View Full Version : Day Sleeps AHHHH!!!!
HELP!! (AGAIN!!)
Jack is a fantastic night sleeper - 13 hours usually with one feed at around 4 am.
However his day sleeps have become non existant....The most he will sleep is 1 hour between feeds but today it was only 40 minutes at a time. He is impossible to re-settle and is usually smiling when I go in to try....
He can get quiet grizzly towards the end of the day
Is this enough sleep? He's only 9 weeks old.......

Hi, by the sounds of it his getting the most sleep at night and might not need so much during the day. DD at that age would only sleep for around 30min-1hour if i was lucky and was still having 2-3 feeds at night.

It could just be a phase. At around 7 weeks old DD went a couple of weeks hardly sleeping at all during the day. Just about drove me crazy but it passed and she then went back to having proper day time naps. Just enjoy the extra time with your bub I say. :hugs:
Thanks Ladies
I hope it is a phase.... it's a long one though. Been going on since he was 5 weeks!
We've been going for an afternoon walk which helps him at least get 20 minutes sleep so he's not to cranky
My Ds only does 40 minute naps throughout the day....he's 6 months old now but he's been doing that for quite some time. He also won't re-settle and smiles when I go in and try.
He sleeps 10 hours at night though.
He seems happy enough so I just let it be.

You said he's only sleeping for a short time in between feeds. How much is he sleeping in total during the day? Are you trying to follow a basic "feed, play, sleep" routine? If you wear him out with play/stimulation (appropriate for a 9 week old of course!)... he may sleep longer.

Some days I'm lucky if he sleeps a total of 4 hours during the day...sometimes it's much less. Been trying the sleep, feed, play routine...he will go down ok but never stays asleep for much longer than 40-60 minutes
Today was a shocker he was waking up happy but then 10 minutes later he was grumpy again from being so tired....he fights to stay awake!

Hmm... I can't see this lasting forever but for now, my advice would be to stick to the "feed, play, sleep" routine, make sure he gets plenty of stimulation and fresh air during the play phase and persist with trying to re-settle him if he wakes after 40 minutes. If, as you say, he wakes up happy but is tired again 10 minutes later then he is not sleeping for long enough.
I always had a lot of trouble getting DD to sleep when she was little - she'd just cry and cry but she wasn't a cat-napper as your bub is, so perhaps some mums of former cat-nappers will have some good advice for you. :hugs: I know it must be a difficult and challenging time for you.
Thanks alanasmum :)
I'm hoping it will pass soon....two weeks ago I had two day in a row where he slept for 2-2.5 hours during the day. This week he is screaming as soon as I put him down in the cot  He is also really clingy and will cry if anyone else holds him for too long. I'll just have to ride it out and see what happens

Just one final thing.... have you thought about a quick trip to the doctor to rule out ear infections etc? Might be worth a try.
