Hi,
Hubby and I are having a boy and we have both agreed that we want him circumsized (please i don't want any judgements passed against us. We all have our own opinions, but this is our decision).
I spoke to my GP who advised that you are unable to get boy circumsized until 1 year of age in NSW. I found this rather odd, and came to my own conclusion that he does not believe in the procedure.
Can anyone advise if this is the case, or if they have had there boy done prior to being one within last year or so???
Is there anywhere I can go to get more info on where i can get this procedure done, as I don't think my GP will give to me......
Thanks!
Does sound odd.
You could ask the hospital you'll be birthing in.
We were given info at ante natal classes- if we wanted it- and then my husband asked the paed who saw our son after birth and while he didn't agree with it or do it he put our names down on a list a the hosp then the surgeon who does it came and saw us, and did the op.

Hi there...that not only sounds odd but it is wrong...
The doctor I got my son done at only does to the age of 6 weeks and then if you dont go in that time period wont do them till after 2 years i think it is. I would be getting a second opinion..

We had DS done at 5wks. From memory its before 6wks or after 1. We did have to look around for a doc that did it.

Kazza, thanks for your thoughts.
I will see with hospital when we book in!
Cheers,
Yes, I believe also that it is before 6 wks and after 1 yr.
You will have to look around for a Dr that will do it tho, as most Dr's only do it if there is a medical reason!!
Just noticed you're from Tamworth?!
You may find it even harder to find someone up there. Def ask the hospital.

Yeah come to think of it i was wrong (close by wrong ) under 6 weeks or you have to wait for a year (not 2)
It was easy to find a doctor here to do it...just had to make an appointment with him to dicuss the procedure and for him to give you the facts..and then you make an appointment for the op. There are a few around that will do it....if your local gp doesnt do it then he may give you the name of one that does (mine did)

U probably have the answers u where looking for, but I thought I would add my 2 cents:D
I had both my boys done in NSW and they wouldnt do it older than I think it was 10 days. Something really young like that. Their reason was that the babys get to strong then. I cant imagine them trying to hold a 1 year old down while it being done only with a local. Make sure if u get it done that old that the boy gets a General. Good luck:fingerscrossed:
My son was done in April last year at about 3 weeks old. The Dr was in Castle Hill, which unfortunately is nowhere near you.

Yes, that does sound a little weird...As we are having a son and want him circumcised, our Dr has said we can have it done in the hospital before we leave or at the 6 week check up ( both times with Anesthesia ) By the way we live in Queensland

My DS was done at 3mths of age ( NSW ) so this is very odd unless its due to the area you live in !
hi - hubby and I live on the north coast of nsw and we went to brissy to get our bub done - he was 6 weeks old but i have had girlfriends who live in brissy that got their bubs done as early as 2 weeks. Dr Terry Russell is THE man. He has done thousands and has a great "bedside manner". If you go to google and type in "circumcsion" his webpage comes up. Has lots of q & a on their for anxious parents. At the end of the day it is noone's business - all that matters is you and your family - there are alway going to be people who judge regardless. Hubby and I looked at it as one less thing our bub has to worry about growing up. We have heard so many stories about boys getting nasty infections when they are older - eg 5 or so and don't let mum wash them any more so we believe it is 5 minutes of discomfort for a life time of worry free "pecker-dom".
Hopsital's won't do it in NSW until the baby is 1 year as they believe it is a cosmetic procedure and should be done under general anaesthetic. They don't believe in giving a GA to a baby under the age of 1 unless absolutely medically necessary, which circumcision isn't considered to be, so therefore you can't have it done at a hospital until then. We got told this at our ante-natal class.
There are private doctor's who will do it before one year though so you'll need to go on your own personal search and find one that will.
