I'm wanting to have laser eye surgery and they recommend valium during the procedure so you don't freak out about a laser burning through your eyeball:eek: Anyone know how long you can't bf for after this?
I'm really wanting to have this done so I am not a specky :geek: anymore!

Ok firstly  I did not realise we had a new smilie!!!

Ummmm is that the only medication they give you???? Do they not sedate you at all?????

Maybe ring the ABA and ask what medication they would recommend in this situation?

If it was me, to be honest, I'd wait and get it done in a year or so... and this is from someone who has worn glasses for the last 15 years.

Ha ha, I know I just had to use it!
Yeah, apparently that's all they give you. The receptionist said "Why don't you wait?" as well but after getting the courage now I don't want to quit iykwim?

As far as I am aware its not a good idea to have it done while feeding. The reasons are: sometimes your prescription can be affected by the hormones (ie it might change when you stop feeding) and that if you get any complications teh drops you have to take mean you will have to stop feeding for a few weeks.

This was (unfortunately) enough reason for me to wait.

Thanks for your responses. I went yesterday and had a consultation and my prescription has changed a lot since breastfeeding so I will be waiting

Mummy G - I can't help you with the valium and breastfeeding issue but I can tell you the valium is all that is needed as I had it done and it is a bit freaky but you don't feel a thing. I even got a video of mine (don't know if this is the usual though as mine was a rare case and they had specialists from all over Australia there watching).
