Hi
My bubba had her 2 month vaccs yesterday. This morning she has woken up with a bit of a cough and congested nose and a temp of 37.1.(pretty sure 36.5 is normal??) Does anyone know if this is a common reaction to vacs or if its unrelated and bubs has caught a bit of a head cold? I'm a first time mum and don't want to be a panicky pete and run to the doc at first sniffle, but don't want to be complacent either!!
I have given her panadol and settled her down for (hopefully) a sleep. Any advice would be appreciated. This is the first time she has seemed unwell and it's not very nice:(
I've never noticed my kiddies getting sick after injections, but running a bit of a fever is not unexpected. But if she's got a cough as well, it makes me think that she may have picked up some other bug (and that the fever may not be due to the injections?).
Giving her panadol is great and if you manage to keep her reasonably comfortable and the fever under control with that, there's prob no need to take her to the doc. If her fever gets worse, or if she's really irritable, a visit to the doc would prob be beneficial.
It's important to keep fluids up to her, so if her stuffy nose is interfering with feeding, BM or saline drops up her nose will help to clear it so she can feed.
Cheers
Lots of babies react with temps etc to vaxxing. Her immune system has just had a beating so if there was something lurking she's now more susceptible to it but it's more likely to just be the vax. There's a vax hotline you can call if you want to ask their advice.

This is just my opinion, and obviously you need to do whatever you think is right to keep your baby comfortable, so this isn't meant to make you feel bad. You can judge best for your own bub.
But I don't dose DD with panadol for low fevers, ie anything under 37.5 or 38 depending on her age and how long it is sustained for. A slight fever just means her body is doing what it is supposed to and her immune system is kicking in. Instead of dosing with panadol I keep her comfortable by removing clothes layers, cool drinks, lukewarm baths and light breezes (fans). If DD's fever is sustained for more than a 4 hours or starts creeping up, or if she's in obvious discomfort, then I'll give her a dose. Panadol won't do anything for her head cold, stuffy nose or cough but the other suggestions you were given will help.

I'm glad your little one is feeling better :)
The vax stimulated her immune system, hence the fever... fever is a way for our bodies to impair the reproduction of microbes and other invading nasties.
Martha- That's great advice you've given there re fevers and panadol. :D
xkwzit- Another gem :) BM and saline are great for clearing stuffy sinuses.
Yes yes to no panadol! Gives their immune system a chance to do it's job :)

Yep MarthaM just gave you some great advice.
Remember with something like this if you have any worries call a doctor or as JanetF said the vaccination hotline its not worth taking a chance with bubs no one will laugh at you after all you just have bubs best interests at heart.
Glad to hear all has settled :)
