Hi everyone. Before my DS was born I did a beauty therapy course for a career change. But now I don't want to work full time because I want to be a SAHM.
I was thinking of doing a home based beauty business (for extra cash) but friends & family are putting me of telling me I won't get much business because people won't feel comfortable coming to a strangers home. (which I understand)
Can I get some open opinions from everyone? Would you go to someone home for a wax?
Thanks.....
What is the difference between going to a stranger's business and a home? If you live in a smallish community people would probably like the chance to go somewhere that isn't charging the earth because you aren't paying overheads on a business. I have used therapeutic massage services run from a home - as long as you have an area set up that is obviously your "business" and don't just have people sitting in your kitchen while dinner is on the stove, I think it is worth trying. Keep it professional and people will respond that way in my opinion. Just remember that you will still need someone to look after your baby while you are working - motherhood is a full time job and we can't do two jobs at the same time - bad for business and bad for OH&S. If you can get that side of it sorted - I would go for it.

yes give it a go.
Family and friends should be supporting you! They can be your marketers, people will come to your house if they know you are Amy's sister's cousin (therefore not a stranger).... It won't take long for word to get around and you build up a clientele.
Good luck.
PS. Yes, I preferred to go to a place up the road for my haircuts, cheaper and easier to take Jnr. She was a friend of a friend.
I would prefer to go to someones house...especially since I would have to take at least my youngest child with me.
What services would you be offering?
I'd consider driving the 20-30mins from Browns Plains to Jimboomba to come see you, rather than going to the local places, depending on what you were offering.

I would feel so much more comfortable in someones home rather then, I guess I'd call them shops!
I reckon it could be a hit as long as the home has a welcoming feel, not too 'personal' I guess ( like those Ikea displays... welcoming, professional, family orientated etc)
The best way to see if it'll work for you, set yourself up for it, prepare etc, Get your family/friends to drop around, check it out and explain that it'll be the 'friendly' side of service - they'll come around to the idea if they see it, they are probably also just looking out for you in the long run :)

Hi,
I think that's a great idea. Just make it as professional as you can by using an area of the house that can be especially set aside for this purpose and charge a bit less than the salons.
For me, price is the issue as well as expertise (which comes over time) but yes
absolutely, I would go to someones house, if they could deliver all those things.
