do you try to find a toilet and clean it off first? or just chuck it into the wetbag as is, and deal with it at home?

I haven't had to do it often yet - thank goodness! But it would depend on where we were. So far it has onlybeen at mums, so i've chucked it down the loo. A few friends are a bit grossed out by cloth, so if at their place, i think i'd just chuck it in the wetbag, same as if we were out and there were no loos close.

I generally just pop it into the wetbag and deal with it at home.

Deal with it at home

I don't want to turn anyone off cloth

Haven't really had to deal with it yet but my plan also is just to deal with it later- if I was in the loos and it was fairly solid though there would be no reason why I couldn't just flush it then and there!

so you would just wrap it up like a sposie?

so i guess the question is...where is the best place to get a wetbag from?

For me, it depends where I am. If I'm at someones house, I'll pop it in the loo, otherwise just pop it in my wetbag.
And yep, just wrap it up like a sposie.

I love my jam tots zippered wetbag... I got it from nurture nappies I think.

I just wrap it up like a sposie, and put it in. That's what I get daycare to do too - I could be mean and ask them to flush it, but I don't mind dealing with it at home.

 I am mean then! I get them to tip it in the loo! It's what they should be doing with sposies anyway, so it's not really that different (although i know they don't do it with sposies)

It depends on where I am. If I have access to a toilet I flush, if not I wrap.

I just use a plastic bag.

They don't do it either, however, they have a collection thing that pics up the sposies, so they are not going into general rubbish. Olivia's poo's don't 'roll' off anything, so it is a bit involved to get them off the nappy! I would not be doing it without my little squirt!

What she said ^ lol.

I was just given a small wet bag by a lovely bubhubber the other day which will be great for Bump.

I still want a wet bag for when out & about though !

i some times use flushable liners (if i remember to put them on haha) so i take that off and pop it in the loo.
or just roll it up and put it in the wet bag.
i have a set of three wahmmies wetbags with zippers
they are great!

It's the same deal though. Do you flush the poo, or roll it up and bin it (albeit illegal;) ).

just as easy using a cloth nappy.
i hated using sposies when out then never contained DS pooplosions, and i always had to take a spare set of clothes for him.
never have the problem in Cloth.

i dont understand the use cloth at home but use sposies out thing.
its easy to pop it in the bag and away you go.
just chuck it in the bucket when you get home with all the other nappies that are in there.

I haveto use sposies as I am still in the process of building up my mcn... and no i dont flush the poo but i dont think we need to get into that huge discussion again! lol

Sheer Bliss

Off topic here - but I think it is slightly easier to use sposies when out. MCN take up more room in the bag to take out, so i am a bit worried i have enough bags for an overnight trip rather than a day trip. It's OK with just DD I use cloth on her when out, but now that DS will be in full-time cloth very soon (just gotta get more that fit him) i can't help but think about how big the nappy bag will be.

I am a worry wart also, and always pack 3 times as many nappies as i need. :D Once i get over that i'll probably be fine.

Blueberry Crumble
27-04-2007, 18:46
Yeah they do take up a lot more room than sposies- then you haveto carry the dirty ones around too. When i take ds out, i take the smallest bag

27-04-2007, 18:49
yeah, I am thinking that too, I only carry a couple of sposies on me in my so called handbag, and have a bigish nappy bag in the car if I need more. I was thinking though that if she is in a cloth nappy when I need to go out, I probably will just leave her in it, but if I need to change her while out, will put a sposie on her.... just thoughts, will have to venture into it slowly I guess.

I deal with it at home :D
I have a large zippered wet bag so just out it in there and away I go...

for those that just take it home and deal with it later, doesn't it get pretty smelly? Can people around you smell the nappies in your bag?

And are they tougher to get the poo off once home?

We are just starting to use cloth when out, and so far have only had to change DD once, it was only a wet nappy though. I really want to do cloth 100% of the time, with both children.

If you just use a plastic bag, how does that compare with a wet bag in regards to the above questions?

I thought the wetbags are supposed to contain the smell??

I prefer to flush, otherwise just in a wetbag. They hold in the smell very well. I don't think a plastic bag works as well in that respect.

I have a few wet bags but I would like a bigger one. You can knit one also.

Every now and then I eye off the wetbags around, but keep on using plastic bags fine and without any dramas at all

Using cloth while out is serioulsy EASY. No harder then sposies- and I have two in cloth that I changed several times today. I have no probs just squishing nappies into the bag before going out, and then putting them into the boot of the car/bottom of the pram in a plastic bag as they get changed. Haven't had any poopy ones to really worry about, but if there's a plastic bag in the bottom of the pram it fills up pretty fast with nappies, bibs, face washers etc and then I tie it off and that's it! No big deal. And FINALLY- no leaks while out since changing to cloth!!

 You ladies are awesome and I will try to stay inspired in cloth for next time around BUT to me a poopy filled cloth nappy got treated with all the respect and care of toxic waste. Dry retching just at the thought.:p

the wet bags contain all smells no problems
and no its not harder to get the poo off when we get home.

Oh so do I, seriously, I have a problem with poo at times. Thank heavens for my Little Squirt- I actually couldn't do the cloth thing without it:no: No way. Not with two in cloth and about 5 poos a day to deal with...
It's also a bugger when it gets into the folds of a terry flat, even with the Jo Fold at times. So when expecting a pooey nappy, I tend to choose a lightly stuffed pocket nappy. Thankfully Ronan's starting to become a little conscious of pooing in his nappy and has been like this in public for ages, so rarely do I have to deal with one while out... even Ariene holds them in until we get home!!

To answer the OP - I just fold it up like a sposie and deal with it at home - regardless of where I am because it's easier at home.

As for the above questions:

1. I use wetbags, so the smell is minimal

2. I've never had someone comment on an odour!

3. No, it's not harder to get rid of the poo when I get home because the wetbag :o keeps the poo fresh while keeping the smell contained. I know it sounds gross, but it's not! Promise! The poo comes off very easily regardless of whether I squirt it into the toilet immediately or after it spends a few hours in a webag

4. Cloth while out is VERY easy! The only extra thing you need is a bag in which to carry the wet/dirty nappy in! And I already carried those because I disposed of my bubbas sposies in my bin --> my baby's poo/wee = my responisbility.

I wish everyone else thought like that too.
I had a friend over recently who put her toddler's nappy full of poo in my kitchen bin :barf:

Having the nappy inside a plastic bag inside the nappy bag contains absolutely all smells. You'd have to be a sniffer dog to know what surprise is inside the bag!

And are they tougher to get the poo off once home?

The majority of the time I flush. Back when dd2 was doing newborn poo's, and I didn't have a toilet close by, I'd just wrap it up and take it home. Washed as usual and they all came out beautifully clean.

I have never used a wetbag - I can't see the point as plastic bags work for me. Despite using reusable bags, I seem to have an accumulation of plastic bags, so I figure I might as well use them for something.
I've never had a problem with plastic bags not containing the smell. I put the nappy in, tie the bag up, put it in the nappy bag, and no one is the wiser to what's in the bag. The only smell I get is when I get home and open the plastic bag!
