It seems so long ago, and yet such a short time ago that I was in the ttc threads, now look, wow..
I had a great pregnancy, no dramas, at the 20 week u/s we found out that we were having a little boy, and we were rapt, we already had 3 girls, and 1 boy, so Callum was getting his long awaited brother, and Mum and Dad were estatic to get another boy after all this time.
My due date came and went, and I wasnt expecting anything to happen, I didnt feel ready, didnt think he was ready either, my last dd was 13 days overdue, so I was thinking around the same timeframe.
At 7 days over, I had a sweep, and found out I was 2cm dialated, and very ripe, and 1/3 thinned out, and cervix had come down, so thought we were close.. the sweep was meant to get things going, as we all thought he was going to be as big, if not bigger than last dd, at 4.6kg, the sweep did nothing, so we just soldiered on..
At 13 days over, we had another sweep, and went in for monitoring, the internal showed I had regressed to 1cm dialated, and not going anywhere, but the monitor showed contractions of 7 minutes apart, but I wasnt feeling them very much..
Over the next couple of days, I was going in and out of labour, getting contractions, then stopping, it was very frustrating, as the other kids all came very quickly, all around 1-3 hours and very straight forward, but all posterior..
I was booked in for gels for the 19th , and then waters breaking on the 20th, his time was up..
On the 18th at 16 days over due, from around 5ish, I started to feel funny, and suspected that it was finally starting, so I organised for the kids to go to bed early, and tried to relax, and wait for the contractions to start. Finally, around 7ish, they did, but werent painful, or uncomfortable at all, except for one or two as we were leaving to go to the hospital.. As my Dad and s/mum arrived, we surprised her with an invitation to come, which of course she jumped at, and Dad went in to watch the sleeping kids..
By the time I got to the Birth Centre at 11.15pm, the contractions had really slowed down, and lost their ouchieness..
When I got there, the midwife asked if a student could be present, I said of course, and in walked this man, omg, shoot me, lol, and he had never seen a birth before, this was his first, let me tell you, and probably his last, too..pmsl
I had an internal at 11.40pm which showed that I was 4cm, and the midwife said I was 'too smiley' to be doing anything useful, and I should hang around for an hour and see what happens, and then go home if nothing eventuated..
At 11.55pm, as the midwife was leaving me to get dressed, I went to the loo, and the second I sat down on the loo, I felt this strange urge to push, it was weird, not bear down, but just give a little push.... At that push, my waters broke, it was a massive gush, no leaking here, just like someone dropped a big bucket of water in the loo, it scared the bejessus out of me, and I screamed, lol, the midwife came running in, as she thought Id slipped, and I cried out that my waters had broke, she quickly asked me to stand up, so she could check to see if it was clear, it was, and she said, 'well, it wont be long now', at that time, my DH and s/mum had gotten in there, along with another middie, it was very cramped..
It didnt take long for the first contraction to come, about 2 minutes, I reckon, and with that first real contraction, came the urge to push, which I said to the midwife, omg, Im pushing, and she said to just go with it.. I learnt with all my other babies, that the weaker the push, the longer it takes to get out baby, so I just pushed with all my might, on that toilet, and he started crowning immediately, Im pushing, and yelling to DH to get the camera, and the midwife is telling me to stop worrying about the camera, lol..
At that time, the midwife was telling me to stop leaning on the back of the seat as I was going to break it, she even took my hand off it, lol, I kept holding back onto it. (later she told me she thought I was going to break it, and the b/c would be out of action).. After the first big all might push, they told me to stop, and start panting cause he was coming too quick, so I tried, and he came anyway, cause I couldnt stop pushing, I felt the head, and it was amazing feeling the head out..
After the head was out, I had to move to the front of the loo, so his body could be born, which was only 1 more push, with a waterfall of waters wetting everyone in the room..
I started freaking because his cord was around his neck twice, and he wasnt crying, but the midwife said he was ok, it was only loose, and thats why I kept going in and out of labour all week, he was going up and down, like a bungie, but he was ok..
He was born at 12.05am (on my camera the time is 12.03, lol..).. So all in all, my labour and delivery was around 8 minutes, fully dressed, and on the toilet, :o
I stayed in the B/U for 9 hours, then went home.
2 days later, we named him Christian Judd Bain, he weighed 3.880kg, 8lb 9oz, and is totally adorable!
