I put on 30 kilos with previous pregnancies, and could not budge a single kilo until I stopped breastfeeding - which in my case was after 3 years each time.
Once I stopped breastfeeding, the weight pretty much fell off.

Hi,
I gained about 20kg with O and then lost about 15kg within a week of his birth. But while BF the weight remained and then to my horror I gained 5kg when I stopped BF  WHAT THE????????
Any way O is now 17 months and Im still fighting the bulge, I too feel rather depressed about it but what can you do just keep perservering :)
This time of year really is crappy for losing weight anyway LOL :D

Its the old saying What you put in you have to burn off. Its a calorie thing. I know its annoying to have to count those blasted little calorie or Kjs but that is the only thing that will work. Weight watches have simplified it to the points system but it all adds up to hard work. I actually lost weight easier( I only put on 6kg though) while Breastfeeding my children but I kept eating like a horse when they weaned so I packed it on again:( Drinking lots and lots of water is supposed to help:)
Personally I eat what I like then exercise, but that is not for everyone.:D

I put on over 40kgs and I am breastfeeding so I just really watch what I eat. I don't have the time and patience to be able to count calories or kj's like Goosie said (but I am sure this is a great way to loose the weight), I just avoid eating too many carbs and really restrict the junk food and softdrinks. My DS is now 10 months old and I only have 7kgs to go!
Hang in there and don't give up the breast just to loose the weight (I too had considered this option, but alot of people gave me support to keep bf and I am glad they did)!
As a few others have said sometimes you can gain the weight after you finish breastfeeding not loose the weight so if that was the case for me I would be absolutely devestated to give up breastfeeding because I couldn't shift the weight and then discover that I actually was gaining weight!

I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight with DD1 almost immediately but when I stopped bf-ing her I put on 12-15 kgs.
With DD2 I put on about 15 -20 kgs while pg but lost about 10kgs within a couple of weeks, while I was bf-ing.
I am still 20kgs heavier than I would like to be but I put on all my weight after I stopped bf so when I get motivated I will get into some good exercise...... hhhmmmm one day!!
breastfeeding uses the equivalent amount of calories as doing a 10km run, so I don't think stopping will help you lose the weight. I think all you can do atm is to try a balanced diet and exercise. I was told not to have more than 120gm of meat a day, and the rest of my meal should mostly be fruit and veggies. Don't forget 30mins exercise a day (walking is the best)

I think the whole "you lose weight while/after bf" is not true at all. I wasnt losing any weight at all (I put on 20ks whilst preg but was already overweight when fell pre) and it wasnt until I started watching what I was eating that the weight started to come off.
And unfortunatley I agree with Goosie22 - its energy in and energy out. If you eat more then your burn then of course the weight stays on or you put more on. I exercise 1 hour a day (7 days) and cut back on carbs and just fill up on fruit and veg and slowly but surely the weight is coming off and my breast milk hasnt been affected.
For those lucky people that do lose the weight purely because they are bf or have finished then thats great but it didnt happen for me.

I put on 25kgs during pregnancy and after Aj was born I went on a strict but enough food diet! I lost all 25kgs within 4 and a half months. It was crazy! I cut out most carbs (Anything white eg flour) and I only ate a tiny amount of fats and barley any sugar!
During the day i ate
Breakfast- I had a meal replacement shake coz Im not good with brekky and usually skip it!
Morning tea- Some fruit
Lunch- Chicken or tuna salad
Arfternoon tea- Some more fruit
Dinner- A palm size piece of meat and alot of vegies (especially greens)
Dessert- Low card ice cream with diet jelly
I ok-ed this with my GP and he said it was fine! I drank NO SUGAR soft drink and at least 3L of water a day!

Can't help, I had the opposite problem, as it seems with many of the women... I lost weight right after birth, and I could eat ANYTHING while breastfeeding, I could go back for seconds or thirds  it's only as my DD has been feeding less during the day I've put weight on. I'm sure a sensible eating plan could be acheived that still meets your needs and provides the right nutrients while you breastfeed, exercise would play a very important role too. Exercise is always more fun with a buddy so if you have a friend who wants to get some fresh air you could share evening walks and things like that :)
