Oh, here goes! This is so ridiculously long but I just wanted to get it all out.

My late pregnancy was going brilliantly, I was doing 12 hour days at work, exercising three nights a week and personal training boxing sessions on sat morning. Had all the energy in the world. My first week off work I spent back in the office I had that much energy

Cheeky was due on Monday 17th July and when that day came and went I was seriously frustrated.

By Wednesday I decided on a very brisk walk around the local park - marched up the hills in the freezing July wind and by that evening felt like I was going to get my period. Still didn't really believe anything was going to happen as my OB had seen me Tues and booked me in for an induction because Cheeks was still high and dry. Totally disengaged.

Dh came home after a shocker at work and was so exhausted he went to bed at 8.30pm. I had thought I'd felt "something" and when I went to the bathroom I could see some of the plug. Didn't get too excited cause that could still mean it was days away. Didn't say anything to dh cause he was shagged and went straight to bed.

By 10pm I could feel regular "contractions" every 15 or 20 mins until I called the hospital at midnight. The middie told me I was in early labour and to have a panadol and go to bed (what is with the panadol advice?).

By this stage it was 1am and I tried to go to bed but the second I lay down  . Nup, got up again and sat/lay in the lounge room. Should have guessed something was up (definately not down).

By 4 am contractions were 7-10 mins apart and I called the hospital again. They confirmed I was in labour (oh, really) and to call again when the contractions "take your breath away".

6am rolls around and dh gets up, wanders into the lounge room and says "I thought I heard you on the phone last night". Interestingly he had an appointment with a nurse at our house at 7am for his life insurance policy, so she rocked up an hour later.

Well, by this time contractions were closer to 2 mins apart, 40 secs long and my breath was fairly gone. Called the hospital, they said to come in. Waited for dh to finish up with the life insurance nurse and by 8am I staggered in and said, "we need to go". Strangely the nurse kind of panicked and took of like a shot lol.

This timing set us up nicely for peak hour traffic down paramatta road. Probably one of the low points. Particularly as we were at the front of the line at the lights on Norton St intersection with me in full contraction and the morning commuters walking by. Surely not my most glamorous hour.

We "check in" at the hospital and a middie takes me away while dh talks the admin staff into printing out our birthplan which he has bought with him on a memory stick. Even in pain I still managed to find that amusing!

I get an initial exam - I'm only 3cm and so dissapointed. Mins later dh comes in waving papers around and exclaims in delight "look honey, I got three copies!" like he'd just delivered the baby.

Eat ice chips for a couple of hours, try the shower for an hour or so, hate it, can't stop thinking about how cold I'll feel getting out and figure better make the break while I still can. They try and talk me into the gas but I'm beyond gas.

By 1am I'm in indescribable agony. Contractions are just leaving me totally broken and there's only about 1min between them. I ask for the epidural and an hour later when it takes hold I feel disappointed that I caved in. I thought it was quite weak of me.

They hook me up to some drugs to keep the contractions coming, break my waters at some stage, I try and sleep, have a chat to my mum on the phone and by 5pm I'm 10cm and Cheeky is still totally uninterested.

My OB comes in for a visit and says bub isn't coming down yet but he has a parent/teacher interview to go to so we'd wait and see if she came down mmmm  okaaay.

Well, we gave her plenty of opportunity but by 8pm she still hadn't budged. Then we are informed that she's posterior and attempting to come out chin first rather than crown first so forceps are out, we're going in for a c/s. Guess that would explain the agonising back pain hey...didn't feel so bad about the epi

In the theatre dh is talking me through walking on the beach on our honeymoon to drown out the sounds of my ob saying "mind the gall bladder" and "don't cut through the muscle" Then we hear him say, I can see your baby, everything looks really good.

At 8.42 our little girl was born with dh announcing to me that "it's not a boy" (history of boys in his family) and then while they wrap her up I hear him saying over and over how beautiful and perfect she is and then he brings her over, and she is beautiful and perfect.

Great story. So well written. Good to know you realised that you weren't being 'weak' by getting the epi.

I was also giggling at the birth plan fiasco. i could just imagine your proud DP after delivering them from his memory stick.

Congrats on Cheeky's safe arrival!!:smiliedance:
