I am just wondering out there how many mothers remember to do there pelvic floor exercises? I am one who only remembers sometimes. I know that I have to remember to do them because of having five kids, according to my physio I am a high risk of having a prolapse. I have been told that I have to avoid any heavy lifting which sometimes I can not avoid.

ME, ME ME. I ALWAYS remember to do them at least ten times during the day (yes ten) As a mum of 7, and one on the way, I KNOW how important the pelvic floor muscles are LOL.

Be vigilant, you wont regret it.

Hi,

I know that I should remember doing them but some days like veve said I can not remember to put deordarant on. Is there a way that makes you remember to do them. I sometimes do them when I am giving Ashleigh her bottle and I am doing them now while I am on the computer but a lot of times it just slips my mind.

I try and make a habit of doing it at the computer too, that way I feel as though I am not being lazy sitting at the computer! ;)

Hi Michele
I could only remember sometimes as well. But like Veve, I tried to remember to do them everytime I stopped the car at a red light (it worked a bit).

How do you do it Moonblossom? You must have a pelvic floor of steel :D .

Cheers

You need a trigger I think. Mine is everytime I feel the need to go to the toilet. LOL

Also, as you probably know, peeing then stopping the flow a few times during your ummm outlet is excellent too LOL

sorry TMI but hey...were all grown ups here ;)

My friends was everytime she had a cigarette she had to do her PFE or she wasnt allowed to have one .

Hi,

Maybe I need to put a yellow post it note in the bathroom saying PFE. Then when I am having a shower I can remember to do some. I remember my obs saying that you need something to trigger your mind to make sure you do them. My bladder is so weak, that even with the doing the exercises my gyno said I would probably need surgery after completing my family.

Hi all. My OB taught me another way to do my pelvic floor exercises. He said it is as simple as squatting (with your feet flat on the floor). So each time I get down on the floor to play with my dd I try to remember to squat even if only for a few minutes.

Apparently it works really well. In certain cultures it is common place to squat on the floor. My OB says that he very, very rarely encounters women from these cultures with weak pelvic floor muscles.

Your Ob is right on that score but don't forget that squatting cultures also generally squat or at least are upright to birth and don't have our ludicrously high rates of instrumental births. Forceps can cause massive pelvic floor damage.

I always forget...I was sooooo vigilant when we were TTC...but now I have trouble remembering my own name let alone to do PC excersizes....arrgg!!!

I'm trying to remember...the other day I sneezed and nearly wet myself...It made me VERY VERY scared that I'm going to have problems if I dont get vigilant!!!!

Question for all,

I have very very weak muscles now. I used to do my PFE when p/g with both girls, but the second baby came out feet first and stretched me beyond belief.

Now when I sneeze or even walk fast I get very embaressed.

I've been to see a gyno (for conception reasons) and he had a look (feel, lol) while I was there and said the vaginal wall has collapsed.

I will prob need an operation further down the track to get it fixed, but I'm wondering if I do PFE does it improve the situation or is it a waste of time

What are other people's personal experiences?

I am not a doctor but I think that by doing the exercises it will still give you some benefit, even if it is just a minor improvement.:)

Hi,

Shelly, I have the same problems. I have had 5 kids(all natural births) and I have trouble when I am sneezing, coughing, if I laugh to much. I have to wear the pads because I don't know when I am going to sneeze and I can not control it sometimes. When I remember I do the exercises but I been told I would probably need surgery after completing my family. My physio has told me that I should not do any heavy lifting (this is virtually impossible as I have a three year old who I have to get in and out of baths and occasionally I have to carry him to bed)because I am a high risk of having a prolapse.

I am planning on ttc number 6 in Feb 2007 and I going to have surgery after this. I have asked my obs. if I could have an elective c/s for number 6 because of the fear that I might get a prolapse. He said it is up to me what I want to do.

When i had my bubs because of him being so big i had the physio come in both mornings to check me out especially as my stomach muscles were ruined so to speak from bubs being so big & me being so small so they were worried about my back.
I now feel im going to have to head to the physio once again as i was an avid exerciser of my PFM but since having bubs i cant even tell if im doing them right :o weird i know but errr yeah & ive noticed recently when using tampons something isnt quite right sorry TMI & i also have to be very careful when i sneeze.
Im worried about a prolapse my mum & aunty have had these problems just recently due to other reasons & well here is me after one bub having these dramas  guess it didnt help i was torn ear to ear
