Hey this is just a hypothetical Q. for those working for the Govt. (like me)

I am currently on maternity leave and am taking 28 weeks at half pay then the rest of my year is unpaid etc

IF by chance i get pg before my maternity leave is up,

what happens?

Do i return to work for as long as i can work?

OR

Can i enxtend my maternity leave?

Will i get paid another 28wks half pay or not get paid at all?

This is strictly hypothetical Q as i dont plan on getting pg ever again LOL just curious.

If anyone can help answer my Q.s that would be great:yelclap:

Hi I worked for the NT government I don't think we were able to extend our leave if we will pregnant again on the 1 year plan if you thought you were going to have bub's all close together you took the 6 year option.

I think you can return to work but not sure if you would have to work for another year to be able to get paid mat leave again and if they would hold your job.

Sorry not much help am I.

I think it is different for each state government. I hear QLD is very good with their mat leave options!!

Hi there i work for the gov and i to took the 28 weeks at half pay but then went back to work but i could of then thanken all my A/L thast i had and then still had a year off so if i fell pg in that time i wouldn't of had to go back unless i fell pg at the end of all the time off then you can go back at reduced hours for 3 years then you have to go back to your normal hours..

I work for Qld govt. I took 12 months mat leave starting July 05. Got 24 weeks half pay. Since then I have taken 4 weeks rec and the rest as special leave no pay. I haven't worked there since. I'm now pregnant again and just yesterday put in my forms for another 12 months mat leave with 24 weeks at half pay starting when bubs is due, but I think I could have started it once I was 20 weeks pregnant. Cool huh!!

Im thinking the law should be the same - you are entitled to 12 months maternity leave - per pregnancy. I really dont know how this works if you fall again - say 3 months after giving birth. Even if you went back to work for a week - you are entitled to the full maternity time.

I work for local govt - you get 9 weeks paid leave - the rest is taken as unpaid.

If you work for the Federal Government...

You are entitled to two years off. So, after your paid leave you are entitled to leave without pay up to 2 years after the start of your leave. BUT having said that, if you are on unpaid leave, you have to return to work in order to qualify for more maternity leave.

A friend at work took a year off, went back for 2 months, got pregnant and is now on maternity leave again.

I am with the fed govt (ato) and you don't have to have returned to work to get paid mat leave again, but you can't have been going to be on unpaid leave.

So if you were due to return to work when you were 34 weeks pregnant you would be able to get full paid leave again, but if you were due to return when 38 weeks pregnant you wouldn't get paid for the first four weeks (you would only get 10 weeks mat leave, so 20 weeks half pay).

Having said that, I don't think that they actually enforce it, cos one of the women at my office got paid even though she would have been on unpaid leave. She cancelled it and came back to work for one month.

I work in state government for NSW and I got the standard 28 or something weeks half pay and then the remaining unpaid for a total of 2 years. A girl I work with had her baby maybe a month after mine (October 06??) and she returned to work in March 4 months pregnant. She will be entitled to leave again.
After I return to work I am able to go back part time until my child goes to school where I can go back to being full time as I was pre baby.
