Hi I am only at 4weeks 5days and was wondering what morning sickness was like for most of you out there? I was wondering if it hit some of you before the 6 week mark that is average? What was is like? Just nausea, or vomiting.

how did you deal with it? Were you working? How did you handle it then?

I am not going to tell work right away, unless I have to. As I am still under probabtion (for about two more weeks anyway) and i don't want too much fuss just yet, just incase.

Please give me all the information you can. Thanks;)

There's a huge variation in how women experience nausea and many cultures who don't experience it at all. It's definitely a part of the cultural baggage for western women around pregnancy though. I had constant massive nausea from around 11am peaking at night with my son, only threw up a few times though. This time it's a lot less and still mostly at night. The major hormone surge around 7-8 weeks is when a lot of women start to feel off. It ended for me at 16 weeks last time.
There are also lots of things you can do to help alleviate it.

My experience? I felt a little nauseous for a couple of days, there was some food I couldn't stand the thought of, and I was really, really tired. That was it. So don't expect that you WILL get sick - many don't. Unfortunately, of course, others get sick and stay that way 24 hours a day for the whole 40 weeks. Keep your fingers crossed that you are one of the luckier ones.;)

Good idea not to say anything before probation. You'll be glad you waited! In both my first and second EP's, they happened while in my probation period and each time the co I worked for at the time asked if I was 'healthy' enough to do my job. Ultimately, it wound up with me leaving each of those jobs (something I REALLY regret).

I started getting M/S at a day or two before 6 weeks - munching a couple of plain arrowroot biscuits helped a lot, as did the Blacmores Morning Sickness formula.

It started at about 8 weeks (I think) with O and this time at about 5 weeks.
I think it really varies and like Theresa (the lucky bugger) said some don't really have any at all!:)

Hey there fellow pregnant woman :D I'm about 7 weeks now (I think  ) and the last 4 or 5 days has been pretty awful. I've been exhausted, having a couple of sleeps during the day (previously unheard of behaviour by me) and feeling like I was in a turbulent plane.

Suddenly this afternoon I have felt better. HOORAY HOORAY.

I read that ginger can help ease nausea, so dh went off to the supermarket for me and bought some giner nut biscuits. Not sure if it's them that did the trick, but I'm eternally grateful that I don't feel sick at the moment.

How have you been feeling?

hey scrapie -

I just wanted to say that I never got morning sickness (my mother was diappointed - she really wanted me to see how I had made her feel 27 years ago!! ) .. I kept expecting it... but only got the odd tummy 'wave' when smelling something (such as fresh seafood... hot corn... )

I have heard that fruit tiggles help (I always had some in my pocket in case of odd smells- I figure they were yummy and wouldn't hurt!! :) ) and ginger apparently does help -you can buy yummy ginger bears from the lolly section,.... they are made in bundaberg... if you dont like the strong ginger...

Hi Lara,
I started at 9 weeks and only stopped at about 26 weeks. From about week 9 to week 15 or 16 I felt sick all the time. The only thing that helped was nibbling on craker biscuits all day. I couldn't let my stomach empty or that was the start of the vomiting. I had to eat 2 before I got out of bed, 1 as I made my way to the shower and another 2 after my shower. I also couldn't bend over to wash my legs or feet had to bend my knees and wash them that way. I did throw up alot but usually afterwards I felt okay for a few hours.
I ended up using Blackmore morning sickness tablets which were really hard to swallow but worth it. I have also heard great things about these wrist bands you can get that are for sea sickness. Apprently the work a treat. Having Ginger also helps. In tea, biscuits and it's in the blackmore tablets.
Good luck and use positive thinking that you won't get it.

!st time round: I was ill.... VERY ill!! From about 6 - 20 wks!! It was aweful!! I threw up everyday, often all day!! There were a couple of times when I couldn't even hold a dry cracker down:( . Plus I was working full time (as a HAIRDRESSER), so you could imagine that running off to spew all the time was not so flash for my clients:o LOL!!

2nd time round: Not so bad!! Was still sick - vomitting too, but only til about week 16. And it was much more bearable... I think that not working at all helped a lot though. I wasn't smelling all those nasty fumes!! Plus I could lay down when I needed to!!

Second time was a girl... wonder if that made a difference?

With my first pregnancy it began on the 13th February and lasted until 10th September!!! Jesse was born on the 11th - every morning it was exactly the same. I'd get up and spend about 1/2 hour in the toilet vomiting bile. I tried everything for it but the thing that worked best for me was to not fight it - just set aside 1/2 hour, put up with the watery eyes and the stomach muscles heaving and then get on with my day! It was exactly the same with Lucas. Jesse was 2.5 at the time and every morning when he saw me he'd make vomiting noises "mummy's gonna 'bomit' again!' he'd announce to the house.
I recently went to the dentist and the acid has damaged my back teeth...see what these boys have done to me!!!!:p

Well i dont know whether you really want to hear my story but here goes ....
I started with feeling off around 6wks or so but was no biggie then i was vomitting 3 to 4 times a day by 8wks which then turned into me vomitting all day & nite every day up until the 8th month to which i had of & boy did i love it !!! Anyways i hit the 9mth to have it only start back with avengence !!!! Was horrid & then i went on to vomit pretty much all the way through my labour !!!! I had what they call severe morning sickness "hyperemesis" (sp?) was almost hospitalised a few times but fought it every time as i hate hospitals but i got so bad i couldnt even keep water down & try doing that when you need to have your u/s done
I tried all the remedies i could get my hands on ginger, sea sickness bands, maxalon tablets, eating a biccie before getting out of bed, teas, a special remedy from selected chemists called pulsatilla & even maxalon injections as i couldnt keep tablets down like herbal remedies.
I just resolved myself to it & kept towels & pillows in the bathroom as thats where i spent most of my time otherwise i carried a bucket around the house & when i went out or if i did at all i ended up carrying plastic bags with me so i could be sick. But as ive said by 6mths i got over being embarassed as i vomitted everywhere :o on the street in shopping centres on buses & trains was so bad sorry probably TMI.
Will shut up now heh :o

Hi Scrapie - yay again! I was like CarlyB, very sick from early on, right through. Simple things could make me ill - and they were both boys! I long dearly for a little girl to test that theory though! I hope you feel better soon. I can't offer any advice because I didnt take anything either time. I heard ginger is good - but the smell of it made me sick!!:) :)

I didn't know I was pregnant until about 5 weeks, but I don't think anything started til about 7 weeks.

I remember one night I hadn't eaten much all day, and was starving and a bit sick by dinner, had a pizza and... it didn't settle :( lol
-Wasn't til later someone told me I should eat even when not hungry and feeling sick so less chance of throwing up later.

I was only sick one other time and that was in the morning and I couldn't do anything about it.

I remember two things that never failed to make me sick... Smoke and eggs. My partner at the time was living his (awful) aunty who couldn't cook, and she made this terrible quiche thing (I think it was supposed to be a quiche, but never quite made it to that status)... When I was walking up the stairs to the apartment I could smell it half way up, and was almost sick. I had to sit down for about 20minutes, go in, and say "Im off!" and leave again.
(they didn't know at the time I was pregnant).

I was also working (got up at 3.30am, start work at 5am) so on my drives to work I always had a packet of water crackers on my lap and by the time I reached work they were finished - that's when I started on the second packet!
Seemed to work.

I sadly had to tell work about my 'condition' because work involved standing for 8hrs, heavy lifting etc... they said they were going to find a new position for me, took them a month to tell me they didn't have anything... they gave me the option to resign, quit or stay in the harmful position!
Needless to say I resigned in a bad way, burnt that bridge and left them in the lurch while I took off my last two weeks on holidays!

Hey Scrapie!

My morning sickness started at around 6 weeks and I think that it might be starting to go away now (I'm 10 wks today). I haven't actually thrown up at all, but just feel sick on and off throughout the day. At first it got worse in between meal times when I started to get hungry, and as soon as I ate it pretty much went away. But now it seems like it gets worse after I've eaten!

I'm on holidays from work at the moment, but I have to go back tomorrow which I'm not really looking forward to. I'm going to miss my afternoon naps!!

Lou I am almost 5 weeks and I am enjoying my afternoon naps too, also not looking forward to returning to work tomorrow :(

The only good thing is that they are looking into letting me work from home due to the distance I travel :) They don't know I am pregnant yet, and I will not tell them until I have to.

I am 9 1/2 weeks now and have been getting morning sickness on and off since about 6 weeks. In the beginning I wasnt actually sick or even gagging I jus had a nauseous feeling. It started getting a lot worse at 8 weeks when my mouth wouls start watering and I was feeling pretty sicj until about midday, I bought some blackmores morning sickness tablets which are mainly ginger. They seemed to help a bit. This week has been a bit different though, I feel a bit sick on and off throughout the day, but dont really get much warning when I am going to be sick, which I find a bit worrying because what if I am out!!! yesterday, I was tidying the kitchen when I started gagging and had to run to the toilet with my hand over my mouth- close call!!
Then the other day, I had cravings for a roast dinner which I spent ages preparing only to lose the dinner within minutes of eating it - felt really cheated, same thing happened with another meal I ate this morning. The worst thing for me has been the fact that I am constany hungry but there is nothing that I actually feel like eating! I am hoping that things start to die down a bit soon, but after reading some posts here - I am no complaining, it could be a lot worse!

I started feeling off right from implantation until a week or so ago (I'm 11 1/2 weeks now). I started taking Elevit and that helped me heaps! I still carry Maxolon around with me just in case. I got mainly dizzy spells and horrible nausea.

My morning sickness (24hr a day sickness) started well before I even knew I was pregnant, both times. So I'd say at around 2-3 weeks, if not earlier. I had nausea all the time, broken up ever half hour or so by vomiting. I couldn't keep anything down, even water was a struggle.:(
I was told by my GP in my first pregnancy that it is caused by a particular pregnancy hormone, and it was a sign of a strong pregnancy. So I guess I had two very healthy pregnacies;)

Hi Scrapie,

With both my pregnancy's i had morning sickness from 6 weeks, as soon as I opened my eyes in the morning i felt nauseous and then I would vomit, i usually started feeling better by about 10am. But of course I m/c both those little angels so i can't comment on how long I would have had it.

Nothing worked for me to help it though, I tried blackmores morning sickness tablets, eating something first thing, even maxalon didn't help.

Cheers

littlepickle,
the only thing I have actually enjoyed eating and kept down for the last two weeks is juicy white peaches! that's it. Now I hve a 'script for maxolon and took one last night and this morning I feel at least I am not gagging on my own saliva.
has anyone else tried maxolon?

It is my first pregnancy and from about week 6 to week 20 was really sick up to 10 times a day. Hubbie got used to me rushing past him in the morning to be ill and eating dinner then throwing up straight afterwards. At the worse even a glass of water made me sick. Is better now am 28 weeks am sick say 4/7 mornings first thing but then fine rest of day. Snacking does help (any excuse) if I get hungry at all am sick. DH is trained he knows the signs and encourages me to have a snack. I have found that my appetite has decreased loads since being pregnant so figure small dinners and snacks is ok about the same as I would normally eat. Only thing is he has put on weight cos I give him my leftovers! Have said we can ask the midwife how HE can get his figure back after the pregnancy :D ! Think I need to cook less.

Zac, was a different story, started at like 5 weeks, and ended at 39 weeks. I lost 10 kilos being p.g with lil zachie cause of how sick i was

Elizadee, I did not have morning sickness untill 8 weeks or so, even then if I had enough rest I would be alright, but god forbid I had a night shift, then I would have nausea all night, and likely to trow up a couple of times early (4 am) in the morning, but I actually did not mind it as it kind of gave em reasurance that my hormones are high, hence baby is OK, as weired as that sounds, for a little while, I was praying for m/s, so I suppose it differs quite a lot from one person to the other, but if you feel really sick an dwon't be able to hid your m/s perhaps, you can take a couple of days off on leave (sick or annual or what ever you are willing to sacrifice)

reagarding telling work, I would not even worry about telling them untill at least past 12 or 13 weeks, as you can always use the excuse that you were not sure the baby was viable, unless you are stuck like me with a poison in your throut, even then I manged to get away with it till now(well my branch manger knows but not my immidate mamnger), I am not going to tell them untill I am confident it is starting to show, for similar promotional resons,(hoping to get one before I go  )

Good luck and enjoy your PG :)
