need to apply as a low income earner if you are a full-time student)
o Parenting Payment (Partnered)
o maximum rate of Family Tax Benefit Part A
o Mobility Allowance (if you are not receiving Disability Support Pension)
o Carer Allowance (for a child under 16 years with a disability - the card is for the direct benefit of the child only).
* are a foster carer - issued in the name of the foster child in your care. You are also eligible if you are caring for children who are not your natural or adopted children, for example if you are a grandparent or aunty. You can claim the card with Family Tax Benefit or put in a separate claim, or
* are a low income earner - go to Low Income Health Care Cards.

Our combined income is 52,000 and we have a HCC. Have a look on the Centrelink website and maybe just do a quick FTB estimate it should tell you whether you qualify for one or not.
Hi, our combined income in $44,000 and we don't qualify for a Health Care Card. We did last year but when it ran out we were told we didn't qualify this year as the limit had been raised.

Such a joke, IMO, A health care card should apply to everyone.
:( Obviously if someones earning more the 100k they're not going to apply.
i was told yesterday until i earn 40,000 a year i am entitled to one...

It doesn't work on how many kids you have....it should though. We have 4 kids and are surviving on an income of $51 000 and don't qualify....it stinks.

Actually yes it does. . the limit goes up a certain amount for each child u have. here is the test for the low incoe one (http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/payments/conc_cards_iat.htm)
There are to types of HCC ..one is low income and one is based on payments u get.
