Hi,
I'm currently doing research (at Deakin University) into parenting and desparately need parents of disabled children or stepparents to complete a simple online annonymous questionnaire. I would be so greatful if anyone would be able to participate.

Please PM me or email me at tus@deakin.edu.au if you are interested and I can send you the survey link.

Your help would be very appreciated.

Parents of disabled children aged under 16yrs, and stepparents of children aged under 16yrs are eligable to participate. This study has ethics approval.

Hi,
This might be rude to point out but I think it's more correct to say children with special needs?

Just trying to help, good luck with your research.

 the word disabled is fine .. but its better to say child with a disability rather than a disabled child (that way the CHILD is mentioned first .. then the disability)

Are the step parents required separate to the parents of children with special needs?

Or are you requiring step parents of children with special needs?

Wasn't sure if this was 2studies or one?

Hi all,

Participants can be:
- stepparents of children with disabilities,
- stepparents of normally developing children, OR
- biological parents of children with disabilities.

I will be investigating the differences between each of these groups to determine specific needs. All help is very much appreciated!!

Thanks!!

nothing to do with the research, but just to commend you of your correct use of the term " children with disabilities"! I'm a special ed teacher and I have been taught very strictly to use the correct language while in uni.

But what do you mean by disabilities? is it physical disabilities , intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, or special needs or all of them?

Hope your research goes well!:fingerscrossed:

Hi All!

Thank you all for your support and help with my first research project! Everyone on the forum has been really receptive and helpful!

I've now finished collecting data for my first study (finally!! :smiliedance: ) and am now furthering this research with a second study, again looking at the differences between stepfamilies and biological families. I am a stepparent myself so am very interested in the different challenges experienced by different types of parents.

If anyone is interested in participating in this study by completing a questionnaire (completely anonymous and confidential, and approved by the Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee), please go to:
www.deakin.edu.au/psychology/research/family (http://www.deakin.edu.au/psychology/research/family)

All help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks again everyone!

Tilsa.

P.S. Participants need to be a biological parent or a stepparent of at least one child.
