hi,

just wondering if anyone could tell me. My brother and his partner are having their baby 5 weeks early this weekend, due to a few problems, but we were wondering if they allow you to take pics of the baby being brought out of the belly, and cutting of the cord ect? as we are unsure and thought it would be a nice memory for the bubs?

thanks

Yes my DP took the best pic ever!
We actually didnt bring it in and the middy told him to run back up to the room and grab it.

I took pics of a friend's baby being born by CS (the baby I helped create via egg donation).....

I didn't take any pics of Miss Melbourne coming out of mum's tum, but I did get pics of the first moment they held her up over the divider thingos....

No one said anything about me having my camera there, and actually aided me taking pics by moving out of the way when necessary (which I thought was really nice, seeing as I was an extra in the theatre - they normally only let one support person in, and for my friend they allowed 2).

Yes you can take pics, generally no they won't let "you" cut the cord. The reason for this is basically because someone else doing it would contaminate the sterile environment.

Saying that, however, I have heard of ppl who have been able to cut the cord at a c/s.

ah ok, one of our friends had a baby through c/s and her partner cut the cord but the baby wasnt early or ne thing just a bit of complications.

Well that will be great, this will be my brothers 2nd baby being born 5 weeks early. Nd unfortunatly he didnt get his own pics for the 1st but the nurses had a few taken for him. They dont have a camera of their own at the moment so this is why i was eager to find out as i will be lending him mine.

thanks again ladies :smiliedance:

the orderly took heaps of photos of our dd (he did a better job then we could have) and dh cut the cord. i think they'll let your dp cut the cord but after they've cut it. but it migth depend on how your bub is doing..dd was fighting fit so there was no troubles. a c/s can be a positive experience for all with the right attitude.

my dh took photos of my c-sect, bubs was 8 weeks early as well.
dh actually sent in to the theatre to take photos of the baby for me! - to look at after he was born, cause we knew he was gonna be rushed away (just didnt expect not seeing him at all!), and when i get to looking at the pics - well he may as well used the video camera! -plenty of them cutting me open, fishing round looking for him(im thinking even after them cutting me open he still didnt want to come out!!!), a head, a bit more of a head, then some arms, then he on the warmer thing not breathing!!!

dh reasons for the gruesome pics was ---- you watch it done on tv i thought you might like to see it done to you!! - UMMMM NO THANKS!!!

tell your brother to take millions of pics!! (use the digi cam!) and if bubs is rused off to the nicu (5 weeks early shouldnt be too bad!) then tell him to run after the doctors with bubs, and snap some more!! - funny enough mummy will (well hopefully) apriciate seeing those moments she missed (while hopefully drugged up to the max! - i tried to do a drug free c-sect! lol, had the spinal, and refuesed any thing afterwards, only to 20mins later be screaming at the nurse for that shot of pathadine!! llol)

well happy snapping!

We have digital photos and video. Some of the footage was even shot by helpful theatre nurses.

DH was able to cut (shorten) the already cut cord (if that makes sense). We got footage of that too.

Ohhh... and DH went along with the midwide/nurse and got to film DS's first bath in the nursery CUTE!!!!!

DH was able to take the photos of both Daniel and Jessica straight after they were taken out. Word of warning don't look up as you can see exactly what's happening. We had Daniel with us from time he was born till we went up to the room. It was great DH took about 30 photos from the time he was born till we were heading up to the ward again.

Our Hospital allowed still photos to be taken but no Video taping. The Theatre Nurse took all our photos and my DH put a black in white film in the camera as he didn't want the photos to look 'gory' so to speak.
