would you have a general this time??

i was thinking about one of the posts i read recently where it sounded like alot of women had a similar experience to mine where they could feel ALOT of what was going on during their c/s and had a rather scary experience, i was just woundering how many of you would consider a general (being put to sleep for the op.) if you HAD to have a c/s again??

I hated my caesarean with a passion, but if I had to go through it again, I'd not go under general. For me, I think I'd be more worried about that. What if I never woke up? My last moments would be of me going into a cold, impersonal operating theatre.

Another thing I hated about my caesarean was that I didn't see my daughter until ages afterwards. She was taken to special care (just to be safe... there wasn't actually anything wrong with her), and I saw her quickly as they walked her past me. Then I got left alone in recovery (seriously, I was the only person in there... not even a nurse!) and forgot about so I was in there longer than recommended... then I was wheeled to special care.

While it took ages to see her, I'll be DEMANDING a cuddle straight away if there's nothing major going on. I'm not going to have her snatched up by strangers again. If I was under general, they could do whatever the hell they wanted and I wouldn't even know.

While I think a caesarean is pretty cold and impersonal, I think a general would be far more impersonal... it would be like I wasn't even a part of the whole event.

NO WAY!!! I want to hear that first cry - I want to kiss him/ her first!! not to mention that the recovery from a general would be WAAAY slower (which makes the first feed later .. and the first hug later ... no thanks :no: )

unless there was a DEFINATE medical necessity .. there is no WAY I would go under general ..

yes a c-section is scary (lots of birth experiences are) but my c-section was very low maintenance .. the recovery was quick .. and really .. I was on my feet faster than my friends who has v-births .. ( I guess my point here .. is that not allll c-sections are that bad..)

I'm with Veve. My c/section was also a very positve one and my recovery was as fast, if not faster than many VB friends.

Unless the doctors could convince me that a general was ABSOLUTELY MEDICALLY necessary, then I'd never, ever, no way no how choose to have one.

I saw Sarah being born and I was allowed to see her and touch her straight away. I wouldn't want to miss that for anything :)

I wouldn't choose general either :no:
It takes a good few hours to recover from enough to even hold your baby I think!
But I didn't feel pain during my csec, so I don't know....

i've never had a cs, but my next baby will be elective.... and yes, i'll be having general. :o im terrified of them cutting into me while im awake, the thought just makes me :barf:

Our gorgeous baby girl is only 10 days old and in the end I had an emergency c-section and had to have a general.

I would not choose to have a general again, eventhough I was absolutely terrified of the operation. Our baby girl was born at 1.53am but because of the general I didn't get to see her until 3.45am, I didn't get to hear her cry and my wonderful husband wasn't allowed to stay in theatre, so the whole experience for me was quite traumatic, something that will take me along time to work through.
