hi everyone, about 3 wks ago, i started taking the pill for the first time in my life. since then ive had a horrendous migraine attack, that lasted for 2 days, and i still am getting headaches, i have had 5 or 6 cold sores suddenly spring out of no where and im coming out in pimples.
now im assuming that it is the pill, am i right? are these symptoms others have experienced, or did you have any other side effects?
if you did have problems, did a change in brand fix it, or did you have to stop taking it completely, what brands are better than others?
thanks in advance for any experience/advice shared :)

hey hon

sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad!!! ((hugs))

I haven't had reactions to the pill myself - but a friend did (massive migraines) - so she is on the injections now .. and has no reactions to them. Dont know if you would consider that as an option...

Hey coops, Sounds like the pill to me. I have taken it all my life (well all my sexually active life) and when I first started taking it I got the worst pimple outbreak ever (I had very rarely had a pimple beforehand). I had headaches, stomach pains, coldsores, nausea (for about an hour after I took my pill everyday - still get it but not for as long). After a couple months everything settled down and I haven't had any problems since.

Like I said I still feel sick in my stomach straight after I take it for maybe 10-15 minutes and I do get terrific mood swings on the odd occassion. There isn't much I can do about the nausea - I take my pill before bed so I don't have to deal with feeling sick while I am awake. If I start ot get moody I take evening primrose oil tablets and they help calm me down. This is not so much of a problem since I have had my girls - maybe my hormones have changed slightly - you would think it would be the other way around!!

I would speak to my GP and make sure you read the info leaflet that you get in the box. I hope you start to feel better.

thanks kelly :) so it often settles down then? if that happens then i dont mind waiting for it all to pass, i just dont want to have to put up with it all permanently!!! :)

With me it was trial & error. Some pills gave me all your side effects. Then we finally found one that was great. No migranes, pimples, clotting or cramps :D

Hope you get some relief soon :)

Coops, you sound run down to me..

Cold sores are caused by that rotten herpes simplex virus which generally sprouts up if you're tired, not eating properly that sort of thing..
Get some Lysine, green leafy veges into you and take Vitamin C and try and get some sleep. I know the latter is difficult with 4 kids..

Erin, get those L-lysine and Vitamin C into you and use the zovirax 5 times a day and your cold sore's will be gone by the weekend.

I personally dislike the pill, it just didn't agree with me (I tried several different ones), maybe try a different one.

Rainbowbrite - Which brand was that?

There is two that I can think of, Blackmores and Natures Own.. Some Inner Health probably wouldn't hurt you either..

Just consulting my manual to find there is one called Vitaline Cold sore Tablets..

Never been on the pill but have heard of people who get that same reaction you had.

I tried the depo injection and got insane mood swings, and the implant which made me haemhorrage blood severely. Scared to try the pill, but it'll be a while before I need to consider it, thank god!

Good luck finding something that works for you!

You can also get Zolaten Cold Sore Cream. Exactly the same drug as Zorvirax, only about $10 cheaper. Won't usually help unless you hit them on the first sign of tingling :(

Hi Erin,
Sorry you've been feeling crappy.
I have tried many many different pills. I think a good half a dozen all up. I even took the really expensive one that was supposed to sort me out. It didn't.
Some made me sick, some gave me headaches and then I was on one that I bled continuously on.
I finally vowed never to take it again after I got pregnant.:o
If you can change them to a different one, I know people who have tried different ones and had great success.
Hope it gets better soon.
E
Sorry just realised really negative story.
But it will get better for you, your special.;)

Hey Coops,
I'm not on the pill anymore, my migrains are far worse when I am. At least now I only get around one a month. I tried the mini pill, but that didn't work either, they still made me feel awful.
Good luck Hon!

Hi Erin,

No happy stories from me either, I'm afraid. :o
I refuse to take the Pill anymore (haven't for about 10 years) as it gives me crazy mood swings. (as in "where's my axe?") I tried everything, but am much happier without it. DH just has to live with that, but he hasn't got a problem with it. He'd rather live to see another day, too!
Good luck with it all.:)

Yep sounds like a side effect, maybe a mini pill would ease the headaches but then it is not as affective as the normal pill, but there again like HL I have take 6 different ones last one I got pregnant on lol so yeah works real well...me no use pill again he he

ask your dr maybe for a more gentle version?

I took Triphasil for a couple of cycles, and it resulted in me being hospitalised with severe cholestatic jaundice for over three weeks. I can't take anything more than a progesterone only pill now, so DH has opted to get himself fixed after baby is born.

Some dermatologists will presecribe certain pill formulations to cure acne, pther formulations will make it worse.

I had mood swings etc on the pill & swapped to depo provera with no dramas & loved it especially as it stopped my period which was a joy for me.
Personally i would be getting back to the doctors & talking about what would be a better option as what works for one woman doesnt for another.
I have friends who are on the pill to stop acne with great success whereas others like me had it caused more acne than ive ever had, one of my friends had a really good side effect if you ask me heh she went from a bra sizing of 10A to a 12DD & they look fantastic almost like she has implants LOL wish id had that problem :p

I was on the pill for a year, and will NEVER go back on it. I was fine for six months, but then I got increasingly moody, needing to pee more and more frequently, and my boobs were SO SORE it wasn't funny. DH insisted I stop taking it. Went off the pill and was fine within a week. When I fell pregnant, none of the above symptoms were anywhere near as bad as while on the pill.
