View Full Version : Calling all Londoners
Hi guys
Im a Brissy girl who has been living in London for a year and half. Im currently living with my DP in South West London, but im getting really homesick and lonely! Maybe its because ive been ill with m/s but im starting to miss all my mates back home.
Is there any other bubhubbers in London?
Looks like its just us then!
LOL
we should try and meet up one day, I am real lol met lots of bubhubers in Sydney :D
maybe once things for us have settled down we can arrange something :)

Hi Moops,
Whereabouts in SW London are you??? We are no longer there(have been back a few years now) we still have daydreams that we will move back there sometime for a few years... We used to live in Putney and loved it!!
I hope you start feeling less homesick soon!!!
Cheers
Paula
Hi Paula
I live in Earlsfield which is sort of in between Wandsworth and Wimbledon. Putney is great! So many Aussies live there now, its a really nice part of London.
I used to live in Shepherds Bush which is Aussie central! Im much happier in SW!

Ahhhh Shepherds Bush - we went to that Aussie pub(I have erased the name of it as it was so feral) there for a grand final once. It was an eye opener I can tell you.
It must be starting to warm up there for you isn't it?? When you get homesick just think about the great things London does have to offer - great summers(not too hot), you can sit on the grass at the park and not get eaten by bullants. The baby clothes options are awesome(I still get friends to send me baby gap stuff home). Of course after leaving you tend to romantacise about it all.
Whereabouts in Brissy are you from?? I am originally a southsider but married a northsider and he ended up getting his way when we bought a house.
Also when is your due date??
talk to you later.
Walkabout! Im glad to say i've never set foot in one of those, but apparently the one in Shepherds Bush or Shebu as they call it is the worst of them.
Im a northside girl, ive moved quite a bit but generally around the Stafford/Everton Hills/Alderley areas.
The weather here is really nice at the moment this afternoon i was lounging on a sunbed on our deck, at times like that its hard to believe your in London!!
Im due on the 9th November, im 12 weeks next week and im really looking forward to the scan so things seem a bit more real - i still cant believe im pregnant! I think ultimately i want to raise my child in Brissie but i will have to see what dp thinks of that!!

Well even though I am not over there at least you have someone completely new to talk to!!
Wow sounds like the weather is great for you!! I can't believe how much people actually talk about the weather in london(probably because a lot of the time it is miserable).
Is your DP English?? My DH's sister and her new English husband arrived here today. She now lives in Manchester. She brought back the cutest Baby Gap clothes for the girls.
Good luck with your scan, it is really very cool when you see the little heartbeat for the first time. It really does make it seem real. Wierd because apart from the scan you would never know there was a little person growing inside of you but really very exciting.
Take care

Hi, I'm Jenna, 26, originally from Bris and live in South Wimbledon. I have been living here for nearly 3 years and can't wait to move home. I don't think that will be happening for another 2/3 years though.
I am due in November too! This will be my second child, my son is 17 months. Which hospital are you using? I am at St Georges in Tooting.
Hope your morning sickness has cleared up
Jenna
Hi Jenna!!
Oh my god you are so close to me!!! And im also going to St Georges and due in November!!! How freaky!! What date are u due?? How have you found the hospital so far? I went for my NT scan when i thought i was 12 weeks but apparently i was only 11 weeks 2 days so they said it was to early to do it. So i have to go back next Saturday.
When are u going back home?
Melissa
Sorry i just read where u said you were going home in a couple of years...I hope one day too to go back to Bris with the bub and DP.
The last week or so the m/s has improved out of sight i still feel queasy but havent :barf: in a while which is good! I also start a new job on Tuesday (I quit my job just before i found out i was pg and have been too sick since to work) working as a Business Analyst for Top Shop and Miss Selfridge, i know tough but someone has to do it!

I had my last baby at St Georges so it can't have been too bad if I am going back I guess?!?! It was ok there, great in the labour ward but I wasn't all that impressed with the post natal care. This time I am going to check out and get home as soon as possible. I would love a homebirth but our walls are so thin, I can hear the lady next door cough so I don't think she would appreciate me screaming in pain.
I am going for my scan on Mon 14 May. I can't wait, it is the most amazing thing to see. I am due somewhere between the 21st-27th November. My baby James 2nd birthday is on the 27th of Nov too, so hopefully new baby steers clear of that date.
Seems like quiting your job worked out nicely with your morning sickness downtime then. I have only felt sick, not puked luckily. So are you going to get discount clothes from Top Shop and Miss Selfridge then? OoooooOOooo, Top Shop Maternity clothes!!!! I can't wait to get a big belly and get some new clothes. It is big at the mo, but just fat - not baby :(
I am not working at the moment. I haven't since Oct 05, god that is ages ago. After this one is born I HAVE to go back and start working. I have had enough of being at home now.
Is your DP excited about the baby?
Is he English? Mine is Aussie. We met about 9 years ago down at our local pub in Kenmore.
Jenna
I thought that the hospital seemed ok but when we went for the scan the woman doing it was really rude to DP so he wasnt that impressed! Hopefully we get someone nicer next time! Did u see that programme on Panorama last night about Midwives undercover? It showed the terrible state of maternity wards in the UK, I had to turn it off!
DP is very excited about the baby which is good, although he was very cautious about it until we had our first scan which is understandable i guess.
I have been in the UK since November 05 and met DP at work soon after so i guess we have moved pretty quickly! He is half English half Italian and I am half Australian half Portuguese which should make our bub an interesting combo!
What did u do before u had your son? Im looking forward to going back to work and the benefits! I have a small bump already so i dont think it will be long before i need to frequent the maternity section!
How long have u been in the UK for? Do u have many friends here?

I did watch that program last night, set a reminder to make sure I didn't miss it. It is so scary, but they are just so busy in ALL the hosptials. I wish we could afford to go private, but can't justify spending £5000!!!
Before baby I was just doing temp office work. Nothing exciting. I really need to study so I can have more of a career one day, not just a job. I am getting older now, can't keep fluffing about!
I moved here in Aug 04 so coming up to 3 years. Most of my friends from pre-baby life have left and gone home, the others live other side of town and it is too hard with a pram. Now I just have mumsie friends really!!! It is really easy to meet other mums once you have the baby. There is mum and baby groups, swimming, signing etc etc. I found it hard when I was preg last time, we were still living in a house share and they were partying all the time. Then we moved down to wimb and I had no idea how to meet other pregnant people. Being pregnant is such a special and amazing time too, you just want to share it with your friends and family back home.
My sister moved over last year which is great, we see here every now and then. She lives in Leyton so not that close, I make her come to me! She is going to stick around until after the baby is born which is going to be such a help.
Grrrrrrrr, james has just pulled all the tissues out of the box. That is my punishment for going on the computer and not paying enough attention to him!!
I had better go. Have a good bank holiday weekend. Let me know if you ever want to catch up and talk baby stuff. My partner works a lot and I am always bored!!
Jenna
Hey London-ites
We have finally found a place, in Marylebone we move in July sooooooo excited! I am looking forward to finding out what's do with kidlets in the area, once I know my way around more we could meet up one day!
Moops hows pregnancy going?
Hey Jenna :)
I have met loads of the Sydney bubhubers so they can vouch for my insanity and that I am real lol
Hiya!!
Congrats on the move Pixie, nice area!
I was feeling great a couple of weeks ago but now I feel rotten! Been suffering with hayfever and headaches, I've had to take a few days off work (I'm sure they would love to fire me!) and I'm unsure whether I should just leave.
I was 16 weeks yesterday :smiliedance: so I am starting to get pretty excited.
A meet up would be great...who else is in?
