Ok so i have made 3 fitted cloth nappies which i was so proud of until about 10 mins ago when ds woke up from his nap after his first real wear sopping wet. What have i done wrong?
Here is how i made them
2 layers of terry flat cloth nappy
flannel inner layer
fleece outer layer
should i have used more layers of terry or should i consider using different products also the fleece cover leaked could this be because it may not be the proper fleece i asked for polar fleece but i dont think they sold me the right stuff.
Im so dissappointed they havent worked very well.
definately needs more absorbent material in it :)
most fitted nappies will have around 3 layers of terry or hemp in the wetzone, and then another 2 or 3 layers in a booster.
you could make (or buy) some hemp or bamboo boosters to lay in the nappy, or you could use terry for boosters as well. I wouldn't sew more than 3 layers together as it takes too long to dry.
The fleece needs 2 layers to be waterproof (unless it's MaldenMills fleece from the US) but it won't work unless there's sufficient absorbent material in the nappy. once all the absorbent material is wet, then there's nothing to hold more wee, and it will go through the fleece to find the nearest absorbent material (be it clothes, bedsheets etc)

When I use terry flats for DD, I fold it in such a way (bat fold) that there are about 6 layers in the wetzone, and even then it only takes one wee in it. Two layers would not be enough, and the flannel and fleece wouldn't do much extra, so I'd recommend either boosting with additional inserts or using hemp or bamboo. Also, I thought the fleece should be on the inside to act as a liner? I don't make nappies, so don't know much about all this stuff. But I do use them and know what does and doesn't work. HTH:)
BTW: don't stop feeling proud of yourself, you've done an amazing job:yelclap: adjusting and tweaking is just a part of getting it all right.

thanks for the tips i am going to spotlight tomorrow and will get some more fleece this time the right one i got the last lot from a local fabric store and i dont think they knew what i was talking about and sold me what they had. I will also order some hemp and bamboo off line to do the boosters. Hopefully next time around will be better.

I was in Spotlight yesterday. The don't have microfleece as such (Lindcraft does) but they do have some stuff that is very very close in the baby section, it has patterns on it and is $12.95m.

Hi ,
Phineas has a thread (http://bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=84905) to share hemp and bamboo at bulk prices if you're interested.
Good luck!
