I had been in pre labour all week and had lost my plug a week ago (I was unsure of it at the time though!)
17th April 2007 36 weeks 5 days: Had enough of these pre labour pains, went to inlaws first thing that morning and cleaned and scrubbed their house (nesting lol)
We did groceries that day, and got home in the evening.
Went to bed after 10pm, woke at about 11pm and my waters had broken in bed.
Woke up Justin and called the pregnancy assessment centre to tell them I was on my way. I was warned my labour would be fast and becase of the prior csection I had I was told to go to hospital as soon as anything progressed (waters breaking etc)
Justin's Dad came and stayed the night as the girls were tucked into bed asleep.
We got to the PAC at 12 midnight, the hooked my to the machine and traced HB and contractions. Contractions irregular but feeling stronger than during the week. My waters kept leaking and I was in such a mess, it was sooo gross!
They took bloods and because I had my GBS test done the day before, results were not in yet so they had to put me on an IV and treat me just incase. They tried to do an internal using those speculum things but omg it hurt so I told them to stop, I didn't care how far along I was at this stage as I already knew I was at least 3cm from a check up earlier in the week.
So they moved me from the PAC into a labour room at about 1.30am and as we were walking to the room I had my first strong contraction. We got settled into the room, took a last belly shot and a few others and then we went for a walk around the ward in the hope to get things moving along.

And here I am having a strong contraction lol:

So after a walk around the ward the pains were coming every minute apart and very strong, I decided to hop into the shower for my back. I was soo exhasuted already, I had not slept in weeks and ym body was really not in the best frame to be labouring lol! I had an allergic reaction to the iv antiobiotics so they had to stop that. (found out the next morning I did not have the GBS anyways so what a waste and pain in the *** that was lol)

I found that with every contraction I needed to stand up and rock side to side and make a deep groaning noise, breathing deeply and Justin deeply rubbing my back.
After an hour of this I was just to weak and tired so we got a mattress on the floor and a bean bag for me to slump over. I would fall asleep for a minute and then another contraction would come. I started to develope an infection so they could not do any internals. The first and last one was at about 3am I think and showed me to be only 4cm.
So after labouring all night long, the sun finally rose and still no baby! The pains were excruciating, coming one right on top of the other without a break and lasting for almost 2 minutes. At 8am a Dr came in and was telling me it was time for me to have a csection, that my body would not cope anymore with pre labour and the infection etc. Justin said but her contractions are one on the other and I said NO, I am NOT having a csection I AM in established labour. So she did an internal and found me at almost 7cm. She said to the midwife but she is too quiet! She asked me had I had an epidural? I said no, I have had nothing at all. She was pushing for me to have one, but I refused, and she tried to get me to have pethadine, I refused that too.
How about a panadol I asked LMAO!!!! What good what a panadol do now!! Silly me LOL
Anyways the midwife said try some gas so to shut them all up I had gas for about an hour and half but once the baby was almost crowning I couldn't stand the gas anymore, I needed all my attention then.

At about 10am the midwife got the birth table ready, broke the bed and I gave permission for a student to be there. This was her 4th vaginal birth (lots of csections she said she had been to) and first birth without drugs. So she was just wrapped that I let her in.
I said to the midwife what are you doing? She said getting ready for you to have your baby! I asked is it time to push? And she said push whenever you like! So I said to her, should I take my undies off? LOL they were still on!!

So I started to push!! It took quite a while for her to crown and we later found the cord was wrapped around her, so the midwife had to get that over. Baby wasn't responding. The midwife looked me in the eye and said Kristy, listen to me now, you have to push this baby out right now. And next thing I know Justin and my sister were saying push babe, push we can see her head, push you can do it!! So I pushed but her head came out and not her shoulders, she was stuck! The midwife asked Justin to push the emergency button and next thing the room is filled with extra staff and the midwife had to grab her by the head and PULL her out fast.
Ebony was born at 11.07am on 18th April but was not breathing or responding.

She was so blue and they cut the cord right away, Justin missed out.
They ran her to the table and worked on her.

I was crying my baby my baby why isn't she breathing I was soo scared. And then she let out a cry!! Oh what a wonderful sound that was!

Once she was stable she was placed skin to skin under a heating lamp thingy over us both and we got to enjoy our first cuddle and she even took to my breast a little after that!
It was an amazing, painful, tiring and emotional experience but I just loved every minute of it. Mind you, don't want to do it again lol! I did it!!!!!!!!!!
