(sp?)
Okay so it's been about 3 yrs since I was on the pill.... we just used condoms between babies.
Now I'm back to the point of deciding what to use again. We probably are finished having kids:rolleyes: However you never know in a few years we may decide to have another??
I dont really want to go back on the pill, mostly coz I know I'll forget to take it all the time ( he he he). I'm just wondering what others use & what people find works for them.
BTW we HATE condoms... very unromantic ;)
A lot of people are going with the implanion (is that what it's called?) You know the thing in your arm. But I've heard a lot of mixed reports about it....
And I dont overly like the idea of a marina!!
Your opinions and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks ladies!!:p
hey :)
I wasn't fussed on the idea of implanon either - I went with the monthly injections at the drs (Were they monthly?? or three monthly??? - every THREE months I think - it was a LONG time ago) - it was BEAUTIFUL ... in some people it completely stops your period (it sometimes stopped mine) ,.. cant recommend it enough!!!
lots of my special needs students are on the injections (as a period can be quite messy if not toilet trained) - the parents rave about it too..
I would love to go back to the injections - but due to cysts... have to be on the pill (buggar!!!)
good luck with your decision..
xx

Hi Becky
Firstly congratulations on the birth of your little girl!
After having Abby i was looking at the implanion, they do a few tests to make sure you can have it.. I heard alot of bad this about it, so i decided not to do it.. I would talk to a family planner agency or your doctor, on what would be the best contraception. Currently i am just on the pill, and it is suiting me. But we plan to try for another baby around August this year.. After that one DH is going for the cut!! so i wont need to worry about it.

I once asked my doctor about the injections and he said that it was good for women in third world countries where there is no other form of contraception available and they don't know how to take a pill every day. He then went on to tell me he wouldn't recommend it to his wife so that's when I decided to go back to the pill.

Becky,
Yeah it would be easier... He actuallys wants to get it done  . As we wont have to pay for it (defence will)
We use Billings which has the same success rate as the pill but it's free and has no side effects LOL.

So does my DH but I'm too nervous... what if I die & he remarries someone who wants kids??
I know, how morbid is that.... It's just that I know someone who got remarried & spent a fortune getting it reversed & they still cant have kids:( . People tell me I'm silly to worry about that all the time!! Maybe when he's 40!! That's still 15 years away though  !!!

Both my sisters have the inplant, and couldnt be happier. No periods at all. I was going to the doctors to have mine put in, even had the perscription but alas, was already pregnant LOL. But I'm definately having it after this little bubba is born :)

I know of 3 women who have used the 'billings' method and they have 8 children between them!!! You have to be soooo spot on with knowing your cycles with that method.
You just have to know your fertile signs since each cycle can be different. You can resort to nonhormonal means if you're not sure or you have to have it ;) But as I say, studies show repeatedly that it has the same effectiveness as the Pill which also comes with the proviso - when used properly ;) Plenty of babies are conceived on the Pill. It's common among my friends, none of whom have had unplanned pregnancies and many have used it for 10 years or more :)

Hmmm My cycles are sooo shocking!!!! I hardly ever ovulate... maybe 2 or 3 times a year!!! ( It took a little while ttc both times) However knowing my luck I'd fall preggers again!! LOL Just read a bit of that link... I'm a little confused how it works exactly... I'm not sure if i'd be a good candidate for it???
If you're a woman you're a good candidate ;) You can get a teacher, you can buy the books, you can talk to me, you can use their website. I have PCOS and I've used it to both conceive and not conceive. The only equipment you need is your eyes and your nerve endings :)
Having been with my DH for 12 years we've used a variety of methods - condoms (we both hate them), Depo Provera (+ve not having periods, -ve weight gain and I hate needles) and mainly have been on the pill, but I fell pregnant with my DD. I'm now using the Mirena IUD, a little uncomfortable when inserted, and I had light spotting for the first few days, but now no problems and no period (I used to get very bad period pain). I will probably have it taken out in October this year, if we decide TTC #2. Once we decide for sure that we don't want any more kids, DH is getting the snip. Z

The thought of Contraception is pointless for me, I ain't getting any!
But I never even considered to look at my options?
I decided to do a seach a found a site that has helped (in what not to get...)
http://www.sexual-health-resource.org/hormonal_birth_control.htm#norplant
Got to say, on most of them the side effects scare me more then another 12hours of labour - but Im a wuss :p

Becky, it might matter to you that both the injections and the minipill (I think this is right) stop implantation, not ovulation. In other words, you can still create an embryo (or whatever it's technical name is at that stage) but it won't actually implant. I'd suggest checking the Billings method out more - it's meant to be good once you figure out what you're doing!!

I heard some real horror stories about implants - my MIL works for Adelaide Uni Gynae Research/Repromed and told me only the other week that some horrific thing came about from them - when I speak to her next I'll post it here.
The problem I have with Natural Cycle contraception is that if you've got PCOS like me it's like shooting in the dark! :D
I also personally think that if your having issues with the Pill then try another one - there's like 50 out there. Although that's not too say that the Pill is for everyone :)
Anyway, why is it always the women? Men now can get contraception injections. Let them deal with it! It doesn't involve the snip either. This site by the Vic Govt is full of basic info to give ideas:

Hahahah JellyBean06 im with you on that one & the ultra thin ones are heaps better too get your hands on em ladies :D
But otherwise i was on Depo Provera awesome as you get an injection every 3mths so you dont need to remember a pill everyday thats when your more than likely to end up pregnant because if your not taking it at the right time everyday or get sick etc this affects it all just make your appointment with you doctor after having your latest jab for 3mths time & its done easy peasy ! :)
Not only did my period stop but i also lost weight on it & my mood was fine unlike the pill. I was also lucky it didnt affect my ability to conceive either in that i was off it for all of 2mths as i was going onto the normal pill in readiness to fall pregnant when we had bought our house etc when i fell pregnant !!! LOL Bubs was ready for this world & another 4 to 6mths was too long to wait :p
Carlyb - I had one doctor refuse to write me a script saying all that stuff eg. only mentally challenged women use them & i could add 1+1 couldnt i ? etc. I do understand there are side affects but there are many of the "normal" pills also i just think every woman needs to weigh up whats right for her including side affects etc. Plus i find it funny that pretty much all of my friends & ex work colleagues were on it also somehow i dont think we are/were mentally challenged i just think sometimes certain doctors have their own agendas.

Yup, even if I was on something, I'd still request a condom... the 'mess factor' is just a turn off for me :o
I had the implanon in before i had Indy. i hated it. i bled every day for about 9/10 months, then for the next year i bled most other days. i eventually took it out and planned to get pregnant anyways.
I also tried Depo shots. werent too bad, still stuffed me around a little but not as bad as the implanon (plus, in my opinion the implanon hurt like hell going IN !)
My friend got the Marina (IUD) sounds horrible to get! but she said it wasnt too bad, i think.
After i had Indy , i asked the doc (purely just curiosity) how old you have to be for the female sterilisation (sp?) and they said they would organise an appointment for that for me if thats the option i wanted! i am only 25 so i was shocked
my sister asked to get it done when she was 27 and with 4 kids and they said no way.
Anyways..... im in the same boat as you Becky. i dont know what to use. we also dont like condoms (but will if we have to) and im too forgetful on the pill!!!
but guess im running out of options

The doctor I saw was South African and went into detail about who would be the only candidates (as he saw it) to use it...he was quite nasty in his description of the type of women he thought should use it and didn't hold back on a couple of racist remarks IYKWIM?
I've just found that with the pill I was going "carnival freak psycho" every month and was an absolute horror to live with - my DH and my boys were frightened of me...that wasn't good.
I'm definately going to send DH up the shops to get those nudie condoms though - they sound like a hit!
We're not using contraception untill we're finished having kids, so at least 3 more kids to come before we think about contraception again :D I love it, not worrying about that side of things, just relaxing and letting nature take over, its a good feeling!
Of course its not everyone's thing but we're happy!:D

Wow thanks ladies...
will definately be looking into the minipill?? I'm a bit worried about that now...:o
LOL Becky !!
I cant believe your even thinking about having sex again !! hehe :p
I cant go there yet and Ethan is older than Ella !!
But when we do get back into it... (and we will) i will go on the pill again but condoms while breastfeeding (just cant trust the mini pill) and then the full pill once i am no longer breastfeeding.
Because i suffer from Endometriosis the pill is great, it "hides" all the pain with each period...
