HI everyone,
Yes I've been absent for a while but as you have all heard baby Cooper was born last week 28/12/2005, 6 days over.
I started having irregular contractions on xmas day then they dissapeared, starting again boxing day and dissapeared. By boxing day night i had had enough and decided that i was ringing the hospital the next day to see if i could be induced sooner as my check up wasnt until the Thursday. Woke up tuesday morning and was having contrax which were every 5mins and lasting a minute i rang the hospital and as my waters hadn't broken and i hadn't had a show they told me to stay at home for as long as i could. I rang my sister at 1pm to let her know it was time to go to the hospital as the contrax were getting stronger. One hour after arriving at hospital and having an internal (3cm dilated) the contractions stopped so i was admitted to the maternity ward to play the waiting game as the midwife didnt want to risk sending me all the way home. At 4:30pm the contractions started again and by 8:30pm were coming every 3mins and lasting a min so they did another internal and i was 4cm so took back to the delivery suite and by 10pm i was back at the Maternity Ward as the contractions had stopped again. As i was having my waters broken the next morning they put me in a single room so that my DH and sister could stay with me.
Wednesday 28/12/05 7:30am the midwife come and took me around to the delivery suite and my waters were broken at 7:50am. The OB gave me 2hrs to see if my contractions started themselves otherwise i would be put on the syntocin drip. My contractions started at 9am, they were regular but werent getting closer or stronger so was put on the syntocin drip and was re-assessed. The OB advised that if the drip failed and there was no progress then i would be taken to theatre at 2:30pm for a C-section. The midwife kept upping the dose of the drip and by 12pm my contrax were every 2mins apart and lasting 45secs and boy were they intense. At 2pm i was back on the bed and started pushing. After 10mins (which felt like hours) of pushing they decided to do an internal as the babies head still hadn't crowned. As soon as they laid me on my back that was it baby Cooper was on his way out. At 2:19pm baby Cooper was born weighing 8lb 10oz, 53cm long and 35.5 head circumference. And then i realised i gave birth with no pain relief whatsover.
The After Dramas
About 20mins after Cooper was born i started feeling gushes like i was still losing fluid and had a really sore stomach. The midwife had a check and i was bleeding pretty heavily then she pushed on my stomach and i passed some clots. Another 30 mins later i started feeling very nauseous and dizzy and like I was going to faint. I told the midwife and she just told me to keep drinking next thing i knew i was waking up and had doctors and mmore midwives standing around me with one constantly pushing on my stomach and putting a cathedar in. I was passing more clots and haemorraging. I had lost a total of 1.6L of blood and that was only what they could ring out of the sheet. At 5pm the OB finally decided it was time to stitch me up as i had a 3 degree tear. So after more pain of being numbed down below he decided it was better that i went to theatre to be stitched instead. So off to theatre i went. I had a spinal block which surprisingly didnt hurt at all and was stitched up within 20mins. The 3 degree tear wasnt as bad as whatv they thought.
I have been home for 2 days now and recovering better then expected. Im still very pale after all the blood loss but starting to get colour back. Baby Cooper is breastfeeding really well and sleeping well too. I had a bit of the baby blues the day before i came home as everything that had happened after Cooper's birth had really started to sink in and DH keeps telling me that when i was taken to surgery he was petrified that he wouldnt be seeing me again as he was there right beside me when all the dramas happened. I just have to keep telling myself that the worse part is over and that baby and i are now home and enjoying our happy family.
I think i had my birthing experiences back to front. The easy one first and the drama one last.
I wish all the mums to be a better birthing experience then what you just read.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE.
