Hi all!
My baby is now 6 months of age,and I've been using cloth nappies for her since she was around a month old.Her poos are slightly different now, after starting solids around a week back.I was just wondering upto what age people generally use cloth nappies for their bubs..
thanks in advance...

I used them until my kids were toilet trained (so just over 3), or outgrew them.....whatever came first.

Until they're toilet trained.

Alot of people think that once a bub's poo's change (from newborn to formed) or if they grow out of terry flats, then that is it - no more cloth and switch to disposables.

But if you think about it, what did our foremothers do before disposables?

There are different types of cloth nappies to suit all ages of bub/toddler.

If you're worried about messier nappies, have you thought about using a microfleece/polarfleece (or even a flushable) liner? Once a bubs poo is formed it literally rolls off of a micro/polarfleece liner and into the loo. Plus it makes cleaning the nappy a whole lot easier.

What type/s of cloth nappy/s are you using? Have you had a look at the modern nappies? ie Fitted, Pockets and AIO's.

My dd1 started wetting the bed again at 7 yrs old and I managed to get some cloth pullups - basically cloth is available to every age!

DD is 17mths and still in them :D She hates sposies...she is in them for now coz we are staying with a friend and DH wont let me wash nappies in someone elses machine. Our clothies are at mums and every time we visit the first thing DD does is go get a cloth nappy so I can put it on her, then she screams when I put her back in sposies to go home again. She used to react to sposies, but she seems to have outgrown that now.

If you want to continue using flats, perhaps look at getting some boosters for added absorbency. Or even just a few MCN for when bub is a bit older. Alot of ppl combine using flats and MCN for different times.

Try different folds of the flats as bub grows. The best fit and absorbency issues change over time. A bit of fiddling around and you should be right to see bub in cloth until toilet training:)

Nappy folds (http://www.thenappylady.co.uk/Advice/Instructions.asp?InstructionID=2) A tonne of different folds. I can't remember what I used to use, but I've seen people mention the Jo fold plenty of times.

MCN - Modern Cloth Nappies. Ozcloth nappies (http://www.ozclothnappies.org/info.html) This will help explain. Also have a look in the cloth nappy section at the stickies.

MCN are shaped like disposables, often fit like disposables, but are cloth and have velcro or snaps to do them up (some use snappis).

I use hemp and bamboo (both have excellent absorbency and antibacterial properties) fitted nappies (Baby Beehinds). I used terry flats up until 10 mths then got these and am still using them now that dd2 is 20mths. They're fantastic:thumbsup:

My kids have used them until they don't need nappies any more - at around 2 years for daytime.

I use eenees and fold nappy into a pad. This baby I'm using microfibre nappies and they're great. We haven't had any nappy rash and they're really absorbent!

We love cloth nappies!!!

Wander around the clothie threads and look at stores like The Wee Wuns, Nuture Nappies and Darlings Downunder to get a gist of what is meant by Modern Cloth Nappies  Ask any questions that come to you and feel free to ask about any brands to see what people think of them!
Don't be tempted by Ebay unless you get good reviews first.
I use fitteds (need a cover, wonderfull for nighttime) such as Baby Beehinds in bamboo, Very Baby Simply Nights, Cute Tooshies bamboo delights and Dream Eze.

A great pocket nappy (which have a built-in breathable/waterproof cover) are Green Kids- google them and have a look-see of these as well :)

I stopped using terry flats with DS when he was 6 months... it all got too hard. Plus I thought that I had to soak in napisan and use plastic pilchers etc

Now I have a Little Squirt attached to the loo for dead-easy spraying poop off the nappy into the toilet and have a stash of MCN that fit both my 1 year old DD and my DS who started out on terry flats 3 years ago!

DD will be in cloth until she toilet trains. Before I got Modern Cloth for the kids I had no idea that cloth nappies could be this easy, interesting, healthy and cute!

We started using modern cloth on bub at 8mths. He is now almost 18mths. He is interested in the toilet and being a big boy like his bro so we will use cloth forever (undies next).

My DD will be 2 next Sunday ( where'd the time go lol ) and she's still in cloth. And will be until she's TT. We're going away at Chrissie for 2 weeks. So many people have said are we going to use sposies if she's not TT by then. Said no we're in a unit with a washing machine and dryer, so why would I.

Mason is 22 months now and in cloth, and will be until toilet trained. I use MCN and flats and have found with the different fold needed to fit him now, I also boost and use a liner. Devyn will also be in cloth until TT, also a combo of mcn and flats.

Harper has been in mcn since one month old and will be til toilet trained. the only time i can see him being in sposies is when we go to Dubai for xmas, i think we will have too much baby stuff to take with us, without my lovely nappies :(
