Hope I don't go on for too long here....but here goes.

Admited to hospy on Tuesday 10th after being unable to find any energy or keep much food/water down for a few days. Blood test results were not good, as they found my liver to have very abnormal functions, so DR said we need to get bubs out ASAP. Spent the next couple of days on a drip to rehydrate, and then had the 2 doses of steroids to prepare for induction on 13th - 4weeks early.

Changed hospitals Friday morning at about 8am, dr was late but arrived to break my waters at about 8:30/9ish. Never had that done before - not very pleasant!! But at least it created some action. The Dr then had 3 attempts to put a canular in my hand to start the syntocin drip stuff to furthur induce the labour - by the time he got one in, i asked if the contractions were meant to be hurting already. So they put the moniter on to find i was already having quite strong contractions, and they left the drip off to see how things progressed. After about half an hour or so - i asked to hop in the shower, but bubs heart rate wouldn't budge above 135ish, and he was not moving much at all, so they wanted me to still keep the moniters on - so i went for the gas instead. The midwife had been very supportive of my birth plan, so i trusted she was steering me away from the shower and towards the monitoring for a good reason.

Must have been about quarter to 11am I asked to be examined as i was busting to know how much longer i had to go. I told the midwife that i would punch her if she told me i was only 4cm (that was the point i felt i couldn't continue with DD & started begging for the epi!!). She stepped back from the bed & said sorry - that was about where i was. Almost as soon as she left the room the contractions hit hard & fast - and i was in agony. Next thing i knew - i felt the urge to push - which i never had properly with DD - I yelled at mum & DH to get the midwife 'cause i was gonna push. They didn't beleive me, but got her anyway - and she nearly fell over, as Nicks head was almost ready to pop out. It only took a few minutes before he arrived - everyone was shocked - especially the Dr who wandered in 15minutes later. I had thought it was about a 3hr labour - but the official discharge stuff from the hospy said 2hrs 16mins!

As i was pushing i heard one of the midwives ask if the cord was around his neck - she said no, and then the other one left the room. Didn't think too much of it at the time. But when they put him up on my chest, the poor guy was blue, and in respitory distress. I asked if we could leave the cord pulsing, and the midwife said no, sorry and the paediatrician came rushing in with the other midwife. They quickly cut his cord and rushed him to the heat table where he only scored 4 on his first APGAR. It was up to 6 at 5minutes, so we had a quick hold before they took him off to a humidi crib for extra oxygen and heat.

Then the fun began for me - Dr fixed up a 2nd degree tear, and left. Then about 15mins later when i went to get up to shower I had a big hemmorage. So i got the gas given back to me while the middy massaged my stomach to help get it all out - sorry TMI!! I couldn't walk for the rest of the day so had to be wheelchaired up to see Nick in the nursery, although i don't remember it, I was out of it.

Thanks if you got this far!! It still all feels so surreal for me - I can't believe my baby boy is home so soon. It all sounds pretty scariy reading it back - but the midwives & drs made me feel very secure the whole time - so it still feels like a very positive experience. Not quite as easy as with DD - but my little man is here & healthy!

I can't believe this was 3 years ago!! Reading back I realise how unaware I was. It must have been a survival instinct on my behalf, as I was SURE I heard him cry the minute he was born. I have since watched the DVD mum took, and talking about it, I realise why everyone was so worried, and why mum stopped recording. He wasn't breathing, he was very blue and not moving. He actually didn't breathe for a few minutes after his cord was cut. I had a better talk to my OB about it all at my 6week appt. The placenta had seriously deteriorated, and it was lucky we induced when we did, he didn't have much longer, poor boy. I am still amazed at how calm I was and how i didn't realise what was happening. Mum was VERY surprised to hear when I was pregnant again after Nick - she didn't think she could go through it all again and was surprised we would.

A big Happy birthday to my boy, who is actually lucky to be here, and is making sure we know he is here by being the wonderful boy he is! :hugs:
