I've been using Tots Bots with my DD since birth and just started to use Baby Beehinds hemp nappies a few times. Yesterday we went out and put her on the hemp one, we changed her every 2 hours (immediately after she wees if we're at home) and found she has rash on her inner thighs and bum. This has never happened before so I'm not sure it's because of the hemp nappies? Can she be allergic to hemp? I feel so bad because I thought hemp was supposed to be good to her :(
The first time we used hemp she didn't have rash and I didn't change her until 3 and a half hours later. How come she has rash this time? Anyway, I think it's nappy rash...it's red, patchy and there're tiny white bumps as well (gosh i don't know how to describe it) Is it nappy rash? Or eczema?

The white bits make it sound like it could be thrush.
Daktozin cream is very effective for both protecting and treating the affected area.
If it is thrush, you'll need to be extra thorough in how you wash the nappies.

hmm... it doesn't look like thrush and I have a closer look at it and think it's more like eczema. DD has mild eczema on her arms, cheeks and legs which always comes and goes. I just wasn't thinking of eczema because I didn't know if it can happen on this area. I change her nappies more often, keep the area dry and put sorbolean cream on it. Hope this will get better...it just looks a little worse than her arms and legs dunno why.
Haven't experienced that, I'm afraid. I've used hemp for a long time now and never seen a rash. If you want to keep her skin totally dry, buy a metre of polar fleece and cut it up for liners. Their skin stays COMPLETELY dry! It's absolutely amazing! And really cheap LOL.
Could it be a reaction to detergent build up? Because hemp is so absorbant, it may need an extra rinse, adding vinegar or cutting back on detergent to get rid of any detergent residue.
Hope it clears up soon.

Just found out DD doesn't have rash but it turns out to be Eczema! The weather has been sticky hot so I guess that aggrevates her eczema. Its just that I used hemp nappies around the same time as the eczema happened so I wasn't sure if it's because of hemp.
JanetF, is polar fleece eczema friendly? I found that polar fleece sold at Lincraft is either 100% polyester or half cotton, isn't polyester bad to bubs' skin?

I suffer from Eczema, and I find artificial fibres really aggravate it, personally.
I'd hestitate to use polar fleece as a liner if there is eczema in the nappy area.
You might be interested in looking at or trying muslin (100% cotton) liners, I have heard good things about them.

I would really encourage you to do an extra rinse after the wash. I had a rashy problem when DS was about 5 months old, and solved it not by using disposables or loads of creams, but by adding an extra rinse and using about half the detergent the packets recommend.
