Hey all,

I've been looking at HoopdeDoo's avatar and I love that star nappy!

I would like to make one, but my cr@ppliquing skills are... - well, cr@p

What I want to do, is it will be a fleece pocket with a suidecloth inner. I'd like to have a suedecloth star on the butt.

Now, apparently to applique I do really tiny zig-zag stitch... is that right?

Are these two fabrics going to go ok? It's just I find when doing tiny stiches on fleece, the fleece starts getting caught a bit... is there an easier way?

Also, I can't draw a star for cr@p, I've been trying, and I can't get a perfect (or even halfway decent) star.
I can't find a template on the net I can trace, and I can't find anything star shaped around the house to trace around... any ideas? :fingerscrossed:

if you have publisher use auto shapes and get your star from that :)
How big a star did you need? I have a bundle if little stars here that i use when making my dds clothing they are about 2 inches wide and red and iron on but i sew them for the extra toughness

Wish i know how to make these nappies tho :( must learn one day

If you need a template for a star let me know i will upload one for you on photobucket just let me know how big you want it or i am sure you can adjust it to size once you have one :)

For applique, I think it's satin stitch that you use...do you have this on your machine?

got any star cookie cutters?

OK this is what I did. I used vlisofix so I didn't get any frayed edges, also it makes the fabric stiffer. I drew the star (free hand :p ) onto the paper side of the vlisofix, then cut it out leaving about 1/4 of an inch all around. Then ironed it onto the wrong side of the fabric for the star. Cut on the line to get my star shape. Then peeled off the paper backing. Place right side up onto you fleece that you are using for the back. Iron again with a tea towel between the iron and the fleece, otherwise it will melt.

Then sew around the edges using the zig zag stitch. I have the settings at about 4 - 5 for width and 3.5 for length. It looks better if you decrease the width as you get closer to a point, but it takes a bit of practice to do that. If you find you are having problems make sure you have a sharp needle, you are using the right thread, I've been using machine embroidery thread, and that you have the right foot on. Some machines have an embroidery foot that is clear so you can see what you are doing on a j@nome it's 'F'

You could use suedecloth, but i'm not sure if it would melt when you iron it, maybe if would be OK if you use a tea towel like with the fleece to protect it.

HTH send me a PM if you need any more tips
