OK, a few questions in one.
Does anyone use FOE for the entire edge of their nappy? How do you find it? Is there a particular kind you use?
Does anyone put in gussets? Does this help with leg leakage and wicking?
Thanks in advance. Pretty new to this but learning heaps from all of you. THANKS:yes:

I cant really help you, but I just wanted to say that gussets aren't common in MCN (maybe because they are a bit hard to put in) the only brand I've tried with gussets is the Nappylicious AIO. I think they'd be perfect for a newborn to contain those explosive poos

Gussets are the extra flaps in side the nappy - they are in all disposables...
Ive been experimenting with Gussets in my newborn nappies... I didnt have the right elastic when doing my last lot, but i do now...
I dont find them that hard to put in, but i also dont know how effective they would be as i dont have a newborn to try them out on (have one waiting for theirs but havent seen their mum)
I dont use FOE elastic at all in my nappies...
I dont use Gussets either, but i dont have any issues with leg leaks or wicking.

Thanks for your comments ladies.
I am experimenting at the moment, just trying to make some MCN's for my DS to try out before i start making for bub 3. I have put gussets in the last one that i made because i am trying to combat an issue with wicking. I can't seem to stop the outer from becoming damp. The gussets are good but now i think the nappy is a little wide in the crotch. Lucky i am only experimenting!
Perhaps my problem is with the soaker pad not being sufficient. Can you shed any light on how many layers and what you use.
u wont want too many layers sewn it or it will take forever to dry. Ive just made some fitteds out of sherpra and i just did outer & inner layer (no sewn in boosters) and a snap in booster of 2 layers but it will fold to make 8 layers so 10 layers in total

I am at 7 layers without any booster, but not using hemp or bamboo, only terry toweling & flannellet (sp) as that is all i have.
I sewed up MCN mark 3 last night with guessets and put it on DS this morning. After 2 hours there was wicking but one in one spot and i discovered that is where i had missed sewing together a couple of layers at the edge so it escaped through there. Will do another same pattern and check stitching hopefully i am on a winner!!

I've got a Nappylicious (with more on their way lol) and the gussets are PUL with FOE for the elastic. The gussets are one of the things i really like about them. Not sure if this has helped at all
Good luck mama bear

I have got and AIO with two snap in boosters (not really an AIO then). The edges are trimmed with FOE. I love it - gives a nice snug fit. I have never had any trouble with leaking.

Do you find that the FOE leaves a red mark on bubs skin around the legs?
