Hi all, I am TTC & freaking out a little because i am alone here without family:gloomy: ...need to know which hospital is better Westmead or Hill Private? Also what is the process after u do a home pregnancy test? Do you go to your GP for a blood test? & then what ? how do you go about getting an OB...& what kind of questions do you ask the OB to figure out if he/she is the right one for you. A lot of the information here tells me that you have to book one before u are 5weeks preggo:confused: . I would like a private hospital with private rooms....& a VB ...Whew so many things to worry about. I'd appreciate anyone with helpful suggestions!!

Hey there neighbour!!

I live in Winston Hills and am currently pregnant with bub #2. For my first, I had a ceasar at Westmead Public and I hated it. They were ok whilst I was in labour and pretty good looking after bubs in intensive care - but as for my care after the birth, it was pretty bad. I even had to clean my own stitches etc as the nurses there would take hours to come around and check on you. I needed pain killers every few hours and they would just ignore me! Anyhow, I started paying private health insurance pretty soon after that and am now booked into give birth at Hills Private. My Ob, Peter Bell, from Castle Hill totally recommends it and because it's smaller, you get that one-on-one care. I just found Dr Bell in the yellow pages and liked him from the start. if you need any more info just PM me. Good luck!

I went to Westmead Public. I ended up with a c/s but irregardless if I had to birth in a hospital again I would go back there.
They're practically just a facility, yes you do need to teach yourself how to breastfeed, clean your own stitches, but I still prefer the idea of a midwife than an Ob (unless I was having twins or something extraordinary I don't think an Obstetrician is nessesary. Birthing babies is a midwifes job!)
I don't know about Hills Private though I can practically see it from my house - its a little shabby :o

hi,
i had my bubby in hornsby.
i couldnīt get my head around this HUGE "factory" (aka westmead :) ) - blacktown was my 2. choice and the hills...( i was there once as an emergency during my pregnancy- i didnīt like it)

edit: i was under shared care with my gp and the hospital, up to week 28. so all the tests and stuff nec. my gp did- which was quite nice...

thats just my 2 cents....:geek:
good luck!

From what I've heard Hills is better than Westmead Private - apparently they overbook in the maternity ward at Westmead Private. However my suggestion would actually be the SAN at Wahroonga, where I had DS. I live in Castle Hill and it took me no longer to get there than it has on other occassions taken me to get to Westmead, and I had a fantastic experience there. I ended up being hospitalised for 4 weeks before bubs was born and they looked after me so well.

BTW, my friend has had both her babies with Dr Bell and she said he's lovely and great at the delivery. He gets the husband very involved as well. (Don't think he goes to the SAN though)

I was told by my gp that there is no such thing as a false positive on a home pregnancy test, so if you have one you don't need a blood or urine test from the doctor. There can be false negatives if the hormones aren't strong enough yet though.

Once you are pregnant you get your gp to write you a referral to an OB. They might be able to suggest some good ones. I wouldn't recommend Dr Blumenthal though. I had him and he was horrible.

I quite liked my experience at Westmead Private too.

Either Westmead Private or Hills Private, both are great hosptials.
