I read all these posts with anticipation prior to the birth of my son. Little did i realise what was in store.
I was induced 5 days over my due date for various reasons. The night before i was so scared packing and re-packing my bag. It felt like we were going on a holiday (if only). When we arrived at the hospital at 7am, it was so scary to think we would be walking out with a little baby. While checking in i noticed my husband go a bit pale. He ran to the toilets... 25 minutes later:eek: he came out and told me his nerves gave him the runs (sorry tmi). To top it off there was no toilet paper! hahaha It was another man that had to come to the rescue.
Anyway after that drama we got settled in. I gave the middies my birth plan, which they didnt take much notice of. I wanted to avoid an epi and so i told then not to mention it to me unless i asked for it at least 3 times. My obs strongly suggested an early epi as the bubs was quite big and sitting posterior (ouch?).
8am - They gave me the gel but i did nothing, so straight onto the drip to induce labour. I had my twin sister with me and she made the mood great. She played great music and had mood lighting... It was one of the best mornings ever! Anyway about 12 noon they kept upping the dose.. at about 3 i started to feel mild contractions, i was thinking "geez is this al it is? I will breeze through it" Boy was i wrong. At about 5 o'clock the contractions hit me fast and hard. I was having them ontop of each other with no relief. I though i was going to die. The laughing gas did nothing but made me throw up.. After 1 hour of strong really bad contractions i found out i was only 2cm dialated!!! I nearly cried. At that point i gave up and begged for an EPI! I was told to get some sleep i would probably give birth late that night. I sent everyone home, including my twin sister for rest. 1/2 hour later i was examined and found out i was 9cm dialated!!! :smiliedance: I went from 2-9 in half an hour. I was in shock. She basically said"get ready were going to deliver your baby." She told me that the epi relaxed my internal muscles so i was able to dialete better. Thank god for the EPI!! I quickly rang my family and they made a mad dash back to the hospital. I had my mum, mil, twin and husband with me in the ward. It was a comedy routine i tell you. They kept bumping into each other. The pushing lasted 1 hour and was extremely hard. I couldnt feel much but he was stuck in one of the worst positions (posterior). I was physically exhausted. The cord was around his neck twice but finally my beautiful baby boy Andy Gregory was born at 7.05pm on January 20th. 8 pounds 1, 50cm. 4 internal stiches
I was not prepared for what happened after the birth so i think its important to share this. I was sooooooo exhaused that i basically passed out. Around me in the room was my big greek family, all celebrating. It was great but i couldnt enjoy it! My husband kicked them out. I remember them trying to get me to BF Andy but i was too exhausted. They left him in the corner of the room and i was totally overwhelmed. What a cute baby... who is meant to look after him? Oh Sh%$.. Its me? That night my husband fell asleep from exhaustion (ha) and i made my first attempt to go to the toilet  I could not walk. My flaps (sorry TMI) were so swollen i walked like i had rickets. The pain, oh the pain over the next few days, first poo etc.... WTF? but all worth it to welcome the most amazing little person into the world. I love you Andy Gregory. xoxoxoxo Good luck for anyone about to go through the journey. Remember to trust your own instincts and try not to be superwoman!
