Bamboo and Hemp co-op - place your order!

Ok, the Bamboo and Hemp fabric co-op is underway :party:

Here is what is happening: I will be buying bamboo and hemp in bulk. Can get it at a really good price doing this.
Anyone who would like some, place your order, pay me, and I will send you the quantity you want :thumbsup:

The Bamboo is 85% Bamboo/15% SKAL certified organic cotton.
150 cm wide.
$16 per metre. This is an absolute bargain - I was browsing a nappy making site earlier this evening and they had bamboo listed for $15 for HALF a metre.

The Hemp is 55% Hemp/45% SKAL certified organic cotton fleece.
150cm wide.
$14 per metre.

Postage: Stay tuned, but half a metre will easily fit in a $5 satchel. Hopefully a metre will.
Anything over a metre will then go in a $9 satchel, and if you'd like more than can fit in a $9 satchel, we can do that also, I'm just not exactly sure how much it will be yet. I'll look on the Aus Post website (or you can do it seeing as you know your postcode!), I just have to work out how to package it :)

Minimum order half a metre.
We can only go ahead with this if we reach the minimum order requirements for hemp and bamboo rolls, so this isn't 100% certain yet.
I'll leave this thread for about a week, a week and a half to give everyone a chance to see it and think about it.

Payment is by Paypal or Direct Deposit, you can pay anytime from when we know for sure it is going ahead, till about a week after I get it delivered please :)
(Longer is ok if you need, but just make sure you let me know).

Post here any q's and/or how much you'd like of what.

Yeah I have a tee made from hemp and bamboo so was thinking it may be good to get the material. But organic cotton bamboo blend is good enough anyway.

I'm making inserts with mine too :yes:
Bamboo or hemp just comes down to preference really - the bamboo is softer (which doesn't really matter for inserts, but is great for fitteds) but takes longer to dry than hemp, but is more abosorbent. I'm going to do inserts out of both, and see what I prefer.

Toad, I've marked it up a little, but not much because I want to do this as cheaply as poss for everyone, so we can get more fabric :thumbsup:

I made an AIO with 9 layers all up - I chose 9 because that's what my inserts are when I put them in a pocket, because they are 2 layers sewn together then you fold it in thirds and stuff it in the pocket... BUT it was an old insert, so pretty thin...
.... but my sewing maching found it pretty damn near impossible to get thru it!
I think you need at least 4 layers, then maybe a booster of another 4?

Btw, I'm pretty sure post shouldn't be more than $9 for most of you. Those who have ordered 0.5m or 1m, that should fit in a $5 satchel hopefully.

I'm in Newcastle so a bit too far for you bossoflatch :D

One metre of fabric, according to the website, weighs just under half a kilo.

So one metre can go in a $5 satchel (if it fits).

In theory, that means 6 metres could go in a $9 satchel but there is no way it will fit. I'll see how much I can fit in a $9 satchel. At a guess, I say 3-4 metres.

Anything more than what will fit in a satchel, according to the Aus Post website, will start at $9 for most areas around NSW, then go up a bit for futher away.

I'll check it all out soon and let you guys know for sure :thumbsup:

I managed to get 1m bamboo into a $5.10 satchel. The satchel is meant for under 500g, but when I weighed it, it was 600g. I just posted it anyway and I haven't heard it didn't arrive, so I think it was ok! :thumbsup:

if you feel the back of the fabric, you'll see the hemp is kind hempy, nautral, cottony, while the bamboo is bit shiny and slippery :thumbsup:
