Hi,
My DS is14 weeks old and his bedtime at the moment is anywhere from 9.30-10.30pm. Is that too late for bedtime, because he does seem quite cranky and tired to make it to that time. I would like to get him to bed a little earlier, say 7.30-8pm, so we could eat dinner, feed animals, etc!:p
I would really appreciate anyones ideas or advice, or anyone who has been through or is going through a similar thing. Thankyou.:)

Its hard to say what is right & what is wrong. Bubs will give tired signs etc when he is ready so that being said if he is cranky when your putting him to bed at 10pm try slowly taking it back say half an hour & see how that works. Thats what i did with my bubs at first & then there came a time when he was happy going to bed at 7pm but at the same time there are nites he goes to bed later or earlier depending on him as he may have missed a day sleep, had none at all or had an extra long snooze which puts out when he goes to bed.
I just mainly go with the flow especially as i have found if i try to regiment his routine he fights it so instead i let him work his own routine which i find he sticks to when he is happy.
Remember your bubs is still quite young & working out how the wrold works so just try to work yourselves around him.
Good luck !

Putting your baby to bed when he's tired, whenever that is, is going to make life much easier for you all :) My son goes to bed when I do and gets up around 9am. At 14 weeks we were just going with the flow, putting him to sleep when he was tired, no problems at all. Look out for his tired signs and let him guide you. It's much more peaceful and gentle for him that way. After all we adults don't go to bed at the same time every night, do we? I go to bed when I'm tired :)

My DS goes to bed anywhere between 7:30 and 9pm depending on the day.. But generally by about 8pm he is in his cot... Do what works for you and bubs...

My DS was going to bed most nights after 9pm most nights, but was still not sleeping through. I just started his bedtime routine earlier and he's been going to bed by 7:30 most nights for the last 6 weeks. If he has a late nap or misses a nap he usually goes to bed a little bit later and then has disturbed sleep. Teething can also affect sleep habits so keeping a "doing" routine instead of a strict time routine so they know whats happening. This help my DS to relax much better.
eg: dinner, bath, nudie run, nappy on, bottle, cuddle with dad, PJ's on, boobie on mummy & daddys bed and off to sleep. :)

Mine all went to bed at 7pm from the day they were born, I wasn't going to let them get into the habit of having late nights.

Hey Alex

It all depends on when your DS last woke up from his sleep prior to bedtime.

A baby of 14 weeks should probably be up no longer than about 1.5 hours.

He's probably cranky cause he is overtired so I would suggest what the others have said and try putting him to bed a bit earlier.

Also just a thought... have you got a bedtime routine going????

My DS goes to bed when he is tired - usually between 9 and 10pm. If you are worried about your routine try and change it, if it doesn't worry you go with the flow.

I send my DS to bed anywhere between 9 and 10.30pm also.

His last feed is at 9pm, so it depends on how long it takes to settle him.

We have the late bedtime because we see my inlaws a fair bit for dinner, so of course they want him awake to play with. :chef:
