Does anyone know if it's safe to have fillings while you're pregnant? I've got an appointment on Wednesday which has been booked in for months and I recently found out I was pregnant. Would the anesthetic they put in my gum do any harm to the baby?
Thanks :)
i have no idea.. but just wanted to add that i heard you couldnt go to the dentist when you were pregnant due to the x-ray.
Anyways, when i was newly pregnant, my tooth ached so bad that i was forced to go to the dentist (which im terrified of!)
i told them i was pregnant and they said that its perfectly ok to have a dental x-ray !?
apparently there not that strong??
sorry mum2ryan not really helping on your question though am i!!
hey :)
my OB said that all anesthetics used by the dentist are ok when pregnant (although - ensure that the dentist talks to you about it first - so they know you are concerned!!!) - my dentist would only give me a temporary filling - as it is in the back of my mouth and she wasn't willing to use the stronger filling when I was pregnant.
My dentist also assured me that after the first trimester dental X-Rays are fine... I guess cause they are focusing on your head and you wear that heavy vest thing???
good luck!! I HATE the dentist!!

Dentist visits are fine so long as they are aware of the pregnancy. You should also see your hygienist for a clean - bacteria from poor dental care is the same that causes M/C (reported from British Medical Journal). I checked with my Dentist and she agreed.
The only thing they didn't do for me is give me a flouride treatment :)
