Hey I have a 8mth old baby boy who loves breastfeeding and is thriving as a result...unfortuatly he has also just gotten two more new teeth and is having a great time chewing everything including my nipples. I have tried nipple shields but he screams and refuses to drink with them on. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to make him stop. I really wanted to feed him until 1yr but my nipples are all cut and bruised and feeding him is like extreme torture. Has anybody been through this and have any suggestions... I'll try anything.

oh good its not just me ,thank you god cause i was starting to worry that i did something wrong.
dosent it just kill when they latch on on top of cuts and then bite the end of your nipple . i have tried everything ,my little one is 8 months as well and loves food and breast but just bites every time i put him on.
its made me feel so sad that after all this time we might have to stop because as much as i want whats best for him i also want to not be in pain .
i was planning to bf for at least ayear and really think its the best way to feed ababy but what can you do when your abay only takes one sides has mutilated the breat and wont stop biting even though you do everything everbody tells you to do.
i hope you will email me id love to know how things go for you both and i;ll let you know if i hear anything unusual sometimes those werid wifes tales work (sometimes they dont :) :)
i hope all is well with you take care
my email address is : owl135@hotmail.com email anytime sometimes its nice to hear other people are going through the same thing . :p

hallelujiah (or however you spell it!) - it's not just my baby!! My DD has about 5 minutes of good drinnking, but then decides to have a bit of fun and bite down hard! She only has her 2 bottom teeth, but that's enought to cause excrutiating pain!! SHe also knows now that it's a no-no, as I have taken ppl's advice and said 'no biting' (or slightly shouted in shock sometimes....which makes her cry for a few seconds...very sad :( ...but now she does it as a game, by biting down halfway, waiting for me to say "No!" and then un-latching her grip, smiling, latching back on, gauging my response and doing it all over again. If I ignore her, then she really bites down. Such a cheeky little monkey! Grrrrrr

Anyone else's treat it as a game???

Hi,

My 8 month old thinks it is the funniest thing when she bites me. The HN I see said that because of the way their mouth is when breastfeeding that if they bite then they are not serious about wanting any milk. I decided to test this theory and Grace now doesn't get anymore if she bites.

Mind you she has now discovered that when she has finished a feed that if she quickly grabs my nipple and squeezes this causes an instant reaction from me as well and is almost as funny as biting.

AAHH Bless them!!!

Cheers
Paula

I am so pleased that I am not the only one, who has very sore nipples. I was planning on bf until she is 1, but not sure now.

I too have tried nipple shields, but Brianna, 10mths, (is just getting her 6th tooth) won't drink with them on. I have also tried to stop her feeding when she is biting, but she just gets very upset and starts crying. I am sure that its not a game for her, she is unaware that she is biting me. I really am unsure of what to do, but would love to read any successful ways to save the nipples from further pain!!
