Fantastic idea
Well we are on day 6 now, can't believe this time a week ago I would be gearing up for my waters to break!!
We are breastfeeding, had a few problems at the start. Eb took a chunk off the left nipple and badly grazed the right. So we expressed for 24 hours and gave them a rest and all went well.
Bub is so well behaved lol, sleeps for at least 4 hours between feeds, longer if I let her, but she has to be woken 3-4 hrs for feeds as she is jaundiced.
Olivia loves her to pieces, wants to know the ins and outs to mothering lol! Bella well she is so great, it is as if bub has always been here!
Dad is just in love with his little miss, he can't get enough of her!
I am feeling GREAT it is so nice to be me again. Enjoyed a nice refreshing melon cruiser last night :p

It's good to hear someone else having to wake bubs too! We have to feed nick 4hrly of a day & 5hrly of a night. It feels so weird to wake him - he NEVER cries so far when he wakes. He only lets out the odd little cry if we take to long to get him dressed after a bath. We are still having attachment issues on occasion with BF - his little mouth seems too small to take it all in, but we are getting there. I am still having to keep him up for a minimum of 40mins for each feed, express after each day feed & give that to him in a bottle each night to make sure he gets enough sleep & milk! But he is being weighed tomorrow - so :fingerscrossed: he has had a good gain (he looks a bit chubbier in his cheeks) and we can stop the top-up feed.
mmm a cruiser - i'd love a glass of champagne, but since my milk took almost a week to come in properly, i'm gonna wait another week or few - but I am soooo looking fwd to it!

Ah I know! I am not used to a placid bub either, but have been told when they hit their due date they will liven up
I have to feed every 3 hrs 4 hours at the absolute max!! So it is pretty tiring, but I just look at her and it is sooo worth it Valentine
So who got the 3 day blues lol
Sheer Bliss
27-04-2007, 07:53
Yeah - DD was 3 1/2 weeks early - and a few days before her due date - she found her lungs & started demanding to be fed 2-3hrly at night, but slept for 5-6hrs of a morning.
I didn't get day 3 blues - but day 3 crankiness - YES! Poor DH could do no right, i went off at him for every little thing. It was also a good day, as day 3 was when Nick came out of the humidi crib and i finally got to feed him! I got really teary & stressed the day after we got home though. I had big panic attacks about what on earth they were thinking giving me such a tiny baby to take home & look after (weight had dropped to 2.2kg - 4lb 14oz). But i feel much better about it now.
I am still having a bit of trouble connecting with him really well - i think having delayed contact with him has slowed the bonding. It still feels a bit like he is still inside - with the no crying etc, like he hasn't had a chance to develop his own personality yet. Not sure if that makes sense or not. lol. But he woke again last night before he was due for a feed, and made a few cute little crying sounds - a bit like a mouse. hehe. It won't be long until he makes his presence known i think.

Yeah I know what you mean, at times I look at Ebbie and think gee she should still be inside me :crying: It kinda makes me sad lol!!
I got day 3 and 4 blues lol I cried when I got home cos I had to do housework and took it out on DH that he had not washed the deck down silly me :o

Cool - at least it is gone now! Nicks fell of in hospy - i was glad to see it gone!
The clinic nurse just left - Nick has gained a whopping 440g in a week!! He is above his birth weight now & weighs 2.69kg (undressed). I am so relieved! I was a bit worried because my milk came in so late and i feel no real engorgement. I guess since it's just over a year that i stopped feeding DD, my boobs are still efficient!! They say newborns are only expected to gain 150-200g a week - so he has done really well.
Hokey Pokey
28-04-2007, 15:48
Wow that is excellent!!
Ebony has only gained 80grams so she needs to put on a bit more, they are doing a follow up next week.
My milk has started to come in good now  So I should be able to chunk her up LOL
What size clothing is Nick in? Ebony is in 00000 -0000.
Here she is this morning, pouting at me oh so cutely lol!

Hehe - she is just adorable! With those pouty lips - she's a heartbreaker already.
Nick is wearing 00000 clothes too - but they are starting to get a little snug for length, even though he doesn't come close to fitting them accross the shoulder/belly. Friends bought him a little premmie outfit - it won't fit for longer, but here (http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i115/charlis_mum/NicholasJames040.jpg) it is.
And he woke just before 5am tis morning - which is when i was meant to wake him :smiliedance: Hopefully he is going to start waking himself now & be a bit more alert.

He's only 49cm - so about average, more so on the shorter side. We think he looks long too & were shocked when he measured so small. Must be 'cause he is so skinny.:D

So ladies, who get's up during the night?
Sheer Bliss
04-05-2007, 16:17
So far it's still pretty easy ( I am going to regret saying that!!) Like tonight i'll wake him for a feed at 8pm (last one at 4pm), then again at 1am, then again at 6am - by the time i finish that DD will prob be up. So it's really only just the once ATM. DH is still on holidays, so he changes Nick for me & i just have to sit down & be the feeding machine. lol.
On the plus side - he was weighed again today - 3.03kg naked! Another 340g this week. I am so pleased - he is going to look like a normal chubby baby in no time! I can't believe he is already 3weeks old though  . Time has flown.
Hello thought I'd pop in and let you know how Samuel and I are doing.
Samuel is getting there still in Special care but has started taking every other feed now, they won't let him home until he is taking every feed by bottle for 48 hrs then we'll talk about it.
He's a little porker put on another 58g in two days so he's now 2430g 5lb 5oz. He's quite long at 47cm but he has such a small head it's only 32cm and all the hats swamp him he's in 00000 at the moment but I find they are small on the length and his feet. I'll have to cut the feet out  .

I'm struggling at the moment the travelling to Bendigo everyday is starting to get to me. I also have everything ready at home now and still no baby.:crying: I feel quite bad because I gave up on expressing because I was struggling to do it enough times to keep up my supply as it was dwindling fast. I also couldn't see how I could establish feeding when I can only get to the hospital a couple of hours a day and I know he can't afford to lose any weight when he comes home. I didn't want to prolong his stay in hospi I just want him home. It's is ripping my heart out leaving him there every day I can't wait to be able to look after him all day and night.
Any way apart from that we are doing ok and my other boys want him home too as they only get to see him once a week.
Good luck to those of you still waiting and all of you with new bubs home give them an extra cuddle.
Michelle
BIG HUGE hugs to you Michelle and to your little man too :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Michelle - Sam is gorgeous!! He is so wide awake & alert in the second photo - that's a great sign of how well he is doing. Don't feel bad about stopping expressing. I know i struggled with getting my supply up properly & Nick was only in the humidi crib & tube fed for 3days. With all the extra stress on you with the travelling as well, it would be tough. :hugs: I hope he gets to come home soon.
Kristy - When my milk started to come in properly that happened - the clinic nurse said feeding squeezes the uterus, so if little Ebony has been feeding more it might explain it? I didn't have any really bad pains with it though. Hope it gets better for you soon.
Oh Michelle he is just so gorgeous! He is so precious, it must be so hard for you at the moment :hugs: He'll be home soon though  I keep looking at him in the sink, he is a beautiful baby.

I know what you mean Kristy - mine was worse than with DD, and it's still just hanging around a tiny bit - ew, i wish it were over. lol
I got a little glimpse into 'real life' with a newborn last night. :smiliedance: Nick woke every 4 hrs (meant to wake him after 5) and his appetite was insatiable. Where he normally falls alseep after 10-15 on one boob & we have to struggle to wake him up for the second, he was still going strong after 30mins on one side!! I had to 'break the seal' to take him off for the other side. I let him feed for almost an hour twice last night. He must be having that 3week growth spurt!! I wasn't sure if he'd not have it unitl later since he still isn't actually due yet - but he was a bit unsettled and starving - so i guess he is doing it now! Geez - if he put on 780g in 2 weeks feeding normally - how much will he put on in a growth spurt week! I had to pack most of the 00000 clothes away this week - he has some adorable 0000 stuff -i don't want to pack that away just yet. :D
Sounds like he's doing great Tan. Sam is starting to wake for his feeds now he had alternate bottle and NGT feeds yesterday and we are hoping that means he won't be long till he's home.

Good boy Sam!!!
Tan - omg Ebony was the same last night!! She fed on and off from 9pm till after 1am!!!! Then slept until 6.30am! Must be a growth spurt.... I was told she would liven up around her due date which is 4 days away now..
Hi May Mums,
Well just home today and I feel so jetlagged....Isaac is wanting to feed every 2 hours and I am just so tired...I am happy I am finally able to breastfeed though, after 2 failed attempts it feels wonderful!

YAY Sam for waking to be fed! It won't be long now until he is home by the sounds of how well he is doing.
Sounds like Ebony is the same as Nick - just starting to realise that their due date is near, and it's time to start playing up.:D
I bet you are glad to be home Camille, well done on the breastfeeding - it must feel great.

How did he go?? I haven't seen you about the place - so I am hoping it's because you have been so busy having your little man at home.:fingerscrossed: He is home with you now. :hugs:
Yep he's home sorry I didn't get chance to post yesterday. He's feeding well had a bit of a worry when he was taking forever to feed from the Avent bottles so I gave him the Tommee Tippee one he had in hospi and he was a lot better, i've been reccommended to get the Pigeon teats as they are alot softer and eaiser for him. At least they will fit the bottles we've got and I don't need to buy all new ones. the midwife came and checked on him today and all is well.
Hi guys,
Well Isaac is still feeding every 2 - 3 hours and seems to be especially unsettled during the middle of the night (from 11pm - 1am).
Where are everybodys bubs sleeping between feeds? during the day Isaac will sleep in his moses basket but during the night I just give in and lay on the couch with him cuddled up to me (so I can get maybe 3 hours sleep) and so as not to wake everyone else in the house!
Glad to hear samuel is home michelle - yay!

Jet is sleeping in a little basinnette / basket thing during the day and at night is the cradle which is beside our bed or he lies with me so that I can attempt some sort of sleep.
He is a little unsettled at least once a day for a good couple of hours as well. Never at the same time. Today it was this afternoon, yesterday it was 4am.
So glad to hear that Samuel is home Fozzie!!!
How is everyone else's bubbas going???
Sheer Bliss
11-05-2007, 18:02
YAY Michelle - glad Samuel is home!
Nick was sleeping in the basinette/cradle thing we got - but he is a very pukey, refluxy bubs, so we have put him in the rocker for day & night sleeps ATM. It can sit up a bit more, so it helps him sleep better. The basinette is adjusted so it is slightly sloped, but we are going to prop it up more with yellow pages to make it more sloped.
Nick was 3.45kg today!!! YAY - another 420g in a week. He is still feeding every 4hrs of a day & 5hrs of a night - occasionally he wakes on his own - but he is so placid that he doesn't cry when he wakes - just lays there patiently waiting to be fed. It is all so new to me (DD was a screamer & 2-3hrly demand feeds) I worry that there is something wrong as he is just so placid. I am still thinking it is the calm before the storm....i'll just have to wait & see.
Samuel is sleeing in his bassinet in the day and at night by the bed. He is feeding 4 hourly but he doesn't always wake and I have to wake him up he will go 5 hours at night sometimes, he's really placid and doesn't really cry so we are really waiting for it all to start as I think it may be with him having been prem.
hi guys!! I get to join this thread now yay!!!
Lilah is also going every 2-3 hours, which im really pleased about considering her size, the midwive had just been, they are coming every 2 days until she passes 2500 grammes, which hopefully should be on tuesday as she was 2480g today!
Well done everyone all our babes are buetiful!!!

Welcome home Sam!!!
Ebony feeds every 4 hourly during the day, would go longer if I left her. She loves to sleep in the rocker, as she get's a bit vomity (being a piggy lol) she wakes now during the night 2-3.5 hourly  Half my problem though as I am so tired that I am not burping her properly :o I am just too tired to be sitting up for over an hour... especially after being so darn sick and recovering still!
How has everyone done with their weight loss so far?
I put on 28kg (OMG I know).... but by the time I came out of hospital 5 days later I had lost 10kgs - amazing. 1 weeks later another 3 kgs down!!:yelclap: So I have 15kgs to lose now.
I am eating sensibly and gently walking for 20 minutes each night with Isaac in the stroller, until I see my ob for my 6 week check up after the c-section. My goal is to lose 1 - 1.5kg per week and hopefully look amazing for my 1 year wedding anniversary on 1st August!

How has everyone done with their weight loss so far?
You are all probably going to hate me but over the last 2 weeks I have lost 16 kilos without trying. I am just sitting around most days (which means no exercise) and have still been eating pretty junky food.
Problem is now that I weigh less than I did before I was pregnant (by about 12 kilos) and my clothes are starting to become too big, especially most of my pants, and I am not sure that I want to buy new ones.

How has everyone done with their weight loss so far?
i have to admit i didn't really put on a lot of weight during my pregnancy (about 12kg in total). i'm quite lucky in that i'm very tall and thin... and most of what i did put on was baby bump!! my thighs and butt are definitely bigger now though and i have my 'flabby' tummy but it's nothing i'm overly concerned about. i just more or less want ot get my fitness level up to scratch!! so lots of walking with the pram and pilates i think!

I'm exactly the same as you Miss Ani. I put on about 12kgs too. I am pretty much back to weighing what I did before I got pg. I think it's all the breastfeeding. My hips are a tiny bit "chunkier" but I'm not real worried.
Did anyone else find that when their bubs were about 10 - 12 days old they wouldn't settle? The clinic nurse warned me about it and today I see why! Anna has been awake pretty much all day.
Did anyone else find that when their bubs were about 10 - 12 days old they wouldn't settle?
Yes totally!! That was middle of last week for me....holy cr*p, I went through a mini breakdown, very teary, totally exhausted. Isaac just wouldnt settle between any of his feeds and wanted to feed every hour and he was exhausted too, poor little thing.
My best friend, a midwife, told me that this is because your milk changes at 2 weeks from the 'thick' full cream type, to a 'thinner' more plentiful type and that it is just their little tummies getting used to it. I found that it only took around 3 days to settle down.
I am happy to report that instead of feeding every 1 1/2 to 2 hours, Isaac is now feeding every 2 1/2 to 3 hours!! Last night he slept for 4 hours straight!!! YAYAY- my first decent sleep in 2 1/2 weeks!!:smiliedance:

How has everyone done with their weight loss so far?
I am in the same boat as qldmummy - sorry guys. I am about 5kg less now than what i was when i fell pregnant. It was not good though, to be taht sick, i would much rather be carrying an extra 10kg now than have been sick. I still have this big soft floppy belly though, so i'll have to work on some stretches etc to help shrink that back down again.
Did anyone else find that when their bubs were about 10 - 12 days old they wouldn't settle?
Nick was really good for the first 4weeks - no probs what so ever, I was told to expect that from a premmie though. Now is another story. Last night he was up from midnight until 4:30 wanting to feed or play the whole time. We had a late night on Sat, so i needed to catch uplast night - whoops. He is almost 6 weeks now, so it is possibly the 6 week growth spurt??

hey ladies...
i hope everyone gets some decent rest...even if thats NOT sleep but just rest... i find breastfeeding increasingly peaceful, now that we're getting the hang of it.
Regarding weightloss i put on 18kgs while pregnant and 5 days later had lost 14... so im nearly back to pre preg weight but i can feel it peeling off me with feeding... im always SOOOOOOOOOO thirsty... its insane... derek has to fill my water bottle about 4 times per feed lol...
aalliyah lost 400grams in hospital because i had no milk and VERY LITTLE colostrum for the first three days....so we're trying to build it back up... mum says she must be doing fine because she's always content... and if she was hungry she would be hysterical.... she's pooing lots and lots of wet nappies so i guess these are all good signs:confused: its a scary job the first time round lol... but we're gaining confidence.
derek is SOOOOOOOOOOO in love with her... he is besotted by his lil girl... which isnt like him at all to get gooey over anything... it really melts my heart. as a couple we've shared something that we cant forget lol... instantly we are just SO much happier.
one week on and already we cant keep our hands off each other... between him and aalliyah i get no sleep lol:o sorry if thats TMI.
LIFE IS GOOD!!!
i hope everyone else is feeling just as wonderful...even if you are a little sleep deprived lol.

Wow I am envious!! It took me about 12 weeks after my csection... my recovery was very slow and very painful :crying:
Still yet to do it this time and it is coming up to 5 weeks.. if it wasn't for the darn infection and all that afterwards.... I am so scared of it hurting...:o
Oooh I was hoping someone would ask this question!! My OB said to do it the night before I go to see him again just to make sure everything is working down there... That's not til 3rd of July, I don't think I can wait that long! DH is scared he'll bust my stitches tho (I only had 3  ) but my worry is that it'll be like throwing a sausage down a hallway for him! I think I'll wait another couple of weeks.

lol... i wasnt joking when i said i was shocked about recovery... derek was a little hesitant the first night i suggested it... but then by the next night the thought was a little too much lol...i would be scared of it hurting if i had a natural birth...
when i found out i was pregnant i was SO scared of the whole 'sasauge down the hallway' (*thanks twitch lol:laughing: *) thing.... i guess i dont have to worry now....but what can you expect when you push a life outta there lol... it will all be back to normal soon enough...
i hope you all heal quickly lol...

Its been 3 weeks on Thursday and my DH is still scared too. I had a c-section and I think it would be okay but my DH thinks he is going to hurt me...maybe in another week?

Seeing as I had a natural birth and am terrified of getting an infection, I am waiting until I stop bleeding before we go for it. DH is champing at the bit and I have been getting a lot of kisses and cuddles and hints thrown my way.

My recovery was a bit worse this time (2nd degree tear - ouch!) but i remeber being so scared with DD and it not being so bad. So I took the plunge when Nick was just over 4 weeks. My stitches had healed and it wasn't painful at all. It didn't quite feel the same IYKWIM - time to make sure i keep doing those pelvic floor exercises. lol - sorry for TMI!
With DD I was at my 6weeks check-up (which was actualy when she was 8weeks old, 'cause i forgot to make the appt) and we still hadn't done it, I was petrified.
I did hear an old wives tale that if you have a boy you are more likely to want it again sooner than if you had a girl? Somthing to do with the testoterone from the baby or something?? I guess you blow that theory out of the water BG lol - but i wonder if it wll be true for the rest of us. lol.

It only took me 2 weeks to be intimate with DH ...... I couldnt wait!! He was a little hesitant....
I guess i was lucky though, i never had stitches or anything, it all felt pretty good down there in about a week. LOL
Going to the doctors tommorow to get the pill so i can go back to a normal sex life again (well as much as you can when you have a young bub!)
I agree with the others though about the sausage down the hallway thing.....

I totally agree, I started back on the pill last week (the mini pill, which is progesterone only, safe for breastfeeding) so I hope that protects me....today was the day....just scared I didnt wait long enough for the pill to kick in:no:
We have just come back from the hospital. Isaac had his first antenatel visit. He was weighed and measured and has put on 600g in 2 weeks:D so nothing wrong with the milk supply here!!!
He has also grown 1 cm in height and 1cm around the head!! Im so happy he is thriving and that Im still able to breastfeed him (although it is so tiring), it is definately worth it!
His little boobies are still swollen (from the hormones in my breastmilk - quite normal) and he has a few milk spots on his face. He unfortunately has bad nappy rash at the moment though, nothing a bit of bepantham won't fix though, says the midwife (and some bottom airing during the day!).
How are everyone elses bubs growing?;)
