Im just curious about others experiences.
I always get told even by complete strangers that my bubs is an " old soul " its usually the first thing that comes out of their mouths well that or " well you have been here before havent you " to which bubs always smiles.
My boy looks very similar to both my partner & i as babies but he has one thing that really astounds me big blue eyes & yes i know they can change but the thing is they are exactly like my dad's same colour everything. My dad passed away almost 7yrs ago.
I know bubs knows more than he should i can feel it & he even manages to communicate things he shouldnt really be able to do at 10mths even my sister is astounded as my nephew was never like this nor did anyone ever say he was an old soul but she feels it.
I guess im just wondering whether this is just a common phrase people say or whether there really is something to it ?

I am always facinated when i go out shopping etc and I have eye contact with littlies in their prams. The old souls "beam" and smile at you in recognition. May sound strange seeing u dont know these children, but there is just a KNOWING.

I cant explain it.

My best friend has a little niece whom I met once when she was only a tiny baby. Everyone said "she's an old soul that one".. and I daresay she was! But I think some people use the expression without thinking too much about what it means. This little girl had eyes that looked straight through you. It's definitely something about the awareness and 'knowing' they seem to possess from the minute they are born.

My grandparents called me an 'old soul' (bizarre as they don't 'technically' believe in reincarnation!). I apparently displayed 'wisdom' beyond my years and was very mature at a young age and quite frankly knew a little too much for my own good at times! :D

Old souls, I believe, tend to become very worldly people, full of wisdom and maturity beyond their years. It can be a hindrance (people often think your child is being a smart ****!). :p

I totally agree with that explanation. DD1 is definitely not on her first journey through this world and quite a few people have voiced that opinion to me - even people I don't know. One lady gasped and covered her mouth in a shopping centre one day and was just awed by the 'old soul' she saw staring back at her out of my daughters pram. At the time I didn't take much notice but since then, with the growing smartie pants DD1 gets accused of being rather than people seeing her maturity and knowledge that seems to be of so many things, I have done a fair bit of reading and research and definitely believe old souls are everywhere but not all of us are willing to see, accept or believe in them. And (IMO) not everyone has been here and done this all before.

I agree that babies and children can be old souls!
My little brother for example (who is now 14) was a very odd child, but not in a bad way.
He always had that intense personality and once when he went with mum to McDonalds, he was sitting with her and said "I miss my other mum"...mum said "who??" and he said the same thing again. He then went on saying how his other mum died in a car crash and then started saying i want my mum! Mind you when this happened he was only 3 or 4!!!
There have been other similar things to that which happened as he grew up...so we've always believed he's an old soul :)
